The Lost Element: Chaos Rises

A year has passed since the defeat of Nightmare Moon. Things have returned to normal for James and his friends, and Nightmare Moon is enjoying her position as the Princess of Dreams. However, darkness is returning, and James will have to take up the sword while Nightmare Moon comes under fire from the public. How will either of them survive when chaos makes a mess of the world of Equestria, threatening to bridge the gap between it and Earth permanently?

This is a non-canon fan continuation of The Lost Element by Humanity. I recommend reading that first since it's the best story on this site and this story doesn't make as much sense if you don't know what happens in the original story.

The Usual

I woke up in the bed I shared with Fluttershy, as usual.

I got up, showered, got dressed, and woke up Scootaloo, as usual.

I checked the calendar. This day was going to be the usual.

I decided to wear Pinkie's colours, since today could use a bit of unpredictability if it was going to be just like it always was.

I headed into the kitchen, and saw my wonderful marefriend already getting started on breakfast.

I looked around, not seeing a certain little orange pegasus. I sighed, let loose a muffled chuckle, and headed into her room.

As usual, she tried to sneak in some more sleep. "Not today!" I thought out loud.

I saw the little daredevil sleeping serenly, just like usual.

I whispered "Scootaloo!" and gave her a little shake.

She awoke and, as usual, gave me her best begging face and said "Just five more minutes! Please?"

I shook my head and replied "Aww, come one, little sis! You know you'll be late for school!"

She gave a small grumble and got up, as usual.

I started to get the feeling this would be a very uneventful day if everything was going to be as usual.

I walked back into the kitchen where Fluttershy was preparing breakfast. I gave her a bright smile, which she pleasantly returned. I smelled omelets frying in the pan on the stove. I took a deep breath. "It smells wonderful, honey!" She gave me a modest but incredibly adorable "thank you" face.

I made sure Scootaloo was out of bed and walked over to the table. I picked up my PSP and looked through my music library. I decided to play some Mozart, despite the fact it was so... usual. Why is that word stuck in my head? Everything is usual, almost as if my brain wanted me to savour the feeling. "Whatever." I thought to myself. Worrying yourself over literally nothing is just plain stupid.

As music started spilling out from the speakers, I set out three plates, three glasses, and three sets of cutlery. Scootaloo took her seat, as I did too. Fluttershy came over with the pan and put an omelet on each plate. She then came back with a jug of water and a plate with various other pieces of food. She poured us glasses of water and and gave us each a slice of bacon, some strawberries, and a hash brown.

We each gobbled our food down quickly. I got ready to take Scootaloo to school. As we walked, we met up with Applebloom and Sweetie Belle. We arrived at school, and said our goodbyes. I walked back towards the cottage.

Just before I reached town center, I heard a massive "bang!" I looked around, panicked that something malevolent had arrived. The fact that everything was normal and none of the ponies reacted just made me more worried...
