Sitting on a Street Corner

Pinkie Pie skipped through Ponyville one spring morning.

"Hi, Rose!" Pinkie called to her neighbor, as the other mare looked up from watering her flowers. Waving, Rose cheerfully replied,"Hi, Pinkie."

Pinkie's grin only grew as she continued on her way, seeing another familiar face along the road.

"Watcha reading, Comet Tail?" She asked of a yellow unicorn on the side of the road. Comet Tail looked up from his book.

"It's a fantasy about a mare and a stallion who are able to walk among the stars," he replied. "You should read it!"

"Maybe I will!" Pinkie answered with a grin. "It sure sounds interesting!"

Today is a perfect day!" She sang. When the sun is shining, and the birds are chirping, and everypony is happyyyy-" Pinkie suddenly gasped and cut her song short. She was staring at Lucky Clover, a friend of hers, who was sitting on the side of the road with a sad look on his face.

"Oh no!" Pinkie exclaimed, skipping over. "Lucky Clover, what's wrong?" Lucky Clover looked up at her and sighed.

"Hi, Pinkie. You don't need to worry about anything-"

"But I do need to worry," Pinkie interrupted. "You're my friend, and I can't let a friend sit here with a sad look on his face!" Pinkie plopped down next to Lucky Clover. "So, can you tell me what's wrong?" Lucky Clover stared at her for a full minute in silence, probably thinking. Pinkie fought the urge to bounce around in impatience. She had a feeling that wouldn't be helpful.

"Alright," he said at last. "Wild Fire and I broke up."

"Oh no!" Pinkie exclaimed sympathetically. "She dumped you, huh?"

"Actually, I dumped her," Lucky Clover responded, looking down. "I guess I shouldn't be sad if I was the one that broke it off, but we were going so well... and then it just ended. We argued all the time, and we rarely agreed on anything. I just didn't enjoy her company. But I'm still sad about it." Lucky Clover sighed again. Pinkie wrapped her hooves around him in a friendly hug.

"You don't have control over your emotions, Lucky, you just feel sad! And that's nothing to be ashamed of," She told him. "But if you feel sad, it's my job to help you feel better!" Lucky Clover shook his head.

"I'm sorry, Pinkie, but I don't think a party would work." Lucky stared at his hooves. Pinkie tapped her chin thoughtfully.

"I'll think of something, I promise! See you later!" Pinkie stood up and with a final wave, left.

"And so I reallllly need your help, Rarity! I don't know how to cheer Lucky Clover up!" Pinkie leaned over her friend's mannequin, explaining the problem. Rarity looked up from the dress she was inspecting and over at Pinkie.

"Well, darling, I don't know how to help him- wait! Lucky Clover is sad because he broke up with Wildfire, right?"

"Yupperoonie!" Pinkie chirped, planting her front hooves on the floor. Rarity pulled her red glasses down over her eyes.

"Then we'll send him on a blind date!" She declared. Pinkie giggled.

"Do we tie a blindfold around his eyes?" Pinkie asked. Rarity smiled and shook her head.

"No, Pinkie. A blind date Is when two ponies go on a date with each other, without knowing before hoof who they are going out with," Rarity explained. "Now, we just need to find a mare..." Rarity trailed off and stared straight at Pinkie.

"Actually, Pinkie, I think you had best leave the planning to me," she decided suddenly. Pinkie was confused.

"Why, Rarity?" She asked. Rarity looked at one of her dresses.

"Well, because, you'll be doing, other things that night," Rarity told her. Pinkie poked at a role of fabric.

"But you don't even know when the date is," she pointed out. "And how do you know what I'll be doing every night?" Pinkie watched Rarity, who was looking a little pressured.

"Pinkie, let me set you on a blind date too!" Rarity exclaimed. "Please!"

"Alright," Pinkie agreed amiably.

"You've never once shown any interest in dating," Rarity continued. "Please let me- wait, what?"

"If you want me to go on a blind date, I'll go," Pinkie repeated. With a grin, Rarity rushed up and hugged Pinkie.

"Oh, Pinkie! Thank you!"

As soon as the hug was over, Pinkie watched Rarity canter over to the lavender calendar on her wall.

"Now, I think I'll plan it, maybe a week from Friday," she murmured. "At the bowling alley, maybe?" Rarity glanced over at Pinkie. "Oh, you can go now, dear. This is a blind date, after all." She giggled and went back to looking at the calendar. Pinkie shrugged and skipped out of Carousel Boutique.

"See you later, Rarity!" She yelled back. A song suddenly popped into her head.

"We're going to get ready! We're going to get ready! Blind date! Can't wait! Oh, we're gonna help my friend, and help him great! Blind date! Blind date...

Pinkie tried not to fidget as Rarity fussed over her hair.

"Rarity, I'm only going to the bowling alley," she whined. "I don't have to get all dressed up!"

"It's still a date," Rarity reminded her, twisting Pinkie's hair up into a ponytail. "You want to look nice. Now, have I told you what lane you'll be in?"

"Lane fourteen," Pinkie promptly responded. "And you're paying for pizza!" Rarity sighed.

"Pinkie, please don't order too much."

"I won't!" Pinkie replied. "Hey, Rarity, are you finished with my hair yet?"

"Almost." Pinkie watched the mirror as Rarity framed Pinkie's face with her mane, then did the rest loosely back with several bobby pins. "There. Now, I insist you wear a nice skirt."

"Alright, alright," Pinkie said cheerfully. "What do you have?" Rarity pulled up a blue skirt with pale yellow trimming.

"This will do," she decided. "Now, hurry up and put it on. You cannot be late!"

Pinkie put the skirt on, then followed Rarity out of Carousel Boutique.

"So, what's he like?" Pinkie asked. "The stallion I'm meeting."

"Oh, it's somepony you know," Rarity replied with a vague smile. Pinkie laughed.

"Well, duh! Of course I know him! I know everypony! Is he a unicorn? Is his hair pink? Is he a regular customer at Sugarcube Corner?" Pinkie buzzed with questions.

"He's an Earth Pony, dear. No, his mane is not pink, and he probably is. Oh look, here we are." Rarity stopped them in front of the Bowling Alley. "Have a good time, Pinkie! Tell me all about it when you're done!"

"Of course, Rarity! See ya later!" Pinkie waved before entering the alley. It wasn't very crowded. Allie Way stood next to a rack of bowling balls. Pinkie skipped over.

"Hi Allie Way! I'm reserved for Lane Fourteen," Pinkie told her cheerfully. Allie smiled and nodded.

"Oh yes, Pinkie! Rarity told me! Why don't you get a bowling ball and head over?"

"Okie dokie lokie!" Pinkie picked out a blue bowling ball and carried it over to Lane Fourteen. The only one in the are was Lucky Clover.

"Hi, Lucky Clover!" Pinkie exclaimed. "Is your blind date here too? Rarity set me up, and now I'm waiting for whoever is my date!" Lucky Clover smiled.

"So, you'll be in Lane Thirteen?" He asked. Pinkie shook her head.

"No, I'm in Lane Fourteen," She clarified. Lucky Clover's smile barely wavered.

"I guess you're my date then," he replied. "I'm Lane Fourteen, too." Pinkie gasped.

"So this is why Rarity didn't want me helping plan! I was going to be on the date!" She exclaimed. "Well, ready to play, Lucky Clover?"

"Yeah," he replied. "Mares first." Pinkie grinned.

"Thanks!" She picked up her bowling ball and hurled it down the lane. Eight of the ten pins were knocked over.

"Nice," Lucky Clover commented. "By the way, I like your mane. It's pretty."

"Thanks, Lucky," Pinkie replied, inwardly surprised as she felt heat rising to her cheeks. She raised her hoof and her bowling ball.

"I mean," Lucky Clover continued, "that I don't usually like when mares get beauty stuff like that. They don't need it to be beautiful. But on you, a new manestyle looks natural."

"Thanks, Lucky," Pinkie said again, with a smile. She felt more heat rise. He hadn't just called her beautiful, had he?

She released the bowling ball from an unsteady hoof. It wobbled down the lane and only knocked one pin over.

"Your turn," she told him, stepping to the side. Lucky Clover picked up his bowling ball and walked up to the edge of the lane.

"Sorry," he said quickly when they accidentally brushed flanks. The heat in Pinkie's cheeks didn't leave.

"It's alright," she replied honestly. She watched as Lucky Clover rolled her bowling ball down the lane. All ten pins were knocked over.

"You're pretty lucky, huh?" Pinkie joked. Lucky Clover laughed.

"Yeah, I guess I am."

An hour later, the date was almost over. Lucky Clover had beaten Pinkie by only two points, and the pair was now finishing their pizza.

"I have to admit, when Rarity convinced me to go on a blind date, I didn't really think it would cheer me up," Lucky Clover confessed. "But this was really fun, Pinkie."

"It sure was!" Pinkie agreed happily, taking a bite out of her pizza.

"Maybe... maybe we can do it again sometime?" Lucky Clover ventured. Pinkie stopped chewing and swallowed.

"I'd love to!" She replied. "I really enjoy your company!"

"Me too." Lucky Clover smiled. Pinkie smiled back.

When the pizza was finished, Pinkie said goodbye to Lucky Clover and went her own way.

"Rarity!" She called when she reached Carousel Boutique. "Rarity!"

"Pinkie?" Rarity opened her door. "How was it, darling?"

"It cheered him up!" Pinkie responded happily. Rarity narrowed her eyes with a knowing smile.

"You had a good time too, didn't you?" She asked. Pinkie blushed.

"Aha!" Rarity cried. "See? I am good at this stuff! Now come inside and tell me every single.detail!" She ushered Pinkie inside.

"At first, we were confused..." Rarity listened intently as Pinkie recounted her first date. Quite successful, for a blind one.
