The HighwayMare
Deciding the Winter Play
Load Full Story"So girls, we need to figure out what play we are doing for this year's Heart's Warming Eve," Twilight remarked, "any ideas?"
"I say we do the same play as we did last year. I mean, come on, I looked sweet in my costume," Rainbow Dash proclaimed.
"I looked sweet too! Literally!" Pinkie giggled and stuck her tongue out in joy.
"I believe the costumes I made for that play were simply fabulous," Rarity threw in.
"W-what if we re-enact a story...?" Fluttershy said, in her quiet voice as usual.
Twilight opened one of her story books and read. "Hmm... why don't you look Fluttershy. Since it was your idea." She levitated the book over to Fluttershy with her magic and set it down on her lap. Fluttershy looked through the story book until she came along poem that caught her eye. She read the first stanza. "What about the highway man?" She questioned.
Twilight's ears perked, "The highway man?" She levitated the book back to herself. "I suppose it could work." She smiled. "Alright, the highway man it is. And we shall call it... Hmm..."
"Oh! Oh! PICK ME!" Pinkie jumped up and down with a name in her head.
"Yes Pinkie?"
"How about the highway mare?"
"Hm... Ok... the highwaymare.... it's settled." Twilight looked at the characters in the book. "Ok... Spike, you can be the highway man, Rarity can be the Landlord's daughter... Pinkie can be king George... Apple Jack can be Tim the ostler... Rainbow and Fluttershy... you guys can be the guards. Rainbow can be the main guard... and I'll be the narrator."
"Wait... doesn't there need to a mare the highway man rides for it to be called the highway mare?" Apple Jack remarked.
"Well-"
"Perhaps I can be of assistance?" Discord suddenly appeared in the room in the middle of everypony.
"How could you help, Discord?" Twilight tensed at the sound of his voice.
"Well, perhaps I could be the narrator and you can be Spike's horse. I have narrated some pretty famous plays back when I was younger."
"Wait, wait, wait... If I'm the highway man... And its called the highway mare... But... I'm not a mare! Nor a pony! I'm a boy dragon!"
Twilight smirked and winked, "It just fits..." She tried to get off the topic. She looked back at Discord. "Fine, I'll be the horse, and you can be the narrator. But you better not mess this up..."
"I certainly won't... Do you really not trust me that much?" Twilight glared at him.
"Yeah, like we were suppose to trust you like we did when Tirek was around!" Rainbow Dash shouted.
Fluttershy flew up next to Discord. He looked away embarrassed of his mistake with Tirek. "Enough!" Fluttershy shouted. She wrapped her arms around Discord's neck and hugged him while talking, "It was one time! Everypony makes mistakes!"
Rainbow nodded and rolled her eyes, "And the time before Tirek, and the time before that-" Fluttershy glared at her nearly giving her "The Stare." She was silent from then on.
"Now then, lets consider costumes..." Twilight tried to get off the topic of arguing about Discord. "Rarity, we need three red coat costumes, like this." She showed Rarity a picture of one of King George's men. "King George of course needs a king costume, I need a horse harness, no flash, no bling-bling. Just a plain harness with a few details here and there. The landlord's daughter needs a non-sparkly, but detailed dress and slippers. And finally, the Highway man needs a French hat, a mustache, and a medieval costume."
"I get to wear a mustache!?" Spikes eyes sparkled. Twilight nodded. Rarity wrote everything down on a little notecard in fine print.
"What about... Me?" Discord questioned.
"And uh... Give Discord a medieval costume too... Different than Spike's though."
Rarity wrote everything down on the paper, "got it."
"Alright everyone, meet here in a week, right before the play... And remember to practice your parts." Everyone nodded and walked off except Fluttershy and Discord. They stayed.
"T-thanks... for standing up for me Fluttershy... But... I-I didn't deserv-" Discord was interupted when Fluttershy kissed him on the cheek. Discord's eyes widened as he blushed deeply.
"No need to thank me, that's what friends are for..." She smiled and blushed as she walked out of the building.
