"Pinkamena!!!", a very monotone voice yelled.
A weary pink pony sits up from her bed and looks around. She looks for her sisters in the room but see's that they're not in
their beds. She looks out the window and the sun beams in her eyes. Her mouth is dry and her tongue feels like rubber and she looks away from the window. The pony runs her hoof through her tangled pink mane, and looks herself over until she see's the mark on her flank. A burst of excitement breaks her weary state and she jumps up and down on her bed and runs out of her room. She rushes through the bathroom to brush her teeth and splash water on he face. She continues down the stairs and through her living room and into the kitchen where her family was.
The mother of the pink pony was setting food on the kitchen table, while her dad was sitting on the table smoking through his pipe. Her two sisters were sitting by each other on one side of the table waiting for their mother to finish setting the table. She sits on the opposite side of her sisters and with a huge smile says, "Good morning, everypony!!!." She says with an excited high pitch voice that is annoying, but at the same time warming. Everypony gives a light nod and says in sync, "Good morning Pinkie."
Today was a very special day for Pinkie, today was her cutesinera. She was excited to throw her own party again since the day she had gotten her cutie mark. It was quite an exciting day for her. She remembered the smiles she was able to plaster on her family, who never showed enthusiasm for anything most of the time. Pinkie had also remembered the feeling that she had before her epiphany when she had seen the bright rainbow that had filled the sky. The colors the rainbow had brightened her day, both literary and figuratively.
She now thinks about her life with that mark, it represented her, who she was, and what her destiny is. Now that she has a chance to look over the events of the past few days she now see's how distant she has become from her family, the only people she's ever known in her life. It was bad enough that her coat was quite the opposite of the rest of her family who were different shades of gray. She had always felt that something was missing from her life, she couldn't quite put it into words but now that she had found it she was able to articulate it.
"THE ROCKS!!!" Pinkie says loudly, excited from her new revelation.
She see's that the room is looking at her strangely, one of her sister does a good job at suppressing her giggles. Pinkie could notice this while noticing that her other sister was shaking her head and she could hear her dad mumble something while he was reading he stared at the newspaper.
"What was that dear?", her mother says with puzzled look on her face.
"Oh, nothing." She says with a sheepish smile.
"Spaz" Her older sister said, who had been shaking her head in disappointment still.
No one had heard her but Pinkie.
She looked down as food was being served out. The aroma of wheat pancakes had made its way to Pinkie's nose. Everypony starts to eat and all is quite again. The young pony goes back to her deep thought. The rocks. He whole family were all rock farmers. Her sisters had gotten their cutie mark when they were young. Pinkie had taken the longest to get her mark and now that she thought about it, it was still kind of an enigma. Three balloon's, she was so wrapped up in all the excitement that she didn't really think about her mark. Pinkie knew the feeling though, and that had trumped any feeling of confusion.
It was hours after breakfast, and Pinkie and her sisters were doing there daily chores. However she wasn't focused on them she was more focused on her cutesinera. She never did pay attention to the days chores much at all in most days. It wasn't that she didn't care, but she found farming rocks to be kind of boring. She always found a way to distract her mind from the day to day motions of her life; and on this day, it wasn't going to be hard to do that.
All she thought about was her party, all her close friends would be there and she would have fun smiling with them, and playing games with them, and laughing with them, and...
"AHEM!!!"
Pinkie's dad had been trying to get her attention for a while, her sisters had finished all the chores while Pinkie was standing out here for hours kicking around the same rock. Pinkie looks up at her dad sheepishly and see's that the sun has started setting.
"Sorry dad I guess I zoned out for a second." She said rubbing the back of her head with her front hoof.
Her dad gives her the same stoic look as always. "Dinner is almost ready Pinkamena, come inside and wash up"
She looks at her dad for a couple seconds, maybe just to see if her dad would smile or give some sort of reaction that was different from his usual expression.
Disappointed, she answers her father. "Sure thing dad." She looks down at the ground and walks to the house.
She had wondered what it would take to recapture that moment when she saw her dad burst with glee and joy when she threw her surprise party. She remembered all the smiles she saw that she had never seen before up until that moment. For a couple days every time she closed her eyes, even blinked, she could see their happy faces. Wanting to recapture the moment she had tried getting her family to smile but all of her attempts where
