Chapter 1: The Decision

It was just another average day in the wonderful town of Ponyville. The Pegasi were clearing all the clouds in the sky. Everypony was enjoying the delicious treats at Sugar Cube Corner. There was something different about today.

Twilight Sparkle was researching some new spells in one of the books she found around the library. Everything was going fine until there was a huge "crash' coming from the kitchen. Rushing to the source of the noise she sees something very shocking. Spike was laying on the floor surrounded by shards of what seems to be broken glass plates. The pieces of glass were surrounded in Twilight's magic aura and levitated away, making a path from her to the dragon. She rushed over to his side and started softly nudging his arms as she said "Spike? Spike, are you okay?"

Just then, Spike's eyes slowly started opening as he sat up. "Yeah, I'm ok," he said rubbing the back of his head.

With a sigh of relief, Twilight calmed down a little bit before continuing. "Spike, what in Equestria happened in here?"

"Well, you seemed so focused on that book you were reading I decided to make you some lunch so you didn't have to get up. Then when I reached for the plates I must have fallen asleep and fell."

Twilight now had a warm smile upon her face as she wrapped her hooves around the dragon in a hug. "I'm so glad that you're okay Spike. And thank you for trying to make me some lunch, but you should really get some more sleep."

"What? No way Twi. I have to be here for you when you need me for something." Spike stood in a very proud and goofy looking victory-like pose. As Spike walked out of the room to fetch the broom and dustpan, Twilight couldn't help but feel a little worried about Spike's well being.

For a few days now, Twilight has noticed that Spike has been overworking himself lately. "I have to think of a way to get Spike to relax, but still be able to do his work." Twilight thought to herself as she paced around the center of the library. When all of a sudden, what she believed was a perfect idea, just popped into her head. "Spike, can you come here for a second? I need to talk to you." Twilight yelled to the dragon that was out of her sight. In a flash, Spike dashed down the stairs and stopped right in front of Twilight.

"Is this about the paint in your shampoo?" Spike asked in a worried tone.

Twilight raised an eyebrow in suspicion "You put what in my-"

"Nothing!" Spike quickly said cutting her off before she could finish what she was going to say.

"Anyways," Twilight continued. "I was thinking that you have been cooped up in the library for a while," she said.

"And?" Spike said with an impatient tone to his voice.

"And, I was thinking that you should be out in Ponyville more often. You know, meet some new ponies, make some friends of your own".

"I don't like where this is going." Spike quietly muttered under his breath. Lucky for him it was quiet enough so that Twilight couldn't hear him complain.

"So I'm sending you to school with all the other kids!" She said excitedly and giving a little squee.

While Spike, on the other hand, was just standing there like a statue with a frozen shocked expression on his face as Twilight bounced around him.

After a few minutes of silence, Spike regained consciousness and switched from a look of total shock to one that said: "Are you serious?!"

"But Twilight I can't go to school," said Spike.

"Oh really, well why not?" Twilight said with a little confusion in her voice.

Spike didn't need to think of what he was going to say. "Well first off I'll be the only dragon in a school full of ponies. Don't you think that will be a little, weird?" he asked.

Twilight gave a small chuckle before responding "I know you might look different from them, but you're just like a pony on the inside. You'll fit in just fine once they get to know you.". Spike facepalmed himself in a motion of anger.

"Just like a mother," Spike thought to himself. "Always prepared for what I have to say. Most of the time."

"I also don't know anypony there and you know I get a little nervous when it comes to meeting new ponies," Spike said shivering a little bit at the end of his sentence.

Twilight just rolled her eyes at Spikes comment. "Oh come on Spike don't be silly. Applebloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle go there and you know them."

Before Twilight could continue, Spike quickly interjected. "Yeah I know, but I don't really know them that well. After all we never really hung out or just talked. I mean the last time I talked to them was to let them know that you girls weren't coming to their play. Oh, and by the way, they were a little upset about that."

Twilight was having trouble thinking, but after a few seconds, she had thought up the perfect comeback. "This will be perfect for you to get to know them," Twilight said with a warming smile. Spike knew that when it comes to Twilight and school she just won't stop until she wins. Spike sighed and decided that it was time for him to admit defeat.

"Fine Twilight if it means that much to you, then I'll go to school." Twilight jumped with glee and hugged him, which caused the young dragon to flinch before returning the hug.

Twilight looked out the window and noticed that the sun was already going down. "You better get to bed Spike, your first day of school starts tomorrow." Spike just gave her a slight nod before heading up the stairs.

Once he was in their bedroom, he immediately flopped onto his bed and closed his eyes. Before Spike fell asleep he thought of what it would be like going to school and making new friends. He then just forgot that thought telling himself "I'll find out soon." After a couple of minutes, Spike finally started to fall asleep. As he was about to enter a peaceful world full of wonders known as his dreams he thought of one more thing. "This will probably be the last one I'll ever have."
