The Song of the Stars

"One small voice
can teach the world a song
Start with one small voice..."
"TILL ANOTHER JOINS ALONG!"
"Umm, Twilight, I think that's a little over the top. Try toning it down just a touch?"
"Sure, Sweetie Belle."
Sweetie Belle and Nyx were giving Twilight singing lessons. The two had a day off from running the Cutie Mark Crusaders Centre, and neither was willing to spend all day, burning daylight.
Twilight was having a little trouble with her volume control, though.
"Mom, are you alright? You've groaned a total of four times in the past five minutes, just about how you're hungry," remarked Nyx. Her purple mane came loose as she magically used the scrunchie to tie her mother's mane.
"I'm fine. I'm just really hungry!" Admitted Twilight.
"Well, Dad always said to sing on an empty stomach, though I can't possibly fathom why. Let's get some lunch!" Declared Sweetie Belle.
The trio left Sweetie Belle's studio and they went for lunch at Sugarcube Corner, which was more a cafe than a bakery now.
Pumpkin Cake, now a young mare, served them. "Hello, Princess, Nyx, Sweetie Belle, what can I get you?"
"No need to call me Princess, Pumpkin. I've known your parents long enough for that. As for the order, can you get Nyx and myself each a bowl of celery soup?" Said Twilight warmly.
"And a dandelion sandwich?" Asked Nyx brightly.
"Yes, and a dandelion sandwich for Nyx," chuckled Twilight. "Sweetie Belle, what would you like?"
"Not much. I guess I'll get a small lettuce-and-cheese sandwich, please," said the young rockstar.
"Gotcha!" Said Pumpkin, and ran into the kitchen. She returned a few minutes later with all the ordered food.
Twilight paid her very generously, at which Pumpkin blushed. "Thank you, Princess," she said, shying away.
The trio then returned to their lunch.
Twilight fished out every bit of celery in her soup, then stole a piece of Nyx's sandwich and dunked it in. She magically tossed it into her mouth, then sloppily drank the remaining soup.
Nyx picked up the rest of her sandwich and wondered where it went. "Did I eat this already?"
Twilight burped noisily, and everyone there looked at her. "Excuse me!" Giggled the flatulent princess.
"Mom, I'm taking you to the doctor's place," Nyx declared a few minutes later when Twilight threw up into her cup.
"Well, I'mma burn me some sunlight," sighed Sweetie Belle.
"But you have to understand! My wife is in there! She's a princess! And my awesome, totally-not-scary daughter's in there!"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Sentry, but you'll have to wait. You're covered in mud, and we don't want to spread any diseases."
Flash Sentry sat down with a thump on the waiting room chair, feeling defeated. Sweetie Belle had encountered him in town and told him that Nyx had teleported Twilight and herself to Ponyville Hospital.
He'd ran through town, but when he realized that dodging ponies was going to be too slow, he flew~right into Applejack's orchard.
Thankfully, there was no damage done to either pony or tree.
By the time Flash had gotten to the hospital, he was covered in mud, foliage and scraps of sour apples. Then, the mare at the window wouldn't even let him see his beloved wife and daughter? Geez.
Flash Sentry sat back and thought of the worse possible cases.
1, Twilight had cancer and Flash and Nyx would be loners without the amazing purple alicorn;
2, she had two days or less to go;
3, she had broken something and was going to be stationary for the next year;
4, she was permanently hospitalized.
Flash assumed the first two were the worse, the third was not too bad, and the last was pretty bad.
Suddenly, Twilight and Nyx came out of one of the rooms. Nyx was vibrating, with a grim look on her face.
"Twi? Nyxie? What happened? Are you going to die?!?! DON'T LEAVE ME!" Asked Flash, ending with a massive, pleading pout on his face.
"Nope. Try again. Nyx, I forbade you to tell your father before I tell you that you can," grinned Twilight.
"Mmm," responded Nyx.
"Uh, are you perfectly fine?"
'Nope. Nyx, tell him."
"DAD MOM'S HAVING A BABY AND I'M GONNA BE A BIG SISTER AND I'M SO EXCITED AND..."Nyx bounced off, spewing out random noises of happiness as she did so.
At the same time, Flash Sentry's eyes nearly popped out.
Nyx was a teenager. She was already really independent.
But a new-born filly or foal? Oh no.
Flash Sentry's eyes went back to normal, then he fainted on the hospital floor.

Ten months or so had passed since Twilight had discovered she was pregnant. During this time, Twilight Velvet and Night Light, her parents, had moved into her castle, which she had to expand magically for them.
The day that happened was exactly one week, three hours, two minutes and 31 seconds before Twilight's water broke.
"...And there's Spike and Rarity's room, and Amethyst's room for when she comes, sometime, and there's my and Flash's room, and there's Nyx's room, and of course, we've got the new foal's room right here."
"Twilight, do you know if your foal will be a colt or a filly?"
"Personally, I'd like a (another) filly, but Flash wants a colt, because he says it was fun having an older sister when he was young."
"Oh really? Who's the big sister?"
"Oh, just Spitfire."
"Wow, Twilight, you've got relations all over Equestria!"
"I know, right?"
"Mom! Dad asks if we should assemble the baby crib!"
"Sure! By the way, your grandparents are here!" Yelled Twilight back at her daughter.
"Ooh! Grandma! Grandpa! I can't believe you're here!" Screamed Nyx as she ran into the hallway, crashing into the loving embrace of her grandparents.
"Nyxie, we had to give you a surprise, right? Besides, the last time we saw you was a month ago!" Said Night Light, embracing his granddaughter tightly.
"Hi, Mrs. Velvet. Hello, Mr. Light," said Flash as he stepped into the hallway.
"Well, if it isn't our amazing son-in-law! How's life?" Chuckled Night Light as he shook Flash's hoof.
"Brilliant! Has Twi shown you your new room?" Replied Flash.
"Not yet, Captain, when would you like the action to commence, sir?" Joked Night Light. The new captain of Princess Twilight Sparkle's guard blushed as Velvet gave him a noogie.
"Either way, I want to see my room," stated Velvet firmly when she finished with Flash.
So, the curious little entourage made their way down the halls of the castle.
Elegance.
Radiance.
Signature.
The room was all those things.
The one thing Twilight had not prepared it for was her mother's newly found habit of jumping on the bed like a filly.
Nyx didn't help much. She spread her wings and jumped right in with her grandmother. Together, they successfully broke the bed.
Twilight just groaned and fixed it with her magic.
A minute later, Spike came in. "Hey, Velvet, Night Light."
"How'ya doing, Spike? How's life?" Asked Night Light.
"Great! Rares is taking care of Amethyst for a moment, while I came to tell Nyx something." To Nyx, he said, "Screwball materialized in the lobby, asking if you could come to her place. Something about a cow burping up dark matter..." He shook his head, waved politely, and left.
Nyx looked between the door where her brother (or, since he was married to Rarity now, uncle?) left, then to her grandparents. "Go ahead. This is our new permanent home, we'll be staying for the rest of time!" Chuckled Night Light, ushering his granddaughter out the door. She smiled at him and turned into her trademark indigo coloured cloud. The mass of Nyx then zipped out the door.
Twilight leaned on her husband lovingly.
Life was going to be great.
"AHH!"
The week after, her water broke, early in the morning. Clearly, life was not going to be great.
"Breathe, Twilight, breathe! In, out, in, out, in, out!" Cried Velvet as she called for Fluttershy, who could help greatly.
That, and Nyx and the bunch were at Fluttershy's place.
Night Light summoned a blanket for Twilight, and Flash brought out a stack of waterproof pads.
"Flash?" Asked Twilight between contractions.
"Yes, Twi?" Gulped Flash Sentry.
"Hold my hoof," commanded the young princess. Her husband reluctantly gave her his hoof.
"YAAHH!!!" Screamed Twilight. "OWW! Screamed Flash right along with her as she squeezed his hoof.
Velvet lit her horn with a majestic purple aura. "I can see your foal's head!" She exclaimed.
Nyx, Screwball and Fluttershy materialized with a sprinkling of chocolate milk and indigo magic. "Mom!" Yelled Nyx.
Twilight's horn lit up.
"Uh oh. RUN!" Yelled Nyx to Screwball and Fluttershy. They hit the dirt, along with the rest of the family, as Twilight accidentally cast a freezing spell in order to stop the pain.
Spike and Rarity ran in. "Spikey-Wikey, get me some hot water and towels. Fluttershy, Nyx, Screwy, stay. The rest of you, OUT!" Commanded Rarity.
"Hey! That's my wife! TWILIGHT!" Yelled Flash as Night Light and Spike dragged him out. Eventually, he hit his head on the doorframe and knocked himself out cold.
Meanwhile, Rarity, Nyx and Screwball were assisting Fluttershy in helping Twilight give birth. Velvet came in a few minutes later with a large tub of hot water and a massive stack of towels. Together, with all their magic, they helped Twilight ease the pain, clean up the gross stuff, and watched as Fluttershy waited for the baby patiently.
Half an hour later, Fluttershy cried, "Good work, Twilight! One more big push!"
Twilight Sparkle's cry of pain set a new record for glass breaking. In fact, it broke the commemorative panel that Princess Celestia and Princess Luna were working on to celebrate the new princess's birth.(1)
The scream woke Flash Sentry up. The stallions and dragon all stood up. Flash burst into the bedroom.
Cradled in Twilight's arms was a perfect alicorn filly.
She had an orange coat like her father, but a mane just like her mother's.
"She's beautiful," murmured Flash as he took the young filly into his feathers.
"What should we name her?" Asked Flash.
"One small voice, can teach the world a song
"Start with one small voice
"'Till another joins along,
"And if you feel the music
"And you believe the words..."
"What song is that, Twi?"
"I know what we should name her, Flash. Nyx, take a note. This is your little sister, Starsong Sparkle."
