Mr Bay droned on, and on about something or other; Sky Breeze wasn't really paying much attention to the content of this lecture, for she had diverted her attention to the nearest form of entertainment, which happened to be the window and the world outside the school. It was autumn and the brown leaves were dancing in the wind, sometimes the breeze would whip up the leaves into a crazy circular dance which would last for a few minutes before it got bored and moved on to different things. As Sky Breeze was gazing at the outside, two swallows swooped past the window.
"It's a bit late to be going south guys." She thought.
Sky Breeze sighed deeply, heaving herself upright, the swallows were just specks in the vast blue now. She flexed her wings and sighed again; she would much rather be out with the leaves and the swallows, although not necessarily heading south, her home was north of the school, the only thing south of the school was the Everfree forest, and she didn't really fancy a journey into it.
"Got somewhere else to be, Miss Breeze?" Mr Bay's stern voice brought Sky Breeze back to reality with a thud, her cheeks blazed bright red.
"No I.....I.....I'm just looking." It was only now that she realised Mr Bay had stopped talking.
"I think it's about time we took a break anyway," Mr Bay's voice was gentle now "class dismissed!"
Sky Breeze flashed an apologetic smile at her teacher and scrambled to join the throng of ponies, heading out of the door.

Sky Breeze plodded along, barely lifting her hooves from the ground; her face wasn't too far from it either. Today had been one big waste of time.
"Sky! Sky, wait!" A voice called from behind. "Sky! Would you just......Ughhh!" Melody caught up a few moments later, "What's up Sky? I thought we were going to go to the lake after school?"
"I'm not in the mood for water." Sky Breeze moped.
"Why not, are you feeling ill?"
"Nope, just don't feel like getting wet." Sky Breeze had good reason to say this, whenever she got wet, her mane would take days to dry. No exaggeration. It was so long that it would appear dry to look at, and sometimes even to the touch. However under the surface it would remain damp for quite some time. Damp was uncomfortable, damp is the stage that isn't really good or bad, damp just gets in the way.
"C'mon Sky, its a beautiful day, wouldn't it be nice to cool off after that boring day of school?"
Sky Breeze pondered this. Did she really want to go and get her mane wet? It was rather hot, and all the other times they had gone to the lake it had been fun. She wasn't really in a happy mood, but the swim could cheer her up.
"I suppose." She uttered, sighing deeply.
"Yay, I knew you couldn't resist!" Squealed Melody as she pranced around Sky Breeze.
And so off they went, or rather trudged in the case of Sky Breeze, it wasn't too far to the lake.
Sky had forgotten how nice the lake looked, especially in the summer; the surrounding grass was dotted with all sorts of colourful blooms, the reeds on the banks were thick and full with butterflies flying drunkenly above them. Sky always thought of butterflies as having problems with direction, they always seemed to be all over the place, but judging from the plant life she put it down to them being spoilt for choice. Sky wondered what nectar must taste like, it seemed it would be a mystery, her snout was a bit too big to fit in a flower anyway.
Melody had already reached a nice shady tree and cast off her saddlebag next to the trunk, she then set about removing the ribbons from her mane and tail; Melody's mane was very odd, it was very light blue with a single pink streak in it. Sometimes Sky would call her Mel-odd-y, which she thought was genius. The lilac filly didn't take any offence though, because after all, they were good friends, and both of them weren't exactly 'normal.'
Sky didn't bother walking over to the trunk to dump her saddlebag, she just let it drop. Suddenly she felt as though she could float away into the sky, which was strange; normally she felt she could do that anyway, after all, she had wings. Sky Breeze made her way up to the top of an outcrop that jutted out over the lake, as she neared the top she felt the ground under her hooves harden as the soil gradually thinned into rock. She reached the edge and looked down. She was staring at herself; although it didn't look like herself, it was all wibbly-wobbly, like she was made of jelly, Sky wondered what a pony made of jelly would look like and giggled. Melody was right, this was good, she felt happy again. The wobbly lake pony on the other hand, didn't appear to be feeling the same way.
'All she needs is a nice hug.' Sky breeze thought. She took a few steps back, then made a dash forward and sprang into the air. She splayed her legs out ready to hug the wobbly lake pony, who looked as if it was doing the same thing. Down Sky went.
There was a huge splash as Sky Breeze hugged the wobbly pony into submission. It hurt a lot, but it was worth it. Sky giggled and bubbles burst from her mouth and rose to the surface, Sky followed them up.
She breached the surface in a spray of water as she whipped her mane from the lake's clutches, glad to be out of the water, it clung to her face and obscured her vision.
Sky lifted a hoof and parted her mane, restoring her view. Her first sight was that of a rather displeased, and soggy, Melody shivering on the edge of the lake; Sky Breeze burst out laughing and collapsed into the water, Melody saw the funny side too and began to giggle. Soon Melody was rushing into the water and splashing furiously to get her revenge. That was when the true battle began!
Time well spent.
