Zap Apple Origins

today was a rather nice and warm day thanks to the pegasi but not for me for i resign in one of the most feared places in equestria, the Everfree Forest, I didnt always live here i was banished here by princess celestia for my dark experiments, often times i would try to create new creatures from various things i saw lying around the house. The creatures i created were usually small in size and harmless but it often took alot of dark magic to bring them to life, and well the princess didnt really agree with my experiments, so when she first found out she destroyed them and told me to stop with these creations or face the consequences. By what you can tell i didn't really listen to her orders I thought that my creations could amaze many ponies and attract them to canterlot so we could have more tourists visiting and having fun but i guess celestia didnt see eye to eye with me. Anyway after that little setback I decided that i needed to go larger with my experiments and since i was banished to the everfree forest i had plenty of room for my experiments all i had to do was aquire some, materials for my creations i ultimatly used body parts of various animals although many of them were failures i had some success. some of you may recognize my dreaded manticore its not like nature can create such horrid creatures no i made that one my self out of an old lions corpse and a scorpion tail i had lying around. It was a huge success in my part but it quickly went wrong when it started to attack my other creations, so I had to move it far away so it wouldn't cause anymore trouble. My name by the way is Doctor Ultra Violet I used to be a medical doctor until i realised that i could do so much more with my skill set and thats when i decided to start with my creations that got me here. but this isnt about me its about one of my creations, The rather famous Zap apples

and thier connection with magic and the timber wolves. It is a some what dark story let me just tell you that it is a somewhat dark story but its not to bad i dont think so anyway but lets get started.

It was a few years ago and i had just finished one of my latest experiments i had called them parasprites they are a small creature not much larger than the end of my hoof but they spread like wild fire constantly eating and creating more of themselves which was unexpected and a bit of a problem, so like the manticore i had to move it to another area in the forest adn i had realized that maybe i should take a break from animals and move into botanic species (plants) it took me days of planning and thinking it over but i finally had the idea of the Zap apples a wonderfully delicious fruit with a little "jolt" added in. To acctually creat such a fruit was more difficult than i thought, i had many different out comes but they just didn't come out as i planned one huge failure i had was one that looked fairly good but upon bitting into it it sent out a large electrical charge into the sky almost hitting a passing pegasus, im pretty sure it hit his wing tip and burnt it a little although I couldnt really see where i was standing. But many attemps later i finally got it, the fruit and taste was perfect and it was more than i had dreamed of so with out haste i cut open the fruit and gathered all the seeds to my suprise the seeds were shaped like little lightning bolts kinda like the stem of the fruit, i took the seeds and immediatly started planting them i had twelve in total which was enough for me but i didnt really know much about farming considering i never worked a farm in my life, but i knew that these trees would take a long time to grow, but they didn't for as soon as i finished planting the seeds i turned started to walk back to my home i didn't get far when i heard a loud crash of thunder that was suprisingly close, i hadn't expected it so it made me jump a little i looked back expecting to see a wayward pegasus playing practical jokes but what i saw next was completely unexpected. I saw twelve trees eactly where i had planted my seeds but the trees didnt have any leaves on them so i wondered why, but i eventually gave up and went back home. While i was at home i started thinking maybe the trees grew so fast because of the little amount of magic i had placed in the fruit or maybe it was something super-natural I never figured out why. I ultimatley went back to working on animals just because of how tired i was after trying again and again to make a fruit as wonderful as the original zap apple but i never came close. As i was thinking of ideas for new creations i had an idea "how about i make a wolf like creature out of wood and give it a bit of magic and a small electrical charge." Like the zap apples it took many weeks of complete and utter failures but all it took was the right mixtures and i did it I had created the wonderful timber wolves i grew wonderfully excited for my new creation so i made six more but after bringing the last one to life they all ran out of my house and out into the forest in the same direction as my zap apple trees which was a little odd but could have been a coincedence but as always I just went back to my experiments. Just a few days later I was awoken by a loud rather sad sounding howl no doubt it was my timber wolves so i got up as quickly as possible and ran after the noise i knew the path of which it had originated from, it was the path i created leading to my zap apple farm but when i arrived there were no timber wolves but i had noticed something had changed about my trees the brances were in different patterns and they now had leaves on them, they had appeared as quickly as the trees had grown but there were only three leaves per branch so there were a minimal amount of leaves but i was still overjoyed by them and i knew that i would have fruit in the near future. After a few days of going back and forth to the orchard nothing happened until this morning. i heard a large flock a ravens flying over my house and they were unnaturally loud it caught my attention but only for a second and i went back to sleep as soon as they passed. An hour later i had awoken and went to go check my farm i had noticed that the leaves had turned into flowers but i had expected the flowers to be rainbow coloured as was the fruit but they wern't the flowers were just grey and bland but i knew that this would take time so i returned home for more experementations and study its not like i have anything else to do here in the forest. I had noticed that when ever something odd and out of place happened my trees would change like how my timber wolves had howled and the large flock of ravens but this next sign was unexpected it was very minor but i knew it was still a sign, this time it was just a very large gust of wind that blew open all my windows and knoked down half of the things in my house, It was odd because i had known that the pegasi didnt plan any windstorms today so i had my suspicions but i didn't jump to conclusions. After i finished cleaning up my house and putting everthing back i went back out to my orchard again the branches changed shape and pattern but the flowers were gone and were replaced by small grey fruit, I will admit this is not what I expected but it was still progress. I had done alittle research on apple farming and learned the best strategy for harvesting them. The book had said to go and kick the trees with my hind legs and the force should cause them to fall. So following the instructions of the book i had kicked the tree as hard as i could and i had expected the apples to fall into the buckets i had placed around the tree, but they didnt instead i heard the sound of an electrical surge and i looked back and saw electrical charge flowing away from where i had kicked and spread throughout the tree and it reverberated back towards my hooves and the electricity began to flow through my body and in return pushed me away from the tree and i landed on the opposite side of the orchard with my mane standing on end and a little burnt. I then quickly got back to my feet adn went to investigate at a safe distance and i then realized that maybe i need to pick the apples. I had decided rather than going near the tree i would use my magic to pick the apples. But the apples simply refused to come off the tree it was then that i realised that maybe they arn't ripe yet so I returned home for some more study on magic. i had decided to take a break from all my experementing. today was like any normal day but it was cloudy, very cloudy so i decided to stay inside for now and sit by the fireplace and read. After a few chapters in my book i heard thunder come from outside so i trotted over to the window and looked outside i was suprised to find that all the clouds had dissapeared, since this doesnt normally happen i grew suspicious so i decided to go back and check my orchard just to be safe but when i arrived i caught a glimpse of my timber wolves just as they left. It was nice to see them again but what i saw next was simply amazing. All the grey fruit were gone replaced by large rainbow coloured aplles with a lightning shaped stem. After i had taken it all in i immediatly started picking and i got a little over half but when i went to pick another it vanished with a surge of electrical energy as well as the others it was suprising but i had enough to last a while and lots of more seeds to plant more trees. After i had finished planting the new seeds i had obtained and like the others they had grew in an instant which was a good sign i new that i would have to pick alot faster next time around but i would deal with it then. I hadn't known that it would take another year for the signs to start up again but i grew excited. After the last sign i was ready to start picking but while on my way there i had stopped after i saw a little girl with a bonnet and a picture of an apple pie on her flank picking my apples. I was about to speak up and stop her when i heard the howl of my timber wolves they had ran right past me and after her i knew that she would be in trouble but she noticed the timber wolves and took of running as fast as she could i soon followed after i had followed them till the end of the forest which was a good ten minute walk but i stopped and watched from a safe distance. There was a small house with a little farm out front it was a very pathetic farm the veggies that were being grown were very small not much larger than one of my parasprites from a while back. The little girl had stopped and grabbed a large wooden spoon and bagan to start beating it against the metal pot that was hanging there. What she had done was smart fo rit had stopped my timber wolves and alerted the rest of her family i didn't want to be seen so I ran back into the woods towards my house After I got there i was angry at the fact that i missed the harvest time and the rest of the apples were gone. That little girl had ruind this years chance to harvest my apples I didn't usually let anger get the best of me and this time was no different i quickly calmed down and simply said "guess i will have to wait till next year" and it was late and i was tired so i went to bed thinking about what i could do to prevent anyone else from stealing my apples. So that is essentially the story of how I created the zap apples and how they found thier way to the little town of ponyville.
