Beyond the Setting Sun

by LuxAeterna
Equestria prospers and Celestia is content. Her sister has returned, Discord has been brought to heel and the Crystal Empire is restored. A golden age is set to dawn. But an ancient betrayal may yet undo Equestria. War looms across the sea.

They came to Equestria from the out of the western sea, fleeing from war and death. The broken remnants of a once-mighty people. They settled the far western isles and were insular, secretive, and passed out of thought and memory for three hundred years.

But now an old longing stirs anew. Blood for blood, fire for fire. Vengeance.

Calling upon a magic older than the Sun and Moon, older than Equestria itself, they seek to return to their homeland beyond the wide sea, to rekindle the long-ago war that originally drove them from their homes. But they will not march to war alone. Celestia is bound by magic and blood and guilt to aid them in their cause and so shatter a thousand years of peace.

But even the threat of war is so not terrible as that which waits in the shadows, far beyond the guttering light of Harmony. Things that have abided in darkness and patience for their time to come again, things that long to snuff out Equestria and all it stands for. That long, finally, to be free…
