Introductions

Beloved Readers,

Before I delve into this tale, there are a few things I’d like to make clear to all of you.

There are a few aspects of this story that, immediately upon hearing, would typically be considered hindrances to any work of literature, regardless of how well-written it might be.

The first of these is the incorporation of an “original character”, specifically mine. The second is the fact that I, personally, consider this character to be a “self-insert”.

Before you give a resounding “No” and click the dislike button, allow me to establish two things in particular:

First of all, I have no intention of presenting this character as something we readers like to call a “Gary Stu”. He has numerous flaws, as anyone else should, and a lot of things that aren’t going well for him. As a matter of fact, he isn’t even the main character. This story is actually written in first-person perspective, and it’s not his.

Second, this is not a normal thing for me to do. In fact, I would never have considered writing a story like this under normal circumstances. However, as is obviously the case, these circumstances are far from normal.

About two and a half months ago from the day I write this message, my mother passed away.

The fact of the matter is that I simply felt compelled to write this down. It is my best attempt to translate my experience into an Equestrian setting, and to interpret it from an outside perspective. Some may find the outside perspective I’ve chosen to be annoying or generic, but I, for one, find it to be rather fitting.

As a fellow reader of My Little Pony fan fiction, I can completely relate to many of your disdain for these types of stories. I generally avoid them, as well. If the mere concept is simply too jarring for your taste, I request that you go no further and be on your way.

My goal here is not to acquire viewers or obtain superb ratings. My only objective is my own selfish satisfaction. That being said, I ask—for my deceased mother’s sake—that you respect this story for what it is and what it’s trying to express.

If you have a problem with this story that is too immense to be ignored, by all means, tell me. I assure you, I’m not easily offended. I’d rather see a red thumbs down and a completely blunt criticism than a red thumbs down and no explanation.

Alas, I am fully aware that there will be people who ignore this request. Such is the nature of the internet. This is merely a message for those of you who care enough to hear me out before making any hasty judgments.

Thank you for reading. Without further ado, here is my story.

Warm regards,

Key Tapper
