Chapter 1: Intro to Transportation and Scheduling
“TWILIGHT DIANE SPARKLE GET DOWN HERE THIS INSTANT!”
Twilight’s head immediately shot up from her desk, the book that had previously been resting on top of her head was sent flying across the room and bounced off of the far wall.
“Wha?!”She said as her brain slowly came back online. Sitting upright she began to hoof through the stacks of papers on her desk, more than a few dabbled in drool, before it finally dawned on her.
Crap crap CRAP! She thought to herself, her eyes growing frantic I can’t believe I fell asleep! My comparative analysis on freshman year personality types isn’t even complete?! “Crap crap crap!”
“TWILIGHT!! YOU’RE GOING TO BE LATE IF YOU DON’T GET DOWN HERE!”
Her mother’s call once again sounded from the kitchen downstairs making Twilight’s heartbeat flutter.
Oh no what time is it?! She thought glancing at the alarm clock on the nightstand on the left of her desk
8:22 AM
No no no, this can’t be happening! I had everything scheduled out! I can’t be late for the first day.. what will everyone think of me? I’ll look like some sort of delinquent!
“Coming mother! just one moment!” She hollered out.
Ok, i can do this, first I need to pack everything, where’s that first day checklist I wrote.
Rifling through the messy stacks papers on her desk she found the long yellow piece of parchment and smoothed it out in front of her.
Alright, first I need… wait what?
Looking down at the paper a look of horror began to grow on her face. Last night while she peacefully slept dreaming about dragons, knights, and the unit circle, her drool had flowed like a mighty river, carving through the ink and leaving small washed out squiggles where the letters once were.
This can’t be happening. this can’t be happening!
“TWILIGHT! NOW!” She heard her mother call out again. Another quick check at the clock
8:23
AAAH! OK, just grab EVERYTHING!
She proceed to shove almost all the entire contents of her desk into the pitiful frame of her saddlebags. The small canvas sacs bulged, corners of papers and books sticking out at odd angles as she tried to manhandle the top closed. Eventually she gave up trying to close it and dashed downstairs, comically leaving a trail of flying papers behind her.
“Goodness gracious Twilight! I would have thought with how excited you were for today you would have put more time into preparation.” Her mother said looking angrily at her daughter. What followed was possibly the longest run on sentence the mare had ever heard spoken.
“I know mom i’m sorry, I was just up late reading this paper from the Canterlot Journal of Clinical Psychology about different types of psychological dispositions under stress and the traits they possess and I thought to myself what is more stressful than freshman year? I figured I could do my own canvas of my fellow classmates to try to detect different personality types but then why stop there, knowing my own type I could match me and my other classmates to who they would be most compatible with, lab partner and project wise and so I started writing down diff-”
“Twilight, stop.” Her mother interrupted rubbing the bridge of her snout with her hoof. Slowly she walked over to Twilight and placed a hoof on her shoulder. The look she gave her daughter was a combination of exasperation and concern.
“How about you just make some friends the good old fashioned way, some people will surprise you in ways you wouldn't believe! Just try to enjoy yourself, these will be some of the most fun years of your life and I just want to make sure you don’t get so focused on studies that you forget to have fun.”
Twilight looked away for a moment.
“Yeah OK… Thanks Mom.”
“That's my little sparkler.” She said wrapping her slightly flustered daughter in a hug.
“Don’t call me that Mom… I’m not a little filly anymore..” Twilight muttered.
“Doesn't mean I can’t pretend every once in a while.” She replied, pulling a lunchbox from the counter top and giving it to Twilight. “but you better get going, you’re going to be late.”
Glancing at the clock Twilight gasped.
8:31
She was officially late for the first day of high school.
OK plan B, plan B… What is plan B… AHA!
“OK, don’t worry Mom, Princess Celestia has started teaching me the basics to teleportation spells and though she only showed me the first half I think I can figure out the rest,” Twilight said, her horn beginning to glow.
“Honey! um didn't she also tell you that you need to practice the steps a lot more before you attempt the actual spell!”
“relax Mom!” Twilight shouted over the roaring sound of building magic, “Last time I teleported something it was only 40 feet off the ground when it reappeared. Only 40! can you believe it!”
I still don’t think that is such a good-”
BOOM!
“Idea……”
The cabinets in the kitchen flew open and Twilight Velvet’s mane whipped back in the sudden gale force wind.
“Boys are soooo much easier...” She muttered to herself, eyeing the large black scorch mark in the middle of the kitchen floor.

A dull roar slowly rose up from the small crowd of students gathered in the school’s main foyer. Against the far wall and up on the balcony the juniors and seniors chatted together amiably. Spread out against the other walls the sophomores were of a similar sort, talking with their friends, mostly about how they were glad that they weren't freshmen. The youngest grade was gathered in the center, huddled in little groups of friends like penguins talking nervously, occasionally eyeing the sophomores the way a deer warily eyes a wolf.
“Did you read the new Daring Do novel?” A nervous looking brown colt said to a classmate next to him.
“Yeah.” he replied while staring at the floor awkwardly.
There was no further exchange.
RRRRING!
The school bell was loud and the freshmen just about jumped out of their skin upon hearing the sound, though they were quick to regain their composure. Many began pulling out class schedules checking numbers of rooms against maps of the school ensuring they would not suffer the humiliation of going to the wrong classroom. The upperclassmen started the migration into the hallways quickly followed by sophomores, and finally the freshmen.
CRACK!
Not many students had actually made it into the hallways when a bright flash of light erupted from the ceiling of the foyer, a small purple unicorn suddenly popping into existence a good 45 feet from the floor. Looking down her eyes went wide.
“S@#$”
