The World Is Always Unique
Childhood
Load Full StoryNext ChapterI remember when I was still a colt, wanting to become an artist. I was inspired by my father and his friends. Some were DJs, painters, and fashion designers. I didn't like being a DJ, or a fashion designer, really. I was always interested in painting, but I liked painting with spray color cans. I wouldn't really use a canvas. I would always wander off into alleyways, and find brick walls to paint on. I remember when I found some full blue, red, yellow, and green spray cans on the floor next to me when I walked into my first alleyway.
"Hey, kid."
I flinched. I looked behind me. There was a dark red stallion in front of me. He had gold piercing on his right ear. The dark red stallion also had tattoos on the left side of his face. I couldn't tell what tattoos they were, considering that he was standing in the dark.
I didn't say anything. I didn't reply.
"What? You scared?" he tells me.
I tried not to be scared, but I hesitated. My pupils dilated.
The dark red stallion laughs. He smiles at me, but gently.
"Ah, don't worry," the dark stallion pats my head with his hoof. "You look like you're full of potential."
My eyes brightened. I smirked a bit, I'll have to admit.
"Well? You wanna try?" he points out to the cans.
I nodded, and looked at the cans.
"But, how do they work?" I ask.
He grabs one of the cans, and presses the top of it, facing the wall. It was a blue mist coming out of the can. I looked at the wall. There was a blue line on it.
"See how I did it? You can paint anything you want," the dark red stallion gives me the blue spray can. "Just use all of the colors."
I grabbed the blue spray can. I closed my eyes, and imagined a house. As I opened my eyes, I started spraying the blue sky. It took me awhile to fill it in, but it looked good. I grabbed the yellow spray can, and spray painted the sun in the corner of the sky. After that, I snatched the red can. I tried to imagine a red house while painting, but there was some flaws. But the house looked good. There was some windows, and a door, everything that a house needed. Last but not least, I grabbed the green can, and sprayed the grass on the ground near the house's entrance.
I stepped back to take a look. The dark red stallion looked at what I painted. He was impressed. I looked to see as well, and I thought I did bad.
"Aww, man... I don't like this one..." I sigh.
"Nahhhh, you used everything. For a kid, this isn't half bad." he tells me.
"HEY! WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING HERE!?"
I looked to the right. It was a mare, by the sound of the voice.
The dark red stallion grabbed my hoof. We both started running. As I looked back, the mare was still after us.
"Hey, are you fit?" he questions me.
"Yeah." I replied.
"Well, we're about to do a lot of running, dude!" he informs me.
I looked in the direction the stallion was guiding me to. I saw three buildings. The first was short, and the rest were a bit taller than the first, and after the second.
I started running with him. He threw me up onto the first platform, and climbed up without trouble. Was he a freerunner?
The dark red stallion looks at me like we need to get the hell out. He puts his hoof out for me to get thrown up again, so I grabbed it. He threw me up.
Suddenly, a rock hit his right leg's joint. He gasped in pain. I remained calm. I held out a hoof for him. He grabbed my hoof, and I tried hard to push him up. The stallion used the rest of his weight to push himself up. He nods back at me. I climb up the other building. And once again, held out a hoof for him. He got up.
The stallion and I both ran to the edge of the building. There was the road. Under us, though, was a dumpster. I grabbed his hoof, and we both dived in.
It stank. I held my breath. The dark red stallion did as well.
I could hear the mare walking out of the alleyway, looking for both of us. After awhile, the mare walked back. We both got out of the dumpster, and looked around to make sure. One thing that I noted, was that there was a hospital on the other side.
"....We lost her." the dark red stallion sighs in relief.
"Yep. But, we both smell like crap, dude." I chuckle.
"Let's take you to the hospital. Your joint is torn." I looked back at him.
We walked to the hospital. After treatment, I went to go check on him. He looked fine.
"Hey, kid, come here." the dark red stallion commanded.
I walk over to him.
"What's your name?" he asks.
"Street." I replied.
He smirks, and says, "The name's Spray. I'm going to teach you how to become a street artist. Come back to the alleyway tomorrow morning, okay kid?"
"Yeah. I will." I promised.
He smiles, and then goes to sleep. It was getting dark anyway. I had to go home.
~(After walking back home...)~
"You what!?" My father asks.
"I'm going to go under Spray to learn how to become a street artist." I reply with confidence.
He looks at me with disappointment, but realizes that I am following my heart. My father smiles.
"Okay. But, no video games for tomorrow." he tells me.
I sigh, and also smile. I go to my room, and sleep.

Everyday, I went to Spray. He taught me everything, spray painting to freerunning. When I had grown up to become a stallion like him, there was a gray creature on him. He was losing the color of himself.
"Hey! Stop right there!" I yelled at the gray creature.
It looked me, coming right at me. I quickly grabbed a random spray can, and sprayed the color in it's eyes. It suffered in agony.
I spit at the creature. I ran to Spray. He looked okay, but the dark redness of him was gone. He got up, and said to me,
"Hey."
"Are you okay, Spray?" I asked with worry.
"Yeah, I'm fine. But, what's with the color, man?" he tells me.
"What are you talking about?" I ask.
"Y'know, how come everything isn't gray?" he replied back at me with blandness.
I looked at him. Everything that was creative, was sucked out. My pupils dilated, I ran out of the alleyway, and looked at the cloudy gray sky. It rained. I looked down, with disappointment and sadness. There was a blue puddle in front of me. Showing my physical appearance. My turquoise eyes, my blue body, and my messy black hair... All wet. With sadness.
It rained. For such a long time, that I had to walk home. After I walked home, my father looked at me with worry.
"Are you okay, Street?" he asks me.
"..." I didn't reply. I just walked to my room, and cried in my pillow.
My mentor was gone...
