What happens when a spirit born of knowledge, accumulated over thousands of years, brings itself to Ponyville ? Nightmares and sorrow ensue, causing the residents to question their very reality. What can be done when the culprit refuses to show itself, and the lives and minds of all of Ponyville begin to unravel?

Twilight begins her studies, but finds that the more she learns and delves into these books, the more she is turned to darkness. Other ponies begin to be affected as well, but with Twilight losing herself so quickly, how are they to battle something they know so little about?
