A night to celebrate

It was a night to celebrate. The Wonderbolts, elite flyer of Princess Celestia, were completing 1030 years of existence. The performance of the most beloved of all Equestria pegasus tonight would be extra special. It was the last Spitfire performance as captain of the Wonderbolts and the presentation of the new captain. Speculation and bets were all that equestrians did last week. Some even speculated see a Sonic Rainboom on that night, feat that Rainbow Dash did not perform since the royal wedding in Canterlot.

Ponies of all ages and races filled the stands of the Stadium Canterlot. The five princesses and Prince took their seats in the VIP box, accompanied by the rulers from other lands and the Elements of Harmony and their husbands and children.

” Where is Dashie? I did not see her yet.” Pinkie Pie was practically hanging on the balcony of the VIP box, searching for the recognizable rainbow trail.

“Mom, I'm sure Spitfire did not Aunt Rainbow leave out of the most epic presentation of all.” Fiesta smiled when pulling Pinkie safely back to the chair.

“Would be simply deplorable if she did. Spitfire knows how the public loves our dear Rainbow Dash.” Rarity wore a blue dress decorated with a small winged thunderbolt in the feathered collar.

Princess Twilight Sparkle, on her throne, agreed with Rarity. Spitfire should be reserved Rainbow Dash for something breathtaking to the eager crowd.

“Although I must add that my Thunderlane is divinely bright tonight.” Rarity looked at her husband from the group in the sky at that time. Beside her, her son Silver Swirl and his fiancée Melody talked to Aurora about everything that was presented.

“Of course I knew she would not appear. I'm talking about Apple Glider, of course.” Melody commented causing a frown in Aurora.

“Of course she came!” But even Aurora was not sure, did not see AG personally for years.

Upon hearing that, Applejack was silent, looking at the sky and pegasus who were now performing, replacing the other group. The spotlight of the stage was lit and a sweet voice was heard by the crowd.

I've waited far too long for my one moment to shine.

Silence engulfed the crowd, everypony looked curious to the stage temporarily placed there.

To show them all that I'm not like the other pegasi

Some curious still looked at the sky, the Wonderbolts group was still performing.

But you are told that you are not what they expected

A second searchlight lit, revealing a pegasus mare. Recognizing the mare, the crowd cheered. She continued singing while another group, this time some former Wonderbolts, replaced the other group in the sky. The group composed Fleetfloot, Soarin, Misty Fly, Blaze, Fire Streak, Surprise and High Winds illuminated the sky with old maneuvers well knowned and loved by fans.

"If you cannot push your limits how do you expect to lead them?"

In the end you will finally realize

So many times I've tried to show that I'm a leader

While the mare was still singing the last chorus, a trail rainbow quickly flew to the sky. In the next second a loud bang accompanied by a beautiful multicolor spectral ring appeared in the sky, viewers were vaulted to then burst into euphoric applause and screams. Rainbow Dash drew the number 1030 in the sky with the trail of the Sonic Rainboom, leading fans to crazyness.

On the VIP box, princesses, prince, Elements, husbands and children applauded warmly. Pinkie Pie had pulled the party cannon from somewhere and a shower of confetti covered the ponies below the box.

“Just like at our wedding. Is not that beautiful, Shining?” Cadance looked the 1030 written in rainbow.

“Except for the fact that Rainbow Dash did not write our names in rainbow.” The stallion joked.

"Daddy!" Skyla laughed, rebuking her father.

Twilight laughed along as she left the VIP box and headed to the stage. Princess Celestia delegated to her an important task that night, something that Twilight was really happy to do. She went on stage and the crowd was slowly calming down.

“Good Night, everypony. Tonight we are here to celebrate something very important. A thousand years ago, General Firefly founded a flight team, a team called the Wonderbolts. Great names passed through this elite flyer and made great things. Many were marked forever in equestrian history. When I lived here in Canterlot, I never had contact with any pegasus who dreamed of being a Wonderbolt. But in Ponyville, the first pegasus with whom I had contact told me she was practicing to show her stuff for them. I had the great pleasure to follow step by step towards the realization of dream of that pegasus, who I have the affection and proud to call my friend, Rainbow Dash. And I know it's not just her, I know that each day many colts and fillies founs in be a Wonderbolt a dream for life, a dream that takes dedication, study and especially, love to fly.”

The crowd applauded enthusiastically, but calmed down to hear what Princess Twilight had to say.

“I would like to thank the Wonderbolts already retired, who dedicated this time to brighten this night. I would also like to thank Sky Wishes, the pony of Pop, for the excellent song about a period that all Wonderbolt passes before being Wonderbolt, the Wonderbolts Academy.”

Sky Wishes waved to the crowd which responded fervently with whistles and euphoric screams.

"Today, Commander Spitfire is leaving the Wonderbolts, and now I pass the word to her." Twilight walked away from the microphone, standing next to Sky Wishes.

“Good night, Princess Twilight Sparkle. Good Night, Princesses Celestia and Luna, Good night, Princesses Cadance and Skyla. Good Night, Prince Shining Armor. Good evening, Elements of Harmony and their families. Good evening, professional colleagues. Good Night, everypony present here. Tonight is certainly special to me, I devoted much of my life for the Wonderbolts, were not easy times, but the affection of the fans and the gratitude of you equestrians always made me see how it was worth the effort of command the Equestrian Air Force. Today I am leaving my legacy to another pony. A pony that I'm sure is up to the job. I could see her growing as Wonderbolt and she helped me grow as a pony. And this pony is Rainbow Dash.”

To the applause of the crowd, Rainbow Dash went on stage, her heart pounding in her chest. Spitfire pulled away, giving way to Twilight, which was carrying a book. Rainbow Dash approached of her friend, her princess, and lowered the hood of uniform. With a solemn expression, she put her right hoof in the book wrapped by the magenta magic.

"I, Rainbow Dash, promise to exercise my craft with integrity, ensuring the safety of equestrian nation and its citizens. I promise loyalty to the princesses, not using my power to oppose against the equestrian government, except in cases of necessity. "

The crowd respectfully applauded when Rainbow finished the oath and then princesses, prince, Wonderbolts, former Wonderbolts and elements of harmony gathered at a private party in ballroom of the castle.

Sky Wishes entered the ballroom trying to go unnoticed until she got to the bathroom. Upon entering the room, took a deep breath and looked in the mirror, seeing the reflection of another mare beside her. Applejack. She had two options: leave the bathroom as if nothing had happened and face it like an adult pony.

"I knew you were coming over here." Said the older mare. "Bathrooms were always your favorite kind of hiding when you did some bullshit."

"But I did not do anything stupid this time." Sky Wishes replied.

“So why are you here and not in the party?” Applejack kept looking the young mare.

"Because I ... uh ... I'm touching up my makeup."

"Without a carrying case? You have always been a terrible liar, though you could invent fantastic stories to cover up the truth. But I see even that you leave aside."

Sky Wishes turned to the mare. She was exactly the way she remembered: the same brown Stetson in the blonde mane laboriously tied in a braid, the tail was the same style and she wore a white collar with a golden apple in the middle.

"I did not leave anything aside."

“Oh, of course not. Want me to start in chronological or alphabetical order? How many years you do not appear in the family reunion? Where were you when Granny Smith died? Not to mention your real name and your accent. Do not tell me you did not leave anything aside, young lady.”

"Stop talking to me this way, I'm not 12 years, mother!"

"Great, now I'm your mother! Pardon, but I have no daughter named Sky Wishes." Applejack walked to the bathroom door. "If you ever want to leave this false little world you live in, always have a bed waiting for you in Sweet Apples Acre." The orange mare opened the door and left.

Sky Wishes watched the mare go out and the door shut. Hot tears roamed her face when she looked in the mirror. She quickly washed her face and stared again. The freckles between the eyes, above the nose were visible. Her birthmark, which made her so equal to the mare that had just left. She would not dare go back to the ballroom, not as Sky Wishes, not as herself. Spreading her wings, she flew into the night sky by the large bathroom window.
