Murder on a Moonlit Night
A dark night. A dark house. A dark room...a dark lamp. Just kidding. A bright lamp illuminating a lone figure in the house. Lighting up the bulging envelope of cold cash in the figure's hand. The menacing sneer the man wears as he turns and dashes back into the evening. What an ignorant fool he is, for he does not notice the young girl who follows him into the shadows.
The burglar runs silently yet swiftly into the nearby forest, only pausing once he reached a grove of trees bathed in moonlight. He slowly regains his breath and relaxes, until he hears a twig snap behind him. The thief whirls around expecting a challenge, only to find an adolescent girl standing before him. She wears a lush green nightdress that goes all the way to her ankles, perfectly matching the midnight sheet of hair flowing down her back. The girl stands there glaring at the burglar as he thinks of what to do in this unexpected situation. He decides to play the nice guy and puts what he thinks to be a reassuring smile on his not-so-friendly face. His attempt at cordiality utterly fails.
The girl opens her pretty mouth and starts to sing. The haunting melody she coos is nothing like the normal music of the day, meant to brighten your world. No, this song could only be described as the anthem of a spooky Halloween film. Shivers go down the burglar's spine as the air around him starts to grow icy cold. The sudden change shouldn't be possible, especially during the hot and humid summertime. The girl's eyes are narrowed in what the burglar mistakenly takes as concentration, as his world begins to twist into nightmare. He shudders from both cold and fear as the tree branches around him begin to bend forward, as if seeking to impale him upon their spindly ends. He keeps telling himself to snap out of it and wake up, because such a thing could never be possible in reality. The poor fool could never be more wrong.
As the girl continues to sing, the thief starts to perspire as he senses several eyes watching him from all directions. He whirls around and around, looking for possible adversaries, but only finding the looming trees and the murky shadows in between. Before he can calm down, a low, unearthly growl resounds around him. The burglar freezes in place as the growl sounds closer and closer. He finally forces himself to turn around, and must clamp his free hand over his mouth to prevent his scream from escaping at the sight before him. A large black wolf is crouching before him, eyes full of malice and lust for flesh...most notably, HIS flesh. It flashes its large and deadly fangs at the cowardly thief as more growls suddenly fill the grove.
The burglar lets out a childish whimper as he takes in the terrifying presences surrounding him. One by one, black wolves fill the grove, all glaring at him with hunger in their cruel eyes. They give him a terrifying, feral grin reserved for cornered prey like himself. As the last wolf steps into the moonlight, the girls finishes her chilling melody. All too late, the burglar realizes that this seemingly innocent girl had somehow called the pack to the grove by means of her singing. He looks at her, not in scorn, amusement or an attempt at looking friendly, but in obvious terror and confusion. He stares into her cold blue eyes and it dawns in him that the emotion in those icy orbs isn't concentration...it's BLOODLUST. The girl utters a single word in some unknown language, and all hell breaks loose.
Before the poor fool can so much as twitch a finger, the ring of wolves surrounding him explodes into chaos as each beast assaults him. A shriek of both terror and agony rips into the air as the wolves tear into his flesh. Again and again and again they plunge their white teeth into his arms, legs and torso, gradually turning their fangs a deep crimson red. The girl watches the slaughter with not pity, but cold amusement, as well as feral glee at the ensuing carnage before her. Who would've thought that somebody with so pure an outward appearance could turn out be so hideous an executioner?
In a course of a few minutes, the wretched screams of the dying burglar fade into nothing more than gurgles as the pack consumes him utterly. At long last, no sound comes from the center of the massacre, and the savage butchers step back to view their work. What's left of the once sly thief could never be called "human". After all, how could a glistening lump of flesh, blood and bone ever be so dignified and worthy of the title? The girl walks forward towards the cadaver, and the pack respectfully backs away. As she passes them by, the girl gives each wolf an affectionate pat on the head, as they gaze up at her with fondness in large eyes that had moments before held only ravenous hunger. They watch the girl walk up to the horror in the grove while their crimson muzzles continue to ooze and drip gore.
The girl bends down and retrieves a blood-soaked envelope from the mess and pauses to examine it in the fading moonlight. As she grins in primal satisfaction, the last beams of light illuminate four dangerously large fangs that give contrast to her otherwise innocent features. The pack howls in victory and glee as the clouds above slowly cover the crescent moon, hiding the horrific scene below from the rest of the still sleeping world.
