Scootaloo sat in the open fields. The air smelled damp. A clear sign of rain. The sky darkened.
Tears streamed down the orange filly's face. Why was she so useless? Couldn't she just die? Why did she exist?

"You are so useless!" Diamond Tiara growled.
"Yeah, you're nothing but a big flightless chicken." Silver Spoon agreed, "Penguins would sooner fly than you!"
"Bu-but so what if my wings can't get me of the ground! Rainbow Dash says I'm a winner! My friends believe in me. You guys don't know anything!" Scootaloo shot back.
"Rainbow Dash was lying to you. She just feels sorry for you. Oh, and your friends? The ones who called you a chicken? Yeah, such friends you have!" said Diamond Tiara.
"Everypony hates you! It would be better for all of us if you just died, you orphan!" Silver Spoon teased.
Scootaloo was in the verge of tears now. She shot off the hills, leaving Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara alone.

They were right. She was just a big, flightless, stupid, useless chicken. Nopony loved her. Nopony cared about her. Nopony wanted her. She was just a useless orphan with dreams that'll never happen.
"No-nopony wants to adopt me." Scootaloo spoke her own thoughts.
She didn't have any family.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid! This is all your fault! Why else would Rainbow Dash feel sorry for you?" she hit herself in the head.
"Why was I born? Why can't I just die?" she cried out.
Rain poured down from the back clouds.
Just what I deserve! Scootaloo gritted her teeth.
She shivered and looked up. It was almost night. The caretaker would've been looking for her by now.
She couldn't go back.
"Scootaloo!" a voice cried out in the rain.
Scootaloo expected to see the caretaker, but a certain cyan blue Pegasus with a rainbow-colored mane was standing out in the rain instead.
Rainbow Dash.
"Scotalooo!" Rainbow's voice was faint.
Scootaloo didn't move. She didn't want to go. She wanted to stay. She wanted to die.
Rainbow Dash spotted the orange filly, though, and she quickly dashed up to her.
"Scootaloo! What are you doing out in this rain? Are you trying to catch a cold?" she worriedly asked.
Scootaloo flattened her ears, "No. I'm trying to die." she bitterly replied.
Rainbow Dash blinked, "What? Why would you want to die?" she asked.
"Because I'm stupid! I'm useless! I'm...flightless." Scootaloo said.
"No! Why would you think that?" Rainbow Dash asked.
Scootaloo turned to Rainbow Dash with anger in her eyes.
"You know why! I'm a nopony! Everypony just feels sorry for me! I'm an orphan! Nopony wants me! My friends even call me chicken!" she snapped.
Rainbow Dash was taken back. Scootaloo wasn't like this.
"Why would you think that? Your friends were only ever teasing." Rainbow Dash asked.
"Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon said so." Scootaloo mumbled.
"Scoot, we've talked about this, they're just trying to get under your wing-" Rainbow began, but was interrupted by Scootaloo.
"Do I look stupid to you? I know we've talked about this! I'm sad because it's true!" Scootaloo snarled.
"Scoot-" Rainbow pleaded.
"I-just go Rainbow Dash." Scootaloo sat down, "Tell the others I'm not coming back."
Rainbow sighed.
"I was a filly once. I had parents. I had a family. But that was taken away from me. It was the coldest day of my life, and me and my mom were in our wooden house. It wasn't the safest place, but it was the only shelter we had. My father had wen out to look for a safer place. My mother was a soothing pony. She sang to me and my brother, but then...the wood broke. All of us were swept apart. I landed on a tree, and I don't know where the rest of my family went. But I saw my brother, dead on the ground. I think I was the only one to survive. And that lead me to where I am now. I knew I couldn't give up, I knew my family was watching me in heaven, cheering me on." Rainbow sniffed, the memories coming back, "I was so alone."
Scootaloo turned around to see Rainbow Dash was sobbing.
"You and my friends are the only things I have left." Rainbow sniffed between sobs.
Scootaloo dashed up to Rainbow Dash and hugged her, "I-I'm so sorry!"
Rainbow Dash put a wing around her, "It's okay, little sister."
Scootaloo pricked her ears at the thought of having a sister.
"Big sister.." Scootaloo sobbed.
"Scootaloo, you will learn to fly, and you will have the strongest wings ever."
"Thank you, Rainbow Dash! Thank you so much!" Scootaloo cried.
"No Scootaloo." Rainbow pulled away, "Thank you.
Scootaloo cried again, "Bu-but why do you want me as a sister? I'm so useless!"
Rainbow Dash nuzzled the filly, "No. You're not. I couldn't have asked for a better sister. You're energetic, you have lots of potential, who cares if you can't fly? You're the bravest filly I've ever met." Rainbow Dash looked around then leaned in, "Between you and me, maybe even braver than me."
Scootaloo's eyes widened, "I love you, big sister."
Rainbow Dash closed her eyes, "I love you, too, little sister."
