Chapter one

A ordinary day

it was another ordinary Monday morning July 2007 at a military base camp in Pakistan. The war with the Taliban has started near to 3 years ago.

"clash" "wake up rise in shine" I rise my head in alarm to find out that’s its only my commanding officer captain Jackson Narville walking in to the tent well banging two tin garbage can lids together

"today is just a another ordinary day breakfast will be in 10 as usual, word from upfront is every things going as planned any questions?"shouting Narville

"no sir!"

"very well than get ready for the day! that means you James"wait why me! … o I guess I'm the only one still in bed and everybody else is standing at ease that’s not going to go very good start for today I'm not usually like this I'm nearly the first up every time. Something felt off today something definitely felt off but what? I just shrug it off as if it was nothing but I still have the felling in the back of my head that something real bad is going to happen I don’t know maybe I'm just paranoid today . I get dressed and make my way to the mess hall if you can call it that its only huge a tent with tables and benches anyway I'm heading along  with a two friends on the way.

"I'm getting sick of all those MRE's and I never even just any good ones" I exclaim

"well I find them decent but I get the breakfast ones at supper and the supper ones at breakfast" says Richard one of my close friends and one of my squad members

"well I cant believe we're still not in the front line" says Brian another one of my other close friend and again one of my squad members

"you would be saying the exact opposite if you were in the front line" says Richard

"o you want to bet?"

"ya I do 50$ first one to freak out or something like that losses"

"your so on James make sure he doesn't cheat"

"your one talk Brian" I say

"come on I thought you had my back on this" says Brian

"exactly you though" says Richard after a bit of walking we're at the mess hall

" feeding time at the zoo!" Brian jokingly says

"hay!"

I can hear someone yell all the way from across the huge tent all three of us see that’s its our hole squad waving us over. we make our over to them taking a seat on the bench in front of the table

" about time sleeping beauty got up!" says Reco followed by a hand full of chuckles

"now that has to be your worst joke you ever made reco"

I say with a light hearted tone "what ever" he replied the only one in my squad that will make a joke in a life threatening situation. of course this was not a vary good example plus he's all ways trying to be the captains pet but he's not vary good at that. I don’t think the caption even likes him  but he can be pretty funny wen he's not making jokes in the middle of  a war but his jokes are never all that great only evey now and than .

"you three forgetting  something?" says Narville after s few seconds or so of looking at him confused and than finally realizing that I forgot my food as did Brian and Richard. after getting some food we went back to the table and finished eating than it was morning drill it wasn't so bad but the sun was unbelievably hot today I got I few small sunburns but not that bad after that it was pretty much same old every day retain get up, have breakfast, morning drill, free time, go to your post, eat lunch, afternoon drill, back to your post, free time, supper time, and so on till your squad is sent off to help in the front line but something still felt off to day I cant put my finger on it but something didn’t feel right well we are going to the front line in a week and I I'm a tactician a good one at that but I haven't being in the field for some time now last time I was is nearly 3 years ago when this whole thing began. I was in a squad named Raven squad. Few hours have past now we just had lunch and now its afternoon drill still nothing out of the ouranary but it seemed all wrong I have no idea how it just is.

"form up!" Narville shouted so as expected we all did fist Brian and Richard then me to my right is Reco beside him is Mark, Shaun then Cooper, Isaac and finally Hunter Mark and Shaun only got hear from training camp three weeks ago so there pretty on edge for the whole thing I have being in the military for a long time.I look to my side to see Reco not paying any attention at all to Narvill who's talking about the squads role in the front line and a bit of a pep talk so I lightly kick him to get him to pay attention

"What?" says Reco in a whisper

"listen" I snarl at him

"I am"

"HAY no talking in ranks! do I have to rig" than a huge beam of light cuts him of mid sentence living the hole camp speechless there's nothing but dead silence for what felt like hours but it was only seconds of looking at this bright white oval shaped thing it was big enough for a hole house to fit through my train of though was interrupted by someone pulling the alarm suddenly every one ran for cover including me I found myself beside Narvill who was hiding behind a wall of sand bags than he said

"What the hell is that thing! and how did it get here!"

before I could respond  I noticed that tanks and jeep's with mounted 50 cals took there post and pointed at the big bright thing in the middle of the camp.

"COOPER! MOVE UP AND CHECK IT OUT!" Narvill screamed louder than it needed to be

"NO WAY SIR" he replied

"dam it" Narvill said under his breath he looks at me and says "it looks like its me and you James if you like it or not"

"yes sir"

we jump over the sand bags pointing our rifles at the objet slowly walking towards the thing .Ten steps way Narvill calls the rest of the squad over and one by one they pop up and make there way over here every one of them trembling in there boots. Reco was the last one to show up this actually brought a smile to my face but it was short lived as I see Narvill slowly reach for the white oval and touches it but his hand goes throw it casing him to fall down but he never hits the ground instead he vanishes in to thin air … on instinct I jump in after him why? I have no clue but I did. After that I find my self with a mouth full of dirt and grass after spiting it out I search for Narvill it was pretty easy all I had to do is look up. I see him standing in shock I find myself doing the same thing after realizing that I was in longer in the desert but standing on dirt and grass! not only that I was surrounded by apple trees that are in perfect alignment with one anther.

…"are... we on a... apple orchard?" I stutter.

"I believe so corporal" Narvill sad in answer to my question " "but how? I don’t know" he adds.

After a few minutes of not saying anything the silence was broken by all the rest of the squad and even a jeep bursting trough the portal I turn a round to see the rest of my squad face fist in the dirt and a jeep with mark in the drivers seat and an spazzed look on his face much like Navills wen we got here Richard had a rope tide to him and the other side was tide to the jeep so I decided to have some fun

"wow mark it looks like you seen an ghost" I say with a small chuckle

"more like a apple orchard?" reco said with much Confucian

"now why would that scare him"

"well... I don’t know" he replied.

after a talk about our little problem I finally ask "how did you guys end up here?"

"same way you did" said Reco

"you know that’s not what I meant" I retaliate

" well that’s a short story" said Brian

"mind filling me in?" I ask

"not at all"

"where the hell did they go!" said Brian

"I don’t know but I'm going in after him" says Richard

"you cant!" retaliates Isaac

"and why not!? your not stopping me! not this time" just before jumping in Hunter grabs Richards shoulder and says

" I'm not going to stop you but put this on first" handing him a rope "tie your self in so I can pull you out if anything happens just give it a good tug and we well pull you back in"

"ok ya I can do that"

after putting the rope on he's waist the rest of the squad gets ready to pull him out even tying the end to a jeep with mark in the drivers seat.

"everyone ready?" Isaac asks

"ya" they replied one by one "

ok go in" with that he did.

"so that how we got here" he finished

"and here is where?" asked Cooper

"excellent question Cooper" answered Narvill

"hay guys you might what to see this!" says mark

after walking over to him I finally realizing that we are on a hill over looking a barn and there where figures in the distant only they weren't human.

"uh twi what do you think that light up Thar is?" applejack said in a southern accent
