Nightmare Night. A holiday where little fillies and thier parents go trick-or-treating with thier bags full of candy, where ponies tell each other scary stories about Nightmare Moon returning on this very night, ponies dress up in costumes, Zecora says, so that Nightmare Moon wouldn't gobble them up, so to speak. And once a year, the ponies of Ponyville must give some of thier candy to Nightmare Moon herself, for just that reason.
But...Just like a little filly's first Nightmare Night ever, the same thing will happen to a young Colt, who knows next to nothing about Equestria at all.
But first, let's take a look at his life before coming to Equestria.

It was just him, wandering the streets at night, a young man, around the age of 14. His parents told him not to go out so late, but his curiosity got the best of him. He always wondered what lurked his neighbohood at night, so once his parents were asleep, he quietly snuck out. The boy wasn't that tall, wearing his signature red jacket, hat he always wore. The nights on his street were very cold. For the young boy named James, life wasn't going all too well. He had been getting poor grades on his schoolwork, always getting into trouble and often getting grounded for it. He still had a few friends, but most of them parted ways, or moved to another, far-away area. HE had a string of bad luck as well. HE nearly got struck by lightning when he went out in what seemed like just a normal rainstorm. When he was much much younger he almost drowned in the side of a pool that was just too deep for him. At the age of 10 he almost had his appendix taken out, because the doctors feared he had a very fatal disiese. He got sick during most of the winter and fall months. Very sick. Sometimes he'd wish he could just start a new fresh life. What he didin't know was that his wish was about to come true that night. In the form of a bright flash of light and something to make him fall asleep..

"Guh....My head" Muttered a young Colt who had just waken up from his nap, in the Everfree Forest. "I can tell t's gonna be one ofthose nights..." He said to no one in particular as he stood up on his hindlegs. Only to wobble and sumble back onto his backside again. "Ow! What the...' HE asked, rubbing his head. As he did he felt that his head seemed alot different from it's normal round shape. "That's strange...My head isn't usually shaped like--AUGH!!" He shouted in terror as he got a good look at his hand. Or hoof. "Hoof!? No hoof! That's not supposed to be there!" He exclaimed before looking over his body. 4 hooves, red fur, spikey red mane, WINGS!? This thought crossed his mind: "I'm a freakin' Pegasus!"
He spent the last couple of minutes figuring out how to trot like a Pony would. Not doing to bad, in fact.
"Okay...I've got the walking down. That's good. But it doesn't help me figure out how I turned into a Pony! Gah!" HE exclaimed, tripping over his hooves again. "Ow... "
A few minutes later, his was figuring out a way to get out of this forest. "Funny...I don't remember waking up in a forest....In fact I don't rememebr anythng but my name! Starwing! R-Right...? No...That wasn't....Arrgh, this is all too confusing!" HE exclaimed, rubbing his head again. He then just decided to go in a random direction. "I'm sure I'll find something if I just keep going straight this wa--Augh!" He exclamed, tripping over something. "Okay pal, what's the big idea, trippin' sombody like...." The Colt's rant was cut short as he got a look at what he tripped over.
It was the tail of a creature with the body of a Lion, tail of a Scorpion, and a pair of wings. In other words, a Manticore.
"Eep..." Was all the Colt couyld say before dashing off at full Gallop, the Manticore chasing right after him. "Damn! How I get myself in these kinds of messes is way beyond my thought!" He exclaimed, before lookign back at his Pegasus wings. "Come on you stupid wings, flap!" HE said, trying to get his wings to save him. As soon as he did, his wings straightened out upwards. "Woah! Cool! Now, fly!" HE exclaimed, flapping said wings as hard as he could. But the Manticore was getting closer!
"Come on! Flap harder!" HE exclaimed, as he kept galloping. Little did he know that he had already been lifted off the ground. "Woah...Woaaaah!" HE exclaimed, trying to gain controll of his flying. Once he did, he was crusing just above the trees. "Whooo! This is awsome! I'm flying!" He exclaimed, assuming a somewhat SuperPony pose while flying.
After a while of flying he started to see some dime lights in the distance. "A town? Finally!" He exclaimed, flying faster. He was right, it was a town! In the middle of some sort of festival! HE landed near the entrance of said village and trotted in, making sure his hat was still on his head.

Meanwhile a purple Unicorn dressed up in what seemed like some sort of magician outfit, along with a little purple Dragon in...a Dragon costume were making thier way through the town as well already making it to the festival. "Oh. We're here. So Spike, what should we do? Grab something to eat?" The Purple Unicorn asked, turning to look at Spike the dragon, who had already stuffed himself on too much candy. Suddenly, a Pink pony came trotting up to the both of them, followed by a few other fillies, carrying bags full of candy. "Oh! Twilight, look at our haul!" The Pink Pony, dressed up in a chicken costume exclaimed, rather excitedly before showing her candy off the the purple Unicorn. MEanwhie, above the Pink and purple ponies, hovered a dark thundercloud, where a pony, dressed up in a dark purple costume, somewhat like a superhero costume, was about to pull her prank. She struck the Thundercloud causing a bolt of lightning to come down behind the Pink Pony, scaring her, the fillies and the Dragon, who seemed to be either having a heart attack or chocking on a pice of candy. The purple ponie looked up at the cloud while the Pink ponie and her filly friends ran off in fear. "Rainbow Dash! Why'd you scare Pinkie Pie? And look at what you did to Spike!" She said to the PEgasus, who was laughing her but off up on that cloud.
"Come on, Twilight, loosen up! It's Nightmare Night, after all, I'm supposed to scare ponies" The Pegasus said. "Ooh! There' another group over there!" She exclaimed before pushing her cloud over to another group of ponies. The purple unicorn just sighed as her horn suddenly glowed and the dragon,who was now asleep or knocked out, onto her back and walked off elsewhere while another thunderbolt struck down near another unsuspecting group of ponies, while the Pegasus laughed and pushed her cloud elsewhere.

"Woah....Do I stand out like a sore thumb, her, hoof...I didn't even bring my costume." The Red Colt said to himself, looking around the festival, and seeing that everyone was dressed up. "Must be some sort of Halloween Festival, I guess" HE said, walking around. He then saw one of his most favorite party game ever. Bobbing for Apples. "No way! Awsome!" HE exclaimed heading over to the wooden tub full of water and apples. But as he approached the Tub, a grey colored Pony, with funny-looking eyes popped out of it, hlding not an apple, but the cork to the tub in her mouth! She then frowned a rather funny frown as the tub drained. "Awww....Every time..." The Red COlt muttered, as he walked away from the Tub.
After a while of exploring, he notised the ponies in Town square, bowing down to somepony. As he heading that way he found another pony, taller than him, with a dark purple-ish coat. While her,translucent mane flowed endlessly. Her expression though, seemed like one of frustration, as the oter ponies began shaking while bowing. "Dang...She must be evil or something....Wit hthat Tiara I'm guessing she's the queen? Ehehe...Evil Queen. Yep. Definatly stayin' outta this." HE said, hiding ins the shadow of a nearby building. "Something tells me this Festival is gonna take a turn for the worse..."
