Ten years after Blueblood's assassination, Equestria is but a shadow of what it once was. Corruption runs rampant as the Equestrian government tries to hold itself together, using a vast system of new laws and government agencies. But, in its desperation to keep the country together, it has declared war on its people.

Applejack is one such victim.

She has been arrested for protesting the nationalization of farms, but when the government finds out that she has an ability that has been declared to be dark magic by Celestia herself a thousand years ago, she is sentenced to the Frozen North to live out her days in a hard labor camp. During her stay, she finds an unlikely ally in the camp and is able to escape and goes on the run in search of her brother and sister with the full might of the Civilian Defense Agency and a shadow organization pursuing her. However, during her run, she finds out that Equestria is under threat from an enemy that has been waiting to break out of its chains for a thousand years. And she has been chosen to be the one to release it.

Takes place between Mare-Do-Well: Regeneration and Storm Cloud
