I stared out the window. Of course there had to be a funeral, a funeral for my mothers abusive stepfather. She had been rather unstable through out the entire affair. Then when mother had suggested to grand mother that she should go to a psychiatrist just

HOURS after the funeral, things went quickly down hill. They got into a heated argument, mother saying that grand mother had a mental sickness, just like my mom. She accused her, my grandmother, of having Bipolar disorder, something that my mother struggles with. Next thing we knew mother shoved grandma down onto the marble floor, resulting in a goose egg upon her head. Mother was manic, and then, without a single word, rushed out the door, and drove off to who knows where. She came back after three days of uncertainty. But the damage had been done. The trigger had been pulled. Every day in school I had one manic episode after the next, quickly flip-flopping into depression. It reached the point where I had got so angry I swept an entire table clear of all its contents. My psychiatrist was alarmed, and demanded I went to a mental hospital. I had no choice.

So here I am. Staring out the window in the mental hospital's cafeteria. I had no clue if I had made any friends here, but I'm not sure if I wanted to. All the time I had these conflicting feelings, shifting from fury to confusion. I hated everything. I looked back to my food, not hungry at all. I grumbled in frustration. Why can't they afford better food? Well, the hospital wasn't all that bad. They had a nice recreational area out doors, where we got to play basketball, which is something I'm horrendous at, and a swing set, much to my amusement. I quite enjoyed the swing set; it was nice to feel like you are flying through the air.

I froze up. I heard something. A whisper. Taunting me.

You're no good. You're a horrible person. Why do you continue to resist?

I grit my teeth, not wanting to deal with this.

That's all you're going to do? What a spineless piece of-

"Adam! Hey, you alright?!" A voice called from in front of me.

I looked up from my food, and looked at Jamie. He was one of the more stable guys I had to live with.

"I'm fine! Just thinking, was all." I answered

"Thinking about what?" Jamie asked..

"About what I'll eat when I get out of here." I said, cracking a smile. I must have been a good one, seeing as to how Jamie went accepted it.

"All right, just thought you were hearing voices again" replied Jamie.

"Ha! I haven't been  hearing voices since two days ago! That medicine sure has been working!" I gleefully laughed. In truth, that medicine had been doing nothing, but I wasn't going to let the psychiatrists and the nurses know that. I wanted to get the hell out of here as soon as possible. I refused to stay here.

"Good for you, my medicine hasn't been working for me. Guess I'm just snake-bit when it comes to medication." Jamie shrugged.

"I'm sure you'll get a medication that works for you soon enough!" I answered with fake cheer.

"LISTEN UP EVERYONE! WE'RE HEADING BACK TO THE WARD! EVERYONE LINE UP SINGLE FILE!" Shouted one of the nurses.

Sighing, I got up. I wasn't looking forward to going back. That mean't we'ed be going to sleep. And my room mate wasn't a particularly stable person. We got into argument about what temperature we should set the ac unit to, and he got up in my face with a threatening glare. Probably didn't help that I knew his history. He had been criminally insane ever since he had been born, or so I've been told. He would get into fights all the time, stabbing people and what not. I wanted to make a request to get a new room mate but I was too nervous about how he would react. I sighed again, lined up, and walked forward, head down.

I walked into my room, tired. It had been a long day. I reached up and clenched my hair. There he was. Staring at me, mocking me. Tall, dressed in a fancy suit, a blue tie wrapped around his neck, his face showing pure malice. I stared at him. He stared back.

"Screw off."

Why should I? All I want you to do is end it all, that way we can all be happy. They won't be able to bother you if you do it. Just find a way, and you will be free

"No"

Fine then, suffer even more. It's your choice. With that, he vanished, leaving me alone in the room. I sat down on my bed, tired. I froze up. There was a loud CRACK! That came from the small restroom in the room's bathroom.

"No... god no."

"Yes, oh yes" Out of the bathroom, carrying a shard of broken mirror, was the criminally insane Caleb. I ran for the door, desperately turning the door knob. Of course it was locked. I turned around, to see Caleb approaching me with a signature slasher smile.

I started screaming.

"OH GOD SOMEONE GET OVER HERE AND HELP ME!! CALEB'S GOT A WEAPON AND IT LOOKS LIKE HE WANTS TO KILL ME! FOR GOD'S SAKE SOMEONE! ANYONE!" I screamed.

I could hear running down the hallway. Caleb slowly advanced, running his finger up and down the makeshift weapon.

"I'm going to enjoy this!"

No. I'm not going down like this! I ran forward and tackled him, surprise evident on his face. That expression quickly shifted to rage, and he threw me off of him. He rushed forward and stabbed me in the ribs.

I cried out in agony, and watched as he raised the shard of glass again, and began to repeatedly stab me.

God, forgive me for all that I've done. Was all I could think before Caleb decided to grab me by my head, and paused, just to show where he intended to stab me. With a quick flick, he rushed the mirror shard into my eye. Everything stopped. I was gone.

I awoke, lying in a field of grass, somewhere in a forest. I looked about, confused. What had just happened? Then everything came flooding back into me. I sobbed. Reaching down, I felt for the holes in my chest, but much to my surprise, there were none.

"Where the hell am I?"

And then I heard it. A whisper. A pleading, almost pitiful whisper.

Welcome, to Equestria, young one. It is time, that you herald our return. As a show of good faith...

Suddenly I felt a rush through out my body. It was... euphoric! I felt like a god!

We have given you a portion of our power. Do our bidding, and you shall granted more.

I got up from my feet, brushed my self off.

"What do you need me to do?"

Follow our telepathic link, we will lead you to our resting place.

"Hold up, why am I helping you? Why have you picked me?"

We choose you, for we need a being of another reality, untainted by this reality's essence.

"What do you  mean, untainted? Are you saying that I'm some pure being? Because I can assure you I am NOT a perfect being"

Your mentality is what we consider... acceptable.

"Fine, but, who are you?"

Just call us the nightmare.

I froze.

"Wait, you expect me to help you when you sound like some sort of children's show cartoon villain? And whats in it for me if I do help you?"

Where you not listening? You do our bidding, and we will grant you more power. It's very simple.

"It isn't to me"

Do we need to give you more energy? Will that convince you to aid us in our plight?

"I'm not sure I would like tha-" I stopped, and collapsed onto the forest floor, writhing in pain.

YOU. WILL. DO. OUR. BIDDING!

"Fine! FINE! Just make it stop!" I cried out. The pain ended. "Actually, here's something that will convince me to help you. Cure me of my illness"

We shall, but only after you have fulfilled our requests.

"Very well."

Now, follow our link, and we will take you to our residence. Also, be quiet.

I complied. Eventually, after several hours of wandering about following the nightmare's voice. Before me stood a tall, crumbling castle. I stared up at it in awe. I had never seen anything like it before.

This is the castle of the twin sisters, our previous host lived here.

"That's great and all, but what do you need me to do here?" I asked

Enter the castle, then head to the library, we will lead you there.

I went along, following the link. There was just one nagging question in my head.

" There's something I would like to know."

What is it?

"Who or what are this reality's inhabitants?"

Ponies.

The answer resulted in my letting out a loud laugh.

"REALLY? PONIES?!"

Quite your laughing, we've never seen a being like you before.

"Heh. Okay, okay."

I reached the library, and stood slack jawed at the sheer size of the library.

"Damn." Was all I could say.

Quite, follow the link.

I obeyed, and continued to follow the link. I eventually made my way to an opening, where the moon shone down upon a circular indention on the floor.

Step into the circle, and you will receive the power necessitated to return us back to the world.

With an uncertain look, I stepped into the circle.

The instant I was in the center of the circle, shadows burst from the ground, and wrapped around me. An intense pain began to   course through my veins. A great cold began to sink straight into my bones. I collapsed to the floor. Then everything came to a stand still. And everything became clear. I began to laugh madly. The pain, the cold, they turned into pleasant feelings.

Eventually, much to my disappointment, the surge ended. I got up from the floor.

"Now what?"

You will head to the nearby town of Ponyville, where we teach you how to use the powers we have given you.

"Yeah... Exactly what ARE my powers?"

We will tell you when you arrive in the town. We want you to create... a quite destructive introduction. The whole of Equis will know we have returned. And you will be our host.

"Here's my question though, what do you mean, host? If you plan on taking control over me, then you'll be sorry to know that I'll probably end up killing myself, you got that?"

We understand. We are not a parasite, rather, we work in a symbiotic relationship with our host.

"Good. So, I guess I better make my way to this little town then. Remember, the only reason I'm doing this is to be cured."

We will fulfill our end of the bargain, as long as you fulfill our requests.

"Excellent." I said with a feral grin.

Now, get moving.

With that, I made my way out of the castle. Whereas before I was dependent on the nightmare's direction, I could sense the nearby location of this sad little town, completely unaware of my presence, as should be expected.

"Time to go."
