The Story of Mistress Marevolous
I bared my teeth and raised my lasso. This crook wouldn't get away from me. He looked smug, though, as if a superhero wasn't something to be afraid of.
I threw my lasso. The stallion tried to dodge it, but it didn't miss. It rarely missed, since I could control its every move.
I'm Mistress Marevolous. The only superpony in Maretropolis. Keeping the city safe, one bank robber at a time.
The stallion squirmed as he tried to break free.
"Don't try," I snarled. The stallion looked at me as if I was crazy. "Resistance is futile." With my mind, I made the lasso constrict tighter around him.
"Who are you?" A voice behind me asked. Thunder crackled. I turned around to see four mares in costumes standing behind me.
"I," I said coldly, "am Mistress Marevolous. The only superhero in Maretropolis." One of the mares, a green one in a white and pink body suit, dashed up to me in a blur of light.
"I'm Fili-Second!" She exclaimed. "I'm a superpony too!" I stared at her, my hard expression turning to one of shock.
"You can't be."
"Can." Another mare stepped forward. She was a Unicorn with a yellow coat and a curled blue mane. "We all are. I am Radiance, and these are Zapp and Saddle Rager." The remaining mares, both Pegasi, waved.
"How have I not known about you?" I asked.
"He's getting away!" Saddle Rager interrupted, alarmed. I turned around to see she was right. I mentally cursed for getting distracted.
"If you're superheroes, help me catch him!" I cried as I broke into a gallop. The others followed me, except Fili-Second, who shot ahead of us. She blocked off the stallion's escape route as the rest of us closed in. I began to levitate my rope towards him, but Zapp interrupted, throwing a lightning bolt at him. The stallion dodged.
"Ha!" He gloated. I told my eyes at his "victory." I threw my lasso around him and tightened it.
"Pretty short lived excitement," I remarked with a smirk. A glowing pink rope joined mine around him. I turned to see it was the work of Radiance.
"Reinforcement," she explained when she saw my stare. I looked at them all.
"Who are you? Where did you come from?" I asked.
"We're all from Maretropolis," Fili-Second explained. "Except Saddle Rager. She's from out of town." I looked at her with a cold stare.
"Listen, this is my city to protect," I told them. "Go find some other place to save the day."
"Are you going to stop us from doing good?" Zapp challenged. I glared at her.
"This is my city," I repeated. Before we could argue any further, my Crime Alert beeped.
"What was that?" Saddle Rager asked.
"My Crime Alert," I explained as I pulled it out to check it. "It shows me where there's crime." Everypony gathered around me as I checked it.
"There's suspicious activity right outside Maretropolis," I announced. "I have work to do. Make sure this guy's tied up." I began to gallop away.
"Wait!" Fili-Second was suddenly at my side. "Let us come with you!"
"We are coming, regardless of what you say," Zapp told me. I knew they wouldn't take no for an answer, and arguing would just take more time.
"Fine!" I grumbled. "But stay out of my way!"
"We will," Radiance promised as we began to run.

When we arrived, we were at an old shed.
"Watch this!" Zapp whispered. She made lighting strike the top of the shed. We climbed up and peered inside.
A purple mare with crazy green hair stood over a young pink Unicorn. She looked about a year younger than me.
"You'll never get away with this, Mane-iac!" The Unicorn shouted. So cliche.
I dropped into the room. "She's right. Give up!" The mare laughed.
"You dare to challenge the Mane-iac?" She asked tauntingly.
"What a lame name!" Zapp's voice came as another bolt of lightning struck the roof. The other four dropped inside. The Mane-iac laughed like a, well, a maniac.
"Just try and stop me!" She reached out with her hair and pulled a switch. The Unicorn grimaced.
"I'm sucking all her superpowers out this very second!" The Mane-iac boasted. She suddenly grabbed Zapp, Radiance, and I in her hair. I squirmed against her, trying to escape. I was not supposed to be captured!
"Think again!" Fili-Second shouted, zooming over to the lever and flipping it back. The Unicorn looked more relaxed.
"Thanks!" She shouted. Fili-Second then smashed the control panel.
"Let my friends go!" She shouted at the Mane-iac. I watched the Mane-iac pick up Fili-Second in one quick swoop.
"Saddle Rager! Help us!" I shouted. The Mane-iac tightened her grip on us. "Help us!" Saddle Rager's yellow eyes narrowed.
"Stop hurting them," she commanded. Was it just me, or did she grew a few inches?
"Or what?" The Mane-iac asked with an insane smile.
"You don't want to see me when I'm angry!" Saddle Rager warned. Okay, she had definitely grown. Her costume was starting to rip apart as she grew.
As Saddle Rager grew, I noticed the Unicorn ignite her horn. She fired a fiery beam towards the Mane-iac. The Mane-iac winced as the flames struck her.
"What are you doing? You should be drained of power!" She shouted. By now, Saddle Rager had grown to over three times her size.
"LET GO OF MY FRIENDS!" She yelled, grabbing the Mane-iac and shaking her. The startled villain dropped me on the floor, along with the other three.
"Let go, Saddle Rager!" I yelled to her. She did so, and I threw my lasso over the Mane-iac's hair. Even as I tightened, her hair fought my lasso. She suddenly broke free and ran out of the shed.
"I'll be back!" She yelled. "I will destroy you all!"
"Let's go get her!" I directed my fellow superponies.
"Let her go, Mistress Marevolous," Radiance told me, setting a hoof on my shoulder.
"She has a team of Power Ponies waiting for her!" Fili-Second added.
I turned around.
"I guess... I guess we could be a team," I admitted. Saddle Rager had returned to her original size and freed the Unicorn.
"Thanks guys!" She exclaimed. "I thought I could take her on my own, but she was too strong. I'm Maple Matter, by the way."
"I'm Mistress Marevolous," I told her. "Wanna join my team?"
"Really?" She asked.
"Sure!" Zapp agreed. "You just need a good superhero name!"
"I could make her outfit and a mask," Radiance suggested. "Then she could be... The Masked Matter Horn!"
"That sounds great!" Maple exclaimed. "I can't wait to help you all! What's our team called?" The six of us all looked at each other. The answer seemed to flash through us.
"The Power Ponies!" We exclaimed in unison.
