The Midnight Mystery
Where to start... (The Beginning)
Load Full StoryFor Castor Vailde, tonight went like any other. He got up, and got ready for night weather duty. In order to do this job, you had to be nocturnal. He mainly just had to move any (if there were) clouds out of Ponyville and Canterlot, to the outskirts. After that, he was free to do whatever. Due to his recently found habit, he brought a regular, non-stormy cloud to the middle of Canterlot. He then proceeded to listen to Princess Luna, co-ruler of Equestria, sing as she guided along small fillies away into the clouds. She has quite the beautiful singing voice. He thought.I wonder why she doesn't sing in public. I'm sure everyone would love it. The night was perfect. A light breeze, a full moon, comfortable position on the cloud, now he just had to wait for the 'mane course' (Pardon my humor) her mane was quite beautiful to look at.

Tonight was perfect. Not a cloud in the sky, (except for the one that Pegasus Sat on, always listening to her sing.) There was a nice, delicate breeze and the moon was full. She then started singing,
"Come little children, I'll take the away,"
She took a quick breath.
"Into a land of enchantment." She then began her spell for young fillies to wake up and follow her into the moonlight. She was a about to sing the next line, when she realized the children were not following her. Nor waking up.Well that's strange, she thought. they'd usually be out by now. Little did the Princess of the Night know, somepony else was behind all this.
She decided to stop singing, and look where the kids were. Surly they didn't not like her, and force her out of their minds! She first went to the Orphanage. She looked in the room where the three fillies slept, but they weren't there. She then went to the cardboard box where the abandoned little colt slept. Not there either. This is really strange. She thought. I'd expect that at least somepony was asleep other than the adults. She continued her search, silently going from house to house, finding no fillies whatsoever.

Castor was quite confused. One moment the princess was singing, the next was silence. Perhaps she had been kidnapped! Nah. She could hold up on her own. Someone threw a brick at her! Would've heard a thud. She stopped singing? That made sense. No other ponies were visibly around. But why would she stop singing? She's done it every full moon for the past year!
It was time that he found out what was the reason behind the princess stopping. He also noticed no fillies on the ground. He went aimlessly wandering around, hoping to find a kid, (or maybe Luna, because any further craziness would make other ponies call him a 'lunatic'.So they both spent a good half hour doing so, bypassing each other without another glance, not realizing that they were actually there doing the exact same thing. They ended up lightly head-butting since their heads were aimed downwards. Castor was the first to look up. "I'm so sorry princess! I didn't mean to hurt you!" He said, scared what she might do.
"It's okay. What are you doing out this late at night?" He bit his lower lip. There were two reasons. He could tell both, or just one.
"I have night weather shift for Ponyville and Canterlot. For that I must be nocturnal. Also..." He paused. Should he really tell her? You know what? YOLO "I love listening to you sing every full moon. It's... quite beautiful." She smiled and blushed lightly.
"Is that why there's always a cloud in he middle of Canterlot. I was beginning to think you were partially neglecting your job." She joked.
"So what are you doing out here. Besides the whole singing thing."
"I'm looking for the children. They don't seem to be following me today."
"Funny, so am I. Minus the following me thing of course. I got the idea you stopped singing for a reason. I also noticed no little fillies. Would you like some help/company while you look for the children?"
"I think I'd like that, yes. Now where should we start off looking. I already checked the orphanage, and the cardboard lean-to but none of the fillies were there."
"Maybe the last place you would ever thing looking in Canterlot."
"Shall we get started then?"
"Of course! Times a ticking." And with that, they went looking for the kids in the oddest places. Bars, wine cellars, the castle gardens, no luck anywhere. It was very confusing and frustrating. In the bars, they only found drunk, hallucinating ponies. In the wine cellars, they found cobwebs and well, bottles of wine. In the castle gardens, they found what ways expected. Gardeners, trending t all the exotic plants. They still hadn't checked Ponyville. They again took the same process, but still no fillies. The clock read 10 p.m. sharp. "My goodness! I'm sorry princess but I gotta quick go eat lunch. If you'd like more help, I'll be back in ten to fifteen minutes. She only nodded as Castor flew off to his house in the clouds to eat his lunch.
True to his word, Castor returned in fifteen minutes to find the princess snacking on an Apple. "Where did you..." She looked over at him. "Uh... never mind." He said, feeling very awkward for asking that. You idiot! What so you expect?! She's the Princess for Pete's sake. She can get her hooves on just about anything. He felt like hitting himself for even starting that question. "Shall we get a move on?" She now had finished, and disposed of her Apple without him even seeing her move an inch.
"Well, like you said, Times a ticking." She said. So they headed off for the rest of the places they hadn't looked to find the fillies.
