The First Entry, Or How To Not Visit Someone
I’m a Bat horse.
What? I’m not good with explaining things really, the best I can say is the obvious, most of the times anyway, and the obvious thing right now is that I’m not human anymore, I was, I think, some time ago? I can remember, but it’s the same way you remember your childhood, just those important memories, with a haze that makes clarity impossible to attain.
I still remember my name, at least that, Alexander Martes, a dood, just like any other doods.Did I die? I don’t think so, I went to sleep, don’t remember waking after that, or well, not human that is.Maybe this is all a dream you say, not really.I’ve had lucid dreams before, and never I had a dream that I became something else entirely different from a human.I don’t think you can dream of being a creature that has joints that move completely different from your own, and wings.I don’t think there’s any mammal on earth with six limbs, especially not one that is both horse and bat.
Also, I’ve never felt hunger on my dreams, not the persistent that gets sated when I eat. That also surprised me, I can eat meat, and I don’t feel weird when I hunt something, I thought I would, being a horse entails being herbivore. Not here apparently, I can eat meat fine, and also do thing with my hoofs that I’m sure no horse can do, like holding objects, or finely manipulating stone and flint to create fire.
Yeah, my stay here till now has been one of the strangest ones, and I thought about maybe making a Diary or Journa lof sorts, depends if I write on it daily or not.Right now, I am in a small town, no spoilers for where however.Let’s just say that I found civilization, and that I’m going to write down what I can remember from before, and what will happen in the future. So yeah, let’s get with this journal thing.
How was my first few days? hmm well…
I can remember waking up on a cold floor.
Trying to move felt weird, too weird.I thought I had drank something last night, but my memory was too sharp to have been influenced by alcohol.I tried to get up, and succeeded, but with the minor setback of being on all fours.I tried looking to my own body, and well, got a minor case of panic when I noticed that I had a barrel chest of cobalt blue fur instead of, you know, the shirt I went to sleep on.
Took maybe ten minutes until I finally concluded that Yes this is my body and Yes you are a bat horse, but I can say that I’ve never had any experience that could relate, surely as I’ve said I’ve had very lucid dreams before, but none that literally transformed me in a quadruped.I’ve been the odd anthro, but all the times I’ve been something not human they at least were humanoid.
To become another species entirely, yeah that took some time to get used to… well I’m still not completely used to it, flying is quite difficult, I can tell you that.
So, first day, after deciding that I wasn’t dreaming - through a series of tests, like hitting my head against the ground - I decided to walk.Easier said than done, but at least I didn’t fall on my face, letting your own body do it’s work is wonderful isn’t it? instead of manually overriding my system to move each limb on its own I just though Walk there and bam! to there I walked, although stumbling and cursing on the way.
So, I was inside a cave.A spacious one at that, no signals of life inside it, good, at least I had shelter for the night. The outside was a forest of sorts, very dark, very spooky, probably filled with things that wanted to kill me on sight. What? I’m not going to go out there and win a Darwin Award. If I’m going out I need to know what this body can do, and what a best way that to try it myself?
Wings, means I can probably fly. How? no damn idea, and I’m not trying until I can have something to stop me falling, or having an injury.Body is rather flexible, joints can bend in ways that I’m pretty sure that they shouldn’t, eyes are good for seeing in the dark, cause the entire cave has no light, save from the moonlight from the outside, and I can see inside it no problem.Ears? well, I’m hearing stuff, only will know when something happens.I also have hooves, how durable are they? can I hit stuff and break it with them and not feel pain? can I buck? Yep, and probably can knockout something my size with that move.
Body is dark colored, a Cobalt blue, the hair… mane? is an ashen gray with streaks of gold.Weird color, wouldn’t encounter it on a horse back on earth.Yeah, I’m a bat horse, this isn’t earth, of that I’m pretty sure.
Spent half an hour just walking and running, or is it trotting? galloping? strutting? matters not, I just tried to move my body in every way possible.Good to know what I can do before going out right?
So, with that I set out from my little cave, tension inside me just waiting to release in a flight or fight situation.
Luckily for me, It appears that the night on this forest makes me impossible to be seen, because there were a few times that I passed nearby other animals and living beings, and none of them paid that much attention to me.Good, really.
Hunger and thirst were the next two things I needed to take care of.First was water, I can survive without food for some time, without water I don’t think I would last a week.A small stream, not too far away from my cave was quite promising.Clean water, nothing that looked bad on it, I could even see the bottom of the small stream! I just needed to be sure, so instead of plunging headfirst on the water I waited for another animal to do it.
Two reasons, if the water is good, the animals will drink from it.Streams with rocks like these, round ones, well polished, don’t appear from nowhere, so if some animal drinks from it, well, it’s safer than one that no animal drinks from.
The other reason is that there would be an animal, just waiting for me to sink my fangs on it.
Yea, I had fangs, noticed it when I ran my tongue - and let me say this right here, what a weird tongue - on them. Two rather thin, long - needle like - fangs, didn’t come out of my mouth, muzzle, whatever. Also, I didn’t feel revulsion by thinking about eating meat.If my body felt weird by just thinking about it I would’ve thought about not eating animal protein, but since I’ve not felt anything, it’s worth the shot.
Took some time, but a small squirrel came nearby, and drunk blissfully unaware of me from the stream.Yea, scored him quick, didn’t think that my body would move on such way, I felt more like a predator than prey right then, more like a carnivore than a herbivore, or omnivore, for that matter.
Back to my cave, I ate my morsel of food, curled myself and went to sleep.
Or well, tried to, I kept thinking about a lot of things, such as Am I going back home? and Where am I?, things like that, existential questions, let’s say that those things will be answered in the future.
The next few days were better than the first one.My uncanny abilty to move unseen helped me attain food and keep away from any aggressive animal. To my surprise those hoofs of mine are more like hands than I’ve thought. There’s this weird feeling of attachment and pressure when I move them over stuff, I can actually grab with the flat of it, and precisely manipulate objects with them.
To summarize, my hoofs are hands, but with another format.
Fire.Fire was rather easy to come by, with an entire forest of wood, you can easily attain stuff to burn.Flint could be found on the gravelly soil, and stone and flint create spark - ergo - fire. What was hard was to find a way to carry around a torch, although I don’t feel like I would need one, but sometimes the clouds would cover the moon, and even with my good night vision I would still have problems seeing stuff, and I can’t have that with what I noticed lurking on the shadows of the forest.
Yeah, there are weird creatures around here.Stuff like wooden wolfs, chicken lizard things, manticores, hydras, gigantic centipedes, spiders, I think I’ve even seen some sort of bug horse thing, but that one I didn’t get near, there was this sense of unease when I got near them.
So yeah, fire, probably carrying a torch then would’ve been a good idea, but meh, don’t want to burn my hoofsies, nor my mouth. So I settled on being ninja bat horse, unseen and not seeing stuff.Best type of horse really.
Things changed when I noticed civilisation.
I have no friggin idea how I didn’t notice civilisation before.Maybe because I’ve not moved far from my cave, maybe because I usually moved around nighttime, and slept through the day, well, it didn’t matter then, and not now as well.
My first sight of civilisation was of a small village, or town really.Small houses, thatched hoofs, very colorful, even from the distance that I was,I decided then to move around on it.Why not? it was night, no one was around, and apparently I could move unseen. No foliage and underbrush to hide in though, so I had to be carefull.
Of what I could see, it was a small settlement, had a few key buildings, such as a hall, library, clothes shop, food shop, forge and marketplace.I was quite happy to see the library, maybe I could finally learn where I was?
The door was unlocked, so I didn’t have to do any shenanigans to get inside.Once inside, I heard the telltale sound of people sleeping: snoring.Rather loud as well, so I decided to do something dumb.
I decided to see how these people looked.
How much of a surprise to see that they looked like me, small horses. The one that was sleeping was purple, or a shade of pink, wasn’t sure then because of the low light. On a small basket was something, and by the sound of it, it was what was snoring.Maybe a pet? a dog? it didn’t matter then.I had books to read.
The low lighting made it rather tiresome, but at least I got what I came here for.Information, and oooh boy, what a load of information.
Firstly, I was in Equestria, world’s named Earth, how convenient? the race I was is named the common pony, or just pony really.Divided in in three common tribes, Pegasi, Unicorn and Earth Pony.Common pony is the most, well, common. There are Crystal Ponies and Thestrals as well, and I’m one of the thestral type, bat ponies, if you wish.
Economy, important.Their currency is called bits, small golden coins with a valor pressed on it’s sides, small amounts of a specific identification magic inside them makes them impossible to be counterfeit.
Politics, their country is ruled by two sisters, who both represent the day and night.Celestia and Luna, Sun and Moon, Day and Night. Why do I have the impression that I have some sort of connection with Princess Luna? who knows.
Finally, flight. What? if you had wings you would want to know how to fly too.The book I got was all about pegasi with normal wings, but I guessed then that it wouldn’t be too much of a difference, and there would be no need for preening and maintaining my feathers on a good shape, since I had none.
Finished reading when the Sun was coming up, went back to my home cave for sleep.
Didn’t notice the Purple Unicorn in a state of shock looking at where I was before I left.
