Fallout Equestria: I Forgot to Remember
Chapter 1
Previous ChapterNext Chapter...I jumped up into a sitting position, groaning as the pain in my lungs grew. I looked around the room as my eyes adjusted to the dim light. It was an old run down apartment in what I assumed to be Canterlot, given the faded paintings on the wall and the overall look to the decor. Along with the usual furnishings I saw medical equipment and a small portable terminal. I tried to stand but the ache in my joints and the pain in my lungs wouldn't allow me to. I felt a weight on my left arm and looked down to see a personal computer strapped to it. Also known as a Pip-Buck. I opened to the Status/CND screen and looked over my 'wounds'. Minor radiation and 'Pink Cloud Poisoning'. Whatever that is it isn't good for my lungs...
"Oh wunderbar you're awake!" I nearly gave myself whiplash turning to the voice behind me. Somehow I didn't notice the gryphon standing behind me. I tried to respond but instead I just coughed blood all over the floor. Fan-fucking-tastic. The gryphon helped my to my hooves. She was wearing a doctor's coat of some kind with a symbol that stood out to me for some reason... three pink butterflies...
"You alright?" I coughed more blood, mostly on her chest. "I assume that's a yes?" She chuckled "Sorry, that's inappropriate. The Pink Cloud should be flushed from your system in a few hours at the most. Hopefully...this cure is still in testing..." 'Cure in testing'? Yeah. That's reassuring. I coughed a few more times and cleared my throat.
"Thank you, I suppose..." my voice was raspy and low, like someone who smoked like a chimney their entire life. The gryphon handed me a glass of slightly brown water that I grabbed and chugged involuntarily. She took the glass back and smiled.
"I'm Medic, from the writing on your armor I can assume you are Queenston Winter?" I nodded, strangly remembering that my name was, in fact, Spymaster Queenston Embara Winter. Huh. Other than that I can't really remember anything else... I responded, trying not to sound rude, being that I was just kind of staring at her.
"Pleased to meet you...uh Medic... Thanks for, I guess saving me? Could you actually tell me were you found me? And what's this 'Pink Cloud'?" I sat on the couch and she took a seat on a dirty recliner.
"I found you on the road to the Palace. Goddesses know what you were doing there, so I pulled you out of The Cloud and brought you back here, being that you were a perfect candidate for my 'cure' for the Pink Cloud." she paused, presumably thinking of an answer for my second question. "As for the Pink Cloud...no one really knows. All the Followers know about it is that if inhaled or if it comes into contact with open wounds it floods the entire body, slowly turning the 'host', so to speak, into what we call a Canterlot Ghoul...." She paused and looked at me. She then continued explaining, noticing my confused face. "A ghoul is a...someone who has been irradiated an unholy amount and haven't had the good fortune to die...as far as I know most are still able to reason but some...well, some have gone feral and attack anyone on sight..." she grimaced, obviously uncomfortable about the subject. She went to her computer and began typing.
I continued to fiddle with my Pip-Buck. I opened the 'Items' menu and went to apparel. The only slot with stuff in it other than Misc. There were four items, Lunar Ranger Armour, Moonstone Wedding Band, Mother's Locket, and a Breathing Mask. I looked at my right hoof and sure enough, there was a grayish band around it. Around my neck was the breathing mask and the locket. Inside was a picture of a mare and what I could only assume was a dragon. I shrugged and opened the Misc tab and it said that I had a Spellbook, a Keyring, and two Air Filters. I looked in the pockets of the trench coat, part of the 'Lunar Rangers Armour' and as I thought, I had all those things in them, except the Keyring was clipped to my belt. I went through a couple other menus, according to the General tab on the Status/CND screen I had 'Neutral Karma'. Ignoring that, I went to the info screen. World Map was automatically open. I was currently at 'Medic's Canterlot Hideout' and pretty close to The Royal Palace. I stood up and went to 'Medic'.
"Did I..have anything else with me? I feel kind of...bare..." She spun her swivel-chair around to face me.
"Yes, actually, but I couldn't hold my breath for long enough to grab it. A big duffle bag and a sniper rifle if I remember correctly, this was a few days ago..."
"Is it possible for me to get it?" I questioned her, she sighed and rose from the chair.
"Probably not, I'm afraid. It was in a very dense pocket of the cloud and I do not currently have enough of the Cure to save you a second time..." She went back to typing. I returned to the couch and opened the radio tab on my Pip-Buck and selected the first station, 'Galaxy News Radio'. A gruff voice of a stallion came through the Pip-Buck's speaker.
"Helloooo Equestrian Wasteland! It's me, DJ-Pon3 bringing you a bit news! Now, children, you all know about the Stables, right? Oh course you do. Now there has been reports of a two mares leaving Stable 2 in the past few days and it seems that Dweller #2 has cleared the entirety of the Ponyville Raider outpost. Good on ya Stable Dweller. In other news, the slave caravan and notorious dickbags, the Bloodmoon Slavers, took over another shanty town. I'll say what I did yesterday, he Regulators and paying loads of caps to anyone who can bring them the head of their leader. I'd like to see her brought down, too many good ponies were lost because of that bitch. And now, here's a little tune I've got stuck in my head..." The voice faded and a very upbeat song about Whisky began playing. Medic started humming along to it. I let myself drift back to unconsciousness.
I woke up to find that Medic had left a note for me.
'I went out for a shopping trip, be back soon. ~Medic'
Well then, might as well go out as well. I rose from the couch and opened the door of the apartment. The building was, bluntly, a pile of shit. Furniture broken and charred, wallpaper ripped and faded, pictures ruined or had some offensive drawings on them. A over Medic's door was a Clinic sign that probably once belonged to an actual clinic. I went down a flight of stairs to the main entrance and opened the double doors outside to the city.
"What the fu..." My heart sank. This is not how I remember Canterlot... Even in the fuzziness of that memory. It's supposed to be a big bustling happy place, not a pile of rubble and...skeletons...I walked down a random street. Everywhere I looked, there were skeletons. Some charred, some broken, some wrapped around each other and more lying on benches. I blinked and all of the skeletons turned into to...ponies? They were...walking around, not even acknowledging that I was there. One came close to me and disappeared...along with the rest of the living ponies. The skeletons returned....I decided to fuck it and went back to the 'Clinic'. I fell onto the couch and tried to sleep...
