//-------------------------------------------------------// Broken Melody -by MissDirection- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue Melody felt the presence before she saw it. It had been six years since Celestia had banished Luna to the moon. Melody Choir was the youngest of the royal sisters and the princess of sound. She controlled every little peep you heard during both the night and the day. She was a white alicorn with a sparkling turquoise mane and dark green eyes.  Melody looked up from her book at the balcony doors, from which silvery moonlight was flowing into her room. But in the middle of her room a strange blue fog was hanging just above a decorative saddle Arabian rug. Melody remembered seeing this sort of smog flowing around her older sister as she was transformed into Nightmare moon.  Quietly she closed her book and stood up from the pillow she had been sitting on. She backed up until she was standing in front of her door. She then sat back down and lit her horn with luminous green magic and began slowly pulling back the expensive rug, to reveal a large uncompleted spell nexus.  The cloud seemed to notice the runes and began to shift restlessly, swirling around and trying to worm its way closer to the young princess. Melody used her magic to write new runes and complete the nexus. But as she was preparing to etch the last symbol into the stone, the cloud spoke. “Oh we wouldn’t do that if we were you.” It hissed. The voices sounded like somepony had let the air out of a tire. “What, who… who are you? What are you?” asked Melody her eyes growing wide in shock. “Oh little princess, you should recognize us. We were there when your sister fell. As to who we are, well we are the spirits of darkness. Our names are doubt, panic, jealousy, anger, sadness, and spite. Jealousy over took the moon princess. Now it is your turn.” Said the voices. “No! I will not fall to you! I won’t end up like my sister!” Melody shouted at the cloud. “Who said that you would end up like her? Jealousy is one of the lesser spirits. With the stronger of us combined, nopony can stop us!" “I know I will end up like Luna. No matter how much power I have it will be no match for the elements of harmony.” Said Melody, a little more confident in her words. “You represent three of us. You doubt that Celestia did the right thing in banishing Luna. You’re sad that you won’t see Luna for a millennium. And you’re spiteful about your sisters hitting you with elements when you were trying to save discord.” The voices said the last one in a very smug tone. Melody bit her lip. The voices were right. She didn’t mean to fall in love. It just happened. She thought discord was funny and she loved hanging out with him. When Celestia and Luna came to destroy him with the elements she had jumped in front of the rainbow. When someone is using the elements aggressively they are made to cause the recipient as much pain as possible, depending on the offence. She came off with a few cuts and bruises, but the real punishment was seeing discord encased in stone. “You are right, I will not deny that. But no matter how right you are I will never join you!” said Melody as her horn flared with magic and she began to etch the last rune into the floor. “Oh you will join with us whether you want to or not!” growled the spirits. A tendril of smoke whipped out and wrapped around Melody’s back hooves. Her scream echoed through-out the castle. Celestia shot out of her bed. She had heard her little sister scream. She raced down the halls ignoring anypony that asked where she was going, what that loud noise was, or if she was alright. When she reached Melody’s room she blasted the door off its hinges. What she saw shocked her so much she couldn’t move. Melody was being dragged into a glowing spell nexus by a blue cloud of smoke. “Tia! Help me!” screamed Melody. Celestia didn’t move, she couldn’t move. “Tia, this is a binding spell! If they consume me we will have an eternal bond. I won’t be able to escape. Please Tia, stop this monster.” Melody had just finished when the cloud pulled her all the way into the nexus. Celestia heard an evil laugh as the cloud swirled in a ball around her little sister. The edges of the spell lifted off of the floor and wrapped itself around the growing cloud. There was a blinding flash of light and the ball was gone. Standing In its place was a tall black alicorn. She had a dark blue sparkling mane. Pulsing down the hair were turquoise rings of pure energy. Melody’s green eyes turned into slit-pupiled dragon eyes. Her teeth grew into fangs before Celestia’s eyes. As the black mare opened her eyes a maniacal laugh grew in her throat and burst from her mouth, bouncing off the walls of the large room. “What did she call me? A monster? Oh yes, that is a very good word. Monster.” The former princess said to herself. Celestia stared at the dark alicorn. “Melody? Is that you?” Celestia Asked, but she already knew the answer. “Don’t act stupid Celestia! You’ve seen this before!” snapped the black alicorn. She was right. She had seen it happen to Luna. Now it had happened to Melody. “If you aren’t Melody, then who are you?” Asked Celestia, fear clouding her eyes. “I, Dear sister, am Sonic Scream.” With that Sonic Scream let out a scream that shattered Celestia’s ear drums, and flew out of the now non-existent balcony doors. Celestia’s horn glowed as she healed her ears. She looked out the shattered window at the night sky. She could see the silhouette of her sister’s new form against the moons pale surface. She knew that fighting was stupid, she had failed with Lun… no, Nightmare Moon. If she fought Sonic Scream, she would just end up with a wound and another banished sister. Well, she would lose Melody either way. Celestia picked herself up off of the floor, and ran downstairs to the throne room and the hidden elements of harmony.  Celestia flew out of the roof of the castle (it was still under construction after Nightmare Moon.). She found Sonic Scream playing with the stars. She had grabbed ten of them and was swirling nine around a larger center star. Celestia whistled to get her attention. When she looked at the white alicorn, Celestia lifted the elements and shot the rainbow at Sonic Scream. The palace scribes wrote about the new star, and the naming ceremony the princess held, proclaiming it The North Star. A beacon of light to guide those who are lost in the darkness.
