Sunny Side Up
Chapter 2
Previous ChapterNext ChapterA dark blue figure trotted down the halls. Staggering here and there from exhaustion, she had overseen the grand opening of a new club tonight and might have partaken in a few more drinks than she should have. The dark Alicorn did not mind though. She was actually thrilled to have been invited to such an event. To actually be needed felt good. Luna just wished that the bartender had not been so pushy with the drinks. The princess could have said no, but, she didn't want to offend the owner since he was quite insistent that she have a drink or two...or five.. or was it ten. The princess couldn't really recall what happened after that. Did she dance? Did she have fun? And why did she smell like cherries of all things.
Finally reaching her destination, she went to open the door with her magic. Instead, a splitting pain shot through her skull as her blue magic fizzled out. It was all she could do to stay standing from the sudden pain. "We must have partaken in more than we thought." She massaged her temple with her hoof.
Straightening her posture Luna preceded to open the door with her hoof. A small creaking sound could be heard as she walked in. The room was rather spacious with two long tables full of breakfast treats setup on each side. Luna pretty much ignored both tables as she all but scrambled for the dark elixir sitting in the corner of the room. She didn't even bother getting a cup as she grabbed the thermus and proceeded to guzzle down the heavenly brew. "Truly this drink is fit for the gods!" She mused as she continued chugging.
After finishing the entire thing, Luna let out a satisfied sigh. The dark roast blend already helping relieve last nights festivities. Something was off though. She couldn't quite put her hoof on it but it felt as if she had missed a very important detail. Looking around, she noticed that the room was empty. "Thats odd..." she said aloud to nopony in particular.
Her sister was always here in the morning, usually reading the newspaper while sipping on her tea. It was very unusual that she be absent. Come to think of it, wasn't the sun supposed to be out already? Setting down the thermus and closing her eyes, she extended her magic to reach for the moon, wincing slightly from the pain this caused due to her still throbbing head. As she connected with the celestial body, the princess of the night noticed that it had actually stopped moving. Before she could voice her alarm however, something decided that it was time he spoke up.
"Good morning Lulu," a cheerful voice greeted.
Luna let out a surprised gasp as she turned around to get a look at the intruder. "Discord?"
A loud ringing noise sounded as confetti exploded all over the room. "Congratulations, Princess, you are absolutely correct!" he said cheerfully. "And what a lovely start to this day, I might add. The chaos Tia's little sleep in has caused is absolutely wonderful!" Discord was literally dancing on the ceiling. Today was a good day; so much lovely chaos was going on that he felt tingly all over.
Luna could only stand there and gawk. Discord was such a revolting creature on so many levels. "Of course, YOU of all things would rejoice in this kind of situation," she spat as she pointed a hoof at him. "Did you even think to check up on her, or at least TRY to inform me of the situation?"
The draconicus in question only shrugged. "And miss out on all this lovely chaos?" Discord disappeared, then reappeared right beside Luna, hooking one arm around her. "Im not the one who directly caused this little incident today, so why should I take responsibility. Nope, I prefer to sit back and watch the fireworks."
Luna glared daggers at the mismatched figure. Why her sister ever let him out, she would never understand. As far as she was concerned, he should still be a lawn ornament for the birds to crap on.
"Such dark thoughts, Lulu. Celestia wouldn't approve," Discord said dipping a doughnut in hot sauce upside down on the ceiling.
What!? Wasn't he right beside me a second ago? Luna thought to herself as she shook her head. This was the god of chaos. Of course he would not make any sense.
It was at this moment that Discord chose to see how far he could push Luna. "What you should be more concerned with is the wellbeing of your dearest sister," Discord said with a devious grin.
This, of course, was the final straw that caused her to snap. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HER YOU VILE CRETIN?" she yelled in the Royal Canterlot Voice. The only reason the Alicorn had not attempted to vaporize him was that she had made a Pinkie Promise. NOBODY breaks a Pinkie Promise. No matter how much you wanted to.
Still sitting upside down on the ceiling, the Draconicus proceeded to throw the half eaten donut down towards the princess, only for it to fall upwards and land in his mouth. Then after chewing on it for a couple of seconds he said, "Relax, Princess. Tia is in her bedchambers last I checked. And I didn't do anything directly to her. It’s her own fault for not listening to the warning I gave her anyways. Besides, it was quite rude for her to invite me to breakfast and not show up. One would think that the ruler of a country would have better manners." Discord snapped his fingers and was now swimming through the air with a few napkins that had folded themselves to look like fish. One of the fish napkins made its way to Luna and was about to touch her when it suddenly burst into bright blue flames and fell to the floor.
"Awww! You killed little Anon. He was such a lovely chap to talk to," the Draconicus said in a mock hurt fashion.
The room started to get extremely cold as the Alicorn gave Discord a death glare. "When I get back, I will PERSONALLY have you turned into stone. Mark my words, Discord! If so much as one hair is harmed on my sister I! WILL! END! YOU!" Luna slammed the door as she ran out into the hallway, passing several stunned servants who were tending to their duties. Scanning her surroundings, she made her way down the hallway to a spot that was not lit very well. Drawing in a breath, she yelled in the Royal Canterlot Voice, "GUARDS! THINE PRINCESS REQUESTS YOU IMMEDIATELY!"
Five of her Night Guard appeared instantly from the shadows. "Yes, Princess?" they all said in unison after giving a firm salute.
Clearing her throat, Luna continued, "We have a situation on our hooves. Find Sargent Blue Hoof and tell him to gather his squad. They are to remain outside my sisters door to make sure no one enters or leaves besides myself or my sister. I need you five to stay hidden in the shadows and report any suspicious activity, no matter how trivial you think it is. Dismissed!" she commanded them. All five guards gave another salute as they faded back into the shadows. She could still hear Discord laughing as she bolted for her sisters room. Luna stopped as a thought crossed her mind. After facehooving, she charged up her horn and vanished in a shower of sparks, completing her teleportation spell.
8:29 AM
Solar Princess' Bedchambers
A figure tossed and turned in there bed muttering something about cakes. More specifically, a certain Marzipan Mascarpone Meringue Madness. It was almost a sin for such a creation to exist. The sweet, thick, creamy goodness of the Marzipan, mixed with the tart tanginess of the Mascarpone, perfectly blended with the smooth, silky sweetness of the Meringue. It had been too long since such a divine treat had graced the solar diarch's mouth. Truly this cake was fit for the gods.
A bright flash followed by a popping sound filled the room, causing the sleeping being to stir. Luna instantly galloped to her sister’s bedside and sighed in relief when she saw the lump under the covers slowly rising and falling. “Ah good, It would seem that my sister has just slept in. I was getting quite worried that something bad had happened,” she said to herself. Moving closer to the bed, she proceeded to wake the sleeping Alicorn. “Tia, wake up, dearest sister,” she said as she nudged the lump under the covers. The only response she got was a few grumbles. Luna let out a frustrated sigh as she tried again with the same results. She was really too tired to be dealing with all this nonsense. Using a breathing technique Cadence had taught her, Luna calmed her frazzled nerves. Okay. Hoof forward. Breath in. Hoof backward. Breath out. She repeated this process several times until she had her emotions in check. After steeling her resolve she leaned over the bed and nudged her sister a lot harder. As soon as she did, a hoof reached out and pulled her into the bed. Luna made an audible squeak as the being pulled her into a hug snuggling up against her. Normally she would welcome this kind of playful affection. There was just one problem.
Her sister didn't have muscles like these, even though Luna would never say that Celestia was always a little pudgy from all those cakes she loved eating. All her thoughts came crashing down as a deep masculine voice spoke up. “Mmmmmmm…Cherries…” The pony in question stuck it’s muzzle in Luna’s mane and inhaled deeply, as if savoring the sweet smell of cherries. This caused a shiver to run down Luna’s spine. Only one word came to mind.
Eenope!
She tried to pry herself from the pony under the covers, only for it to squeeze her tighter. Try as she might, Luna was trapped. Running through her options, the Alicorn decided to do the only thing she could at the moment. “Tia, if that’s you, quit acting like a foal and get up already!” she yelled. This caused the pony to squeeze tighter and rub his face up and down her neck. Another shiver ran down her spine. Luna was way out of her comfort zone and she really needed her personal space. "Eww eww eww!!! Too much affection. What on earth are you dreaming about Tia?" she protested. The lunar alicorn tried to teleport herself out of the pony’s grasp but couldn't concentrate as its hoof started wandering into some very sensitive areas. “Tia! I swear to Tartarus, if you don’t let me go, I w--mmfff” Luna froze in shock as lips were firmly pressed into hers. Her mind went fuzzy and her eyes glazed over as her mind finally broke. Going rigid, she let out a small squeak as she felt the strange pony roll on top of her and pin her down. It then started licking her face muttering something about Marzipans with cherries on top. All of this stopped, however, when a pair of purple eyes fluttered open and looked at her.
“Oh? Good morning Lu— Wait. Why does my voice sound so deep?” Celestia looked down at Luna who was pinned at a very awkward position under her. “Lulu? Dearest sister are you ok? Please answer me!” All thoughts were derailed as Celestia looked at the clock on the wall. The time reading 9:18 AM.
“Oh no nonononononono… Damnit to Tartarus! I slept in! With a bright flash of magic, the sun started moving up over the horizon. With that taken care of, Celestia looked down at Luna and noticed that she still had that far off expression. A small trail of drool went down the side of her mouth. Careful as not to hurt her, Celestia got off the bed and sat beside her. After about five minutes, Luna’s brain rebooted and she let out a terrifying scream. A clattering of armor and hooves could be heard as multiple guards busted through the outside door.
“What is it Your Highne—!?” One of the higher ranked Guards froze in mid statement as he eyed the intruder. “SURROUND THE INTRUDER! HE MEANS HARM TO OUR BELOVED PRINCESS!” He yelled in a commanding voice. Instantly, Celestia was surrounded by Solar and Lunar Guards on all sides.
“What is the meaning of this, Sargeant Blue Hoof? “Celestia asked in an annoyed tone.
“Where is Princess Celestia, you fiend? And what have you done to Princess Luna?” He demanded.
“What do you mean, ‘where is Princess Celestia’? Im right here, you foal!” The Solar Alicorn was getting very angry with her guards.
The guard in question only snorted. "Now thats a load of horseapples if I’ve ever heard any." Before he could say anything else the intruder spoke up.
“Do you not see the sun that adorns my flank, Sargeant?”
The guard only gave her a confused look.
Celestia was about to chew him a new one when she caught sight of her reflection from the mirror across the room. Only one word came to mind. “DISCORD!”
Meanwhile in Ponyville.
"Achoo!!" a certain Draconicus sneezed.
"Oh my, I hope you’re not coming down with something," a buttery yellow pegasus said timidly as she brushed her pink mane out of her eyes.
Discord took another sip of his tea careful not to close his eyes as that little white demon was sure to try something again. Who knew that a cute little bunny could have such colorful language too.
Fluttershy took this silence to voice a question that had concerned her greatly since early this morning. "If you don’t mind my asking, if that’s ok with you, I was wondering if Celestia was feeling well since she was three hours late raising the sun this morning?" she asked in her soft voice.
Discord looked up from his tea cup with a far off smile. After taking another sip he replied, "Oh I’m pretty sure he is just absolutely peachy today."
Fluttershy tilted her head in confusion. "Did you say 'he'?"
Discord smirked. "Indeed, I did say that."
"Oh...okay." Fluttershy then took a sip from her tea as she sat inside her home enjoying the company of such a wonderful friend. Both the Draconicus and Pegasus failed to see the huge blazing ball of light heading towards Ponyville from Canterlot.
It seemed Ponyville would be host to chaos yet again.
