In the fallen world the Elements of Harmony lie dormant, lumps of stone with no life. The prior bearers are either abused victims of the new order or willful collaborators, quislings in service to madness. The spheres are the prize of the new monsters in command of the nation.

But the Black Knight will not allow that situation to stand. If the rebellion is to succeed he will have to restore power to the spheres. The underground needs symbols, powerful and invincible symbols. The power of the old world, the Elements of Harmony, will show the fearful that there is hope. The new bearers will be found, and the Elements turned to the purposes of making devices to help the world.
