My Mind

Zeke looked down at me with a blank face as I remembered the last time I had seen him whilst he laid on that operating table being picked apart and pleading for me to save him. “Zeke…” I whispered under my breath trying to comprehend what was going on at that moment. I felt a wave of guilt and depression wash over me as I averted my eyes down to the ground holding back tears. I felt him put his hand on my shoulder and saw his other hand appear in front of my face to help me onto my feet.

“Stop feeling sorry for yourself Robert, you can’t save everyone no matter how hard you try. Right now you need to live for the ones out there not for the ones who have come in the past.” I looked up at him and smiled at the small encouragement because I knew he was right. Living for the ones who have died won’t help save the ones still living. I took his hand and he hoisted me onto my feet. “Right now your body is in a comatose state due to the corrupted magic you were using during that battle. When the adrenaline finally wore off your body shut down.” he pointed at the black screen sitting in front of the both of us.

“This is my mind...right?” I asked him, he gave a slight nod. “And what I think, goes, correct?” as he stared into my eyes I already knew the answer wasn’t that simple anymore.

“Remember the day you first arrived in Equestria Robert?” he asked out of nowhere as I raised an eyebrow to him.

“I do, why?”

“Do you remember what that ghost said to you?” I put my hand to my chin and started to think about it before it came to me.

“I believe you said, “A dangerous path chosen to tread is one that is only filled with dread.” am I right?” he nodded. “It wasn’t just any ghost, was it?” Zeke shook his head before he started to fade at his feet. I took a step towards him and hugged him tightly.

“So you figured out who it was, didn’t you? You figured out who I really am.” he asked solemnly as I nodded my head on his shoulder. “Don’t you hate me for it?” I chuckled at him as I felt tears start to come down my face.

“Why would I hate you for it? It was never your choice to do what you did, how you managed to even stay with me past that day on Okinawa just proves how much you cared. How much you didn’t want to leave me alone.” I told him happily. “You saved my life back then, even if it cost your life you saved me. I may have hated you for a time because I felt it should have been me and not you, but as I made friends after you left me I finally understood why you did it.”

“I wanted for so long for you to be alive again, to hear your voice, to see your smile. When all I really had to do is look up and extend a hand for me to be in contact with you again because all this time you were watching over me. But now its time for you to rest Zachary. You can’t keep doing this until I am dead, you have to move on without me. Your little sister is waiting for you to join her in heaven, she’s been waiting for years for you to arrive.”

I could feel him start to shake as he pulled me closer and laid his head on top of mine. “I’m sorry I couldn’t help her Zachary. I’ve failed you on multiple accounts as your brother but if there is one thing I will make right, one thing. I will make sure they all live, even if its at the cost of my life. You did your job and protected me Zachary, now I must protect the ones I love.” I pushed away from him as he was breaking down in front of me. Most of his legs were gone now and he was starting to fade at the lower stomach in patches now.

“Please remember the good times we had Zachary, but also the bad times as each moment we spent together made both of us grow as people. I’m just happy that I could spend the time I could with you. No matter how hard things get I will always remember you. No matter how steeped in anger and darkness I become I’ll be able to see the light that shines in you that will bring me back.” I beamed at him even with tears running down my face as he stared at me as his upper torso started to fade with his head as he extended a hand out to me.

“Goodbye… Robert.” he said trying to mask his sadness with a fake smile. His upper body was completely gone leaving only his arm and hand extended out to me as it started to fade rapidly. I grabbed it tightly before it finally faded into the glints of light blue light that faded into the darkness before the space around me turned into a calm grass field with a clear blue sky above.

“Rest in Peace Zachary, tell Jazmine I said I’ll be there as soon as I’m done here.” I smiled to the sky as I felt something appear in front of me. I immediately started walking towards it and it towards me.

“So you were able to escape the bindings, were you?” It asked, I held out my arm with my palm opened towards it with a deep scowl adorning my tear dampened face.

I felt a surge of power go from my head and down to my hand, “Leave my body Grimoire, I so command you.” I growled as the light from my hand engulfed us both as he looked at me in complete shock as he was turned to ash. The world faded again but this time it was due to me fainting from getting rid of the shadow of grimoire from my mind.
