They say that everything that happens in life has a reason, whether it be the death of an insignificant plant to the fall of an empire. If the sky were to disappear or the earth to break open and swallow us whole, there has to be a reason to why it happened. All creatures have a reason why they’re herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores albeit they’re driven by instincts to simply survive by any means necessary. To that rule, of course, are certain exceptions such as humans, ponies, dragons, kirin, changelings, and the list goes on. Unlike most creatures we’re capable of further thought and feeling, with that comes the ability to use languages to communicate, trade, and develop relationships with each other. We are creatures capable of so much and yet at the end of the day our primal instincts are what drive us, no matter how hard we try to distance ourselves from them. Those primal instincts make our emotions only that much stronger and no matter how hard we may try, we can never escape them. I can’t ever escape them, I will never escape them. The instinct that drives all creatures that struggle to survive, that one basic instinct that ties all predators together, the instinct to kill in order to survive.
Even now as my own blood mixes with the rain soaking my armor, I stand defiant to the one who has caused me so much pain over these past couple of years. My body is riddled in deep gashes and cuts whilst my once formidable armor hangs limply from my frame in tatters. From my left shoulder blood ran lazily from where my arm had been violently ripped out...and despite it all my irises shimmered with a bright emerald hue that refused to die as my gaze cut through the wild tempest that commanded the night like an enraged god. My right arm was straightened out in front of me wielding the sword they had made me. I used what strength I had left to not fall limp to the ground, defying death itself as I winced through every breath with a deadly glare directed towards the one who caused that pain and suffering. Behind me lay creatures that I had called friends and family. some of them were barely hanging on while the others...they were already gone.
I took a step towards the floating creature; it looked down at me with loathing yet behind that I could see he was begging me to stop. The weight of the step was heavy as the ground below me cracked, lightning bolted across the sky above while the rain continued to pour down on us; the resulting thunder drowned out the sound of swords clashing in the distance along with the bloodthirsty cries of the two armies. I took another step but this time my strength finally failed me as my leg gave out and I collapsed, barely catching myself by planting my sword to keep me steady, wincing as the screeching sound of the blade against hard stone died out. I felt weak and on the verge of death but I can’t give up nor can I give in, so many innocent lives have been taken by this monster that was once my closest friend. So much pain, so much loss, the only thing that he deserved...no that we both deserved was death.
He turned on them, he shed the blood of our comrades, the ones we swore to protect until the last drop of blood had left both of our bodies. The Marines who had come here, they had died only a year after this war began, it was when he fell that their blood stained on not only his hands but mine, a stain that neither of us can ever remove. Now I must bring an end to this, I must take responsibility for what we have both done. I must kill Robert before he brings anymore pain to the innocent creatures of this world even if it costs me my own life.
I stood up as tears started to stream down my cheeks mixing with the rain as I felt the runes in my armor activate, it caused the air around me to light up like a star in the night sky. Pushing myself forward I worked up to a sprint towards him as he shook his head and attempted to evade, but I was faster and my vengeance would not be denied. As I reached the edge of the cliff I lept at him and in that instant I brought my sword back to swing at him, he raised his left hand up with bloody tears running from his icy, luminous blue eyes. At that moment my blade carved into him, but he had already released his spell and we were both consumed in a brilliant light. As my body began to burn away to ash I saw him stare at me in horror as he screamed my name, but it was too late. I’m sorry, Robert, you were the one that needed me most, and I had failed to save you. Although consumed by light oblivion consumed my vision as I drifted off into death’s clutches, who had been denied so long, had finally gotten his way.
