She did so, running for two days straight and getting a good distance between her and the darkspawn horde. When she finally arrived in Lothering, the darkspawn only a day behind her, she ordered her four younger siblings and parents to pack up and get out. Once the Hawkes were safely out, Thalia alerted the rest of the town and then ran with her family towards the Wilds. Fleeing in the direction that would take them to a small harbor town on the coast, roughly three days' travel from Lothering, they met Aveline Vallen and her husband, Ser Wesley. Near the area they met the couple, the group encountered an ogre that killed Carver as he and Malcolm defended Leandra. After the battle with the ogre, the darkspawn horde finally caught up to the exhausted party and surrounded them. Flemeth, the Witch of the Wilds, saved them in exchange for a service: they simply had to deliver an amulet to a Dalish keeper whose clan occupied the base of Sundermount, a half a day's travel from Kirkwall. Wesley collapsed and succumbed to the darkspawn taint, leaving Aveline to put him out of his misery. Thalia agreed to Flemeth's fairly simple request on behalf of the group and carried the amulet across the ocean on the ship she, her family, Aveline, and other refugees boarded. When they arrived in Kirkwall, they discovered that their uncle Gamlen had gambled away the estate and money that had been left to Leandra after her parents' death. While Thalia was angry, she was nowhere near the level of pure fury Garrett had attained, and her younger brother poisoned their uncle after he'd come home drunk as a fish from a night out at the Blooming Rose. Agreeing not to tell their parents, the siblings made it look like Gamlen had passed of a heart attack in his sleep. Leandra grieved for only a little while about her brother's death. While Garrett brough home coin for completing contracts for Meeran, the frontman of the mercenary company 'The Red Iron', Bethany and Marian helped Thalia work for Athenril, an elven smuggler. Months before the coin could be saved up for the expedition, Malcolm contracted a disease that affected his lungs. Desperate to save him, Thalia and her siblings called on all their contacts and spent much of their stockpiled money on doctor visits, potions, and healer calls, but to no avail. Malcolm died and plunged his wife and eldest child into a deep pit of grief. //-------------------------------------------------------// Character Files: Bethany Hawke //-------------------------------------------------------// Character Files: Bethany Hawke Name: Bethany Leandra Hawke Race: Human Gender: Female General Class: Mage Subclass: Arcane Hair Style: Loose, tumbling waves coming to just past her shoulders Hair Color: Dark brown, almost but not quite black Eye Color: Brown Skin Color: Lightly tanned Family: Malcolm (Father), Leandra (Mother), Thalia (Sister), Carver (Brother), Marian (Sister), Garrett (Brother) When Thalia plunged into despair after their father died, Bethany stepped up to the plate. She was the oldest functioning Hawke sibling for three months, and in that tiime she made connections. Taking Varric's suggestion of hunting down a former Grey Warden, an apostate named Anders, Bethany and her younger siblings sought out the infamous healer of Darktown. What they found was not what they were expecting. A selfless healer, a sympathizer of the mage cause, and an avid hater of templars who loved cats, was the type of man they had to do a favor for to get maps for a good entrance into the Deep Roads. Not exactly what Bethany had in mind that morning as she went to collect Varric from the Hanged Man. After attempting to help Anders free his friend Karl, then slaughtering the templars that had surrounded the party and the tranquil mage, the healer grieved for about a day, then paid up with the maps and some spare coin. Having grown fond of the healer over the short period of time she'd known him for, Bethany invited the other apostate to join their merry band of misfits. Anders accepted, but warned her that he had his duties as a healer to attend to most of the time. And he did. She didn't see him much, except for when she needed a quick potion or two and Lady Elegant was unable to do business. Slowly, ever so slowly, the coin began to flow again for the Hawke family. While they were far from the fifty sovereigns Varric said Bartrand was after, the seventeen sovereigns were the result of two months of scrimping and saving. While Garrett worked tirelessly for Meeran, earning the respect of many of the mercenaries in and around Kirkwall, Athenril came through with jobs galore. Smuggle lyrium to a secluded cave on the Wounded Coast. Eradicate a camp of Tevinter slavers infringing on her territory. Negotiate with the Coterie over rights to smuggle through Darktown. There was no shortage of things to do, and then one day a light appeared at the end of the tunnel for the party. Thalia simply appeared in battle, seemingly from nowhere; jumping down from rooftops, busting out of crates, sliding out of the shadows, fighting then disappearing right before the battle ended. Ashamed of herself for making her siblings work so hard while she did nothing, the eldest Hawke sibling pulled all-nighters and made risky connections. In another two months, Bethany was pleased to see her older sister back in the business, and even more pleased to see their stash of sovereigns grow from seventeen to thirty. Finally the Hawke siblings paid off their debt to Flemeth: meeting Marethari, being joined by Merrill, and having an image of the witch pop out of the amulet on top of the mountain. After settling the elf into Kirkwall's alienage, Bethany gladly followed Thalia to Lowtown for a task a dwarf had for them.
