It's interesting what they say about insanity, so many things, and yet they just miss the mark. Insanity is all about perspective, when you see it through the eyes it casts upon you, you realize you aren't broken, it's a defence, your mind shutting down the things it doesn't need to survive...
I never thought about insanity at length until this very moment, trapped within a car trunk, being driven out into the ass end of nowhere. Things were definitely becoming insane, I was becoming insane, my mind clawing and pounding against its borders, trying to get out of here. When I realized what was going on it was too late, I was in the trunk, listening to the voices outside the car, catching the words, but my rattled mind incapable of stringing them together. Or perhaps it simply didn't want to face the reality of the event.
"...Look we got the bitch let's just cap her n-"
"No, we'll leave to much evidence, we need to make it look like an accident."
"How do you suppose we do that while she's in the trunk?"
"Simple we light it, then we roll it down." The men chuckled outside, I was only staring to realize the true gravity of my situation. It was quiet for a few moments after that, then it started to get incredibly hot, then I started moving, FAST. In those last few moments before impact I thought of my older sister, wondering what she would do in this situation, but she wouldn't be in this situation, she's a lot stronger and tougher than I am. I hit the ground, HARD, the flames began to spread over me, with a sloshy mixture of oil and gas fumes. I screamed in agony, the trunk forced open by the fall, I leapt from my burning death trap, howling in pain as I ran, trying futilely attempting to put myself out. I managed to after several moments, but it was too late, my skin was covered in severe burns, several of my ribs shattered like glass, bone stuck outward from my leg, yet I carried on. I moved onward with great purpose, I'm not sure now what motivated me to do so, but I had. I stumbled upon a small group that was camping, my arrival like something from a horror movie, but they helped me, splinted my leg, bandaged my wounds and burns, took me back into town. I changed that day... my mind snapped and I had but one purpose, to make sure that never happens to anyone else.
Many may call the survivors insane, but isn't it the survivors that are the only ones who can truly decide what is sane?
I took up a new mantle, Applebloom died in the fire, I was just her spirit, a spirit angered beyond all, I became the Burning Mare. My rage like a fiery steed in the night. But that isn't all that happened, no this is just the beginning.
