Midnight made his way down the streets of the city he had known all of his life, he wore a smile on his face, because he would soon be old enough to go and visit Cloudsdale again, however this time he would be able to travel all by himself. Last time he was there he had at first been alone because all the other colts and fillies already had friends and weren't planning on making any more, he would spend most of the time in Cloudsdale alone, laying on a cloud, his black fur and dark green mane, not helping him to blend into the clouds very well. However he had made a friend while he was there last, it was a cyan mare, they even exchanged a necklace so they could help find each other when they were older. Her name was rainbow something, he couldn't really remember. It had been a while since his last visit, but now he was glad to be going back, nothing was going to ruin his day, however, that was until he mad it to his house and saw it was ablaze, along with many other homes now.
Midnight breathed heavily as he ran as fast as he could, he could still here the screams of the other ponies around him as he ran, his red mane flowing behind him as he ran, not looking back, not wanting to look back at what memories oh his were now ablaze. He continued to increase speed, his muscles aching and beginning to hurt, he may have been a pegasus, but he was still young, and had not even learned to fly yet.Tears poured down his face, his mother, his father, and even his baby sister were now, they were now, he shook his head and turned a corner hard, sliding and falling, scraping his side, however the adrenaline in him kept him running. He could hear the cries of pain throughout the air, as the little pegasus ran, tears still in his eyes as he turns another corner. He looked up to see the smoked-filled sky as Pegausi flew around, some were leaving in terror, while others stayed to fight off who ever was attacking them. This only made the foal cry more at how useless he was, as he turned another corner, he seemed to bump into some-pony, and froze in terror as he looked up to see a large Earth pony standing before him. He wore a white cloak and had the hood pulled up, the earth pony looked at the little pegasus before him and smiled slightly behind the hood, all the while the little foal was petrified with fear that the stallion would attack him, and possibly kill him. The foal continued to shudder, but stopped as the stallion place a hoof on his shoulder and spoke in a calm voice,
"This is no place for a foal to be," The stallion then lifted off his hood and picked the small pegasus up before he ran off, holding the scared little foal in his hoof, keeping him close to him as to not drop him and to keep him safe from those that were attacking the small town.
The Foal could not believe what was happening, he felt as if he was moving. He slowly opened one eye and saw the ground moving beneath him, he turned to the stallion, and saw him running fast, why was this stallion carrying him? The foal didn't think to much as he looked back at the horror before him, he could now see the dead ponies that laid behind him. He could smell their charred flesh as it burned, even the foals, some his age, and some even younger were laying there dead, blood flowing from the gashes on them, they were the lucky ones, while others burned alive and had to feel all that pain while there flesh burned, only to fall to the ground, and die slowly. The screams echoed in his ears as he felt his heart and mind shatter, for the scenes the foal saw are something that none should see at all. He now looked down with an emotionless look in his eyes, not even noticing that his former blank flank, had earned its' cutie mark.
After a while the little foal had fallen asleep, while he slept however, he dreamed of nothing but the pain and suffering of his neighbors and family, his mind was blank after that. He slept for what seemed like days, months even. However it had only been a few hours, he looked around to see where he was, but he could not tell really, they were in a forest, and there was a small village ahead, most of the ponies there all wore white cloaks, just like the stallion. The mysterious stallion then set me down and looked at me.
"You will be safe here, so do not worry," the stallion said, trying to reassure the little foal in front of him, but the foal continued to look down to the ground, her tears long since dried since they had left his home town, as the foal looked up at him, there was a blank expression in his eyes.
By now others had began to come over, and along with the ones in cloaks came two foals around his age, one was an Earth Pony, and the other was a Unicorn. They looked at him for a while and continued as the Stallion was asked questions, he did not answer most of them, not wanting to bring it back up for the foal he had just saved, instead he took the foal with him and headed up to what looked like a larger hut, the other two foals following close behind as he approached the door, the Earth Stallion knocked on the door. After a while the door opened and the Stallion gestured the Pegasus, along with the other two foals into the hut, after they had all entered, he himself went inside with the foals and closed the door.
It was dark in the room, which allowed the pegasus to blend in, the unicorn had a white coat so he was easily seen, while the Earth Pony had light brownish fur. At the end, near the back of the room was another one of the Stallions dressed in a white cloak, however he was an old Unicorn with grey fur, and shaggy mane, his horn had a small crack in it and his hoofs were chipped. He seemed to smile as he saw the foals enter, as he did you could see he had a few teeth missing, complementing his old age. He knew two of foals that had entered since it was a small village, however, he had not seen the pegasus before, and the cutie mark that the foal had intrigued him greatly. He stood up, wobbly at first and walked down and stood in front of the Pegasus, he seemed to look at him for a long while, he then looked at this little Pegasus's cutie mark, he could not make tell of his special talent, instead he smiled at the Pegasus and slowly swung at him, the Pegasus had only a little time to react as he moved away, the hoof slightly grazing him, but the little pegasus could still feel it, even though the hoof had only grazed him, it still stung a little.
"You are good, not many can dodge my hit on there first try," the old Unicorn said through a hoarse voice.
The Pegasus stood and looked at the old stallion and then could feel him self charge at the old Unicorn for hitting him for no reason what so ever as the foal saw it, however the old Unicorn dodged the attack and smacked the Pegasus to the ground hard, as he got up, he tried to swing at the Unicorn again, only to be smacked down into the ground hard. This continued until the Pegasus could barely move, he bled from his forehead and looked up slowly, his vision blurred as he tried to stand, this time the Unicorn helped him up, a faint gray glow surrounding him as he stool the little Pegasus up.
"Not only can you dodge a hit, but you can take quite a beating, I especially like your determination, how would you like to join our cause young Pegasus," the Unicorn said as he looked at the Pegasus, who pondered that offer for a moment, until he nodded, he had nothing else to live for, so why not join whatever cause they were. The old man grinned as he looked at the Pegasus,
"Then Welcome, to the Assassin's Order," the Unicorn said as he looked deep into the Pegasus's eyes.
It had been a week since Midnight had arrived at the Order, he was welcomed with open hoofs by a few of the other stallions and mares, most however didn't like the company of this outsider that was brought here, however none would go out of there way to say it, they would only glare, or simply ignore the little pegasus. That all changes today however as training begins for all the young fillies and colts to become part of the Assassins Order. The training was said to be the toughest there was, and that most don't even pass, those that don't are sent to become blacksmiths or carpenters, or just regular guards, whatever they can do to help the small Village. Those that do make it through the training though become Assassins, and are sent all over Equestria. As Midnight awakes on this day, he hopes that he will become an Assassin and make it through the training, in hopes that when he does, everypony will stop giving him the cold shoulder. As he got up from his bed, he went to the sink, as he washed his face, he looked up to see his own reflection staring back at him, red eyes staring into him. Midnight shook his head and proceeded to brush his teeth, and finish his morning routine. After which he walked to the door of his own small hut, the Assassins believed in Independence, learning to live on your own, Most of the time the foals would live in a small hut near their parents and would only use it to sleep. Midnight however did not have parents, anymore that is and lived in a small run down hut near the edge of the village. As Midnight left his house, he walked around, breathing in the fresh air of a new day, and the dirt beneath his hooves. Midnight trotted down to the training grounds, ready to start, not knowing what would be in store for him.
As Midnight approached the training grounds he could see a large stone temple along with stone pillars high in the air with padding and hay at the bottom of them, some even had water. As Midnight climbed the stairs slowly up to the training grounds many other fillies and colts ran by him, ready to start their own training. When Midnight finally had reached the top of the stairs he walked to one of the pillars and sat down, leaning up against it, away from the growing crowd of fillies and colts. Once all the children had settled down, two stallions and a mare approached. The Mare was an Earth Pony and had a dark blue coat with sky blue mane. The two stallions looked similar, both with red coats, and and orange manes, the only difference was that one was a pegasus and the other was a Unicorn. The Earth Pony stepped up and slammed her hoof down hard onto the stone floor and looked around at all the fillies and colts in front of her and smirked slightly before she spoke, "My Name is Willow of the Wisp," as she spoke, her voice sounded calm, but rough, "and I will be training you, along with the help of these two," the two stallions behind her nodded as she began to speak again, "We will start training by dividing you into teams of three, each team must enlist an earth pony, a unicorn, and a pegasus, you all have the next ten minutes to find your team, get to know each other, and be ready to begin your training, however I already know that most wont make it through the first day." Willow then went back to the other two stallions while all the fillies and colts ran around, arranging there teams.
Midnight sat in the back, looking up every so often as he saw other already in teams, already talking and introducing themselves, most of which were already friends. Midnight let out a sigh again, however he could feel himself moving, in fact he was being dragged. When Midnight opened his eyes he could see an Earth Pony with with light brownish fur and a darker brown mane. The Earth Pony had taken a hold of him by his wing, lightly biting into it as he was dragged to a pure white Unicorn with a black mane. The Earth Pony finally dropped me near him and as I looked up I could see a broad grin on his face as he looked down at me. "Glad to have you aboard the best Assassin team ever, my name is Bolt," Bolt then took my hand and shook it vigorously, before motioning to the Unicorn "and mister depressing over here is called Flutter, he doesn't talk a lot but when he does its usually to point out flaws or how something is a bad idea," Bolt sounding energetic, with a voice that will never be put down. Midnight then looked over to Flutter who only continued to look down at the ground, Flutter's eyes seemed half open as he slowly looked up at Midnight, only to go back to looking at the ground again. Midnight sighed as he sat with his new group, most of the other fillies and colts were already done with introductions and as he was about to speak, a whistle broke his words as he looked up to see Willow was blowing it.
Willow spat out a whistle and began to speak again "I see that everypony is into there own team, now know that if one of your teammates does not complete one of there tasks, you will all be punished, now then, the first job is to remember those faces, because for today you will be split up, unicorns will meet with my partner to work on the basic magic you will need to be an Assassin, while the pegasi will learn to fly like an Assassin, and finally the earth ponies will come with me to work on sprints around the temple. NOW MOVE IT!!!!" Willow yelled the last part as each and every pony began to leave to there own area, the earth ponies with Willow and the Unicorns and pegasi with her other partner. He didn't talk on the way to where we were heading, but Midnight could see them climbing the temple and heading to a somewhat large balcony. The stallion stopped there and turned around to face us. "My name is Light Foot, and I will be your Flight Instructor, I will help you fly in the way of the order, first off I will teach you how to fly, and we will be doing it the same way that birds teach there young." Light Foot only smirked as her walked up to a little Filly Pegasus, he then bent down and picked her up with his teeth and with one swift action tossed the filly off the edge of the Balcony. You could hear her scream as she plummeted to the ground below her, however before she hit she flapped her wings as best she could, and instead of crashing was able to fly back up to the balcony, still visibly shaking from what had happened. Light Foot then turned around and looked at all the now petrified pegasi with a grin before speaking again "Who's next."
As the flight test came to an end, many fillies and colts didn't make it, hitting the ground hard and than limping away to the Medical Hut, however those that did were all shaking hoofs with smiles on there faces, as Midnight looked around, he could see that he was the last one there. The last pegasi to learn to fly yet. Light Foot trotted over to Midnight and picked him up, and with one toss, he was falling. Midnight looked around as the ground began to move closer and closer, he opened his wings and began to flap as hard as he could, trying desperately not to hit the ground. Midnight flapped his wings harder an faster, trying to prevent himself, however everything seemed to stop now as Midnight looked abound, he was a mere inch from the ground, his wings flapping hard, keeping him from meeting it. With all his strength Midnight began to fly up to the Balcony and as he settled down, he didn't feel much for his accomplishment, he could finally fly, but that didn't matter much to him now.
