chapter 1: growing up hard
A salty tear began to trickle down the damp fur of Carrot Cakes face. She halted half way in a sniffle, inhailing sharply. Everypony in the room cast their gaze upon the two corpses of Mr. ans Mrs. Cake. A few chocked sobs interuppted the stiff silence of the funeral. Pinkie Pie wiped her cheek, then dabbing at the wet spots under the now, somewhat grown Carrot Cake's, eyes. Though mourning was heavy in the air, Pound Cake sat at the end of the front row, unmoved by the death of his parents. He knew they where gonners when the doctor said they had diabeties. So, when the day came that the death of his parents reached his ears, he was in no way shocked.
The word of the ponies death did not halt, even at school. Homeroom was buzzing with rumours or the new orphans. Pinkie told Carrot and Pound to stay strong, so that's what they did. The two walked beside one another to their seats in the back corner. Carrot slung her bag onto the desk, plopping in it with a sigh as she rested her head on the table. Pound watched her face wash with sadness, and her eyes trying to spark some sort of strength or encouragment. Carrot laughed a little to herself with a small smile.
"Whatcha laughin' at Care?" Pound questioned with a head tilt, his brown hair falling in his face. He moved it back to it's place over covering his right eye.
"Just remembering the times when we'd sleep in bowls of powdered sugar then track it around the house." Carrot spoke with the memory fillling both siblings heads.
They sat in the rememberance for a moment untill class started, as did teasing. All through the day they where taunted by peers. All except one, Screwball, daughter of Discord. She just went about wordless. Carrot saw her in the bathroom washing her hooves.
"H-hi Carrot." She said in a cheerful but hesitant way.
