Load Full StoryThis was the moment.
“Miss Fluttershy, are you ready?” A red stallion wearing a coat was standing next to the yellow Pegasus, who was wearing a beautiful white dress, covered in roses and lucky charms.
“Y-Yes, Big Mac.” Fluttershy softly said, not making eye contact with the farm pony.
A high pitched noise came from outside the curtains, before it turned into a tapping noise and low grunting.
“Sorry Everypony!” An announcer cried to the deaf crowd. “Something went wrong with the microphone.” He made a low coughing noise, before going back into his show announcer voice.
“Tonight, we will have a very special singer. She comes from the town Ponyville, taking care of the local animals. Please welcome Fluttershy!”
Silence.
The light remained pointed at the curtain, still unmoved.
Fluttershy shifted in her dress, eyeing the floor.
A soft chanting started to come from the crowd, making the Pegasus lift her ears.
“Fluttershy, Fluttershy, Fluttershy!” The crowd cheered, hoping for her to come onto the stage.
A small drop of liquid started to drop from Fluttershy’s still form.
“Uh, Miss Fluttershy?” Big Mac said. “Are you.....crying?”
Fluttershy slowly tried to wipe away her tears, but they stuck to her like Pinkie Pie’s confetti.
“I-I’ve been waiting for this moment for....years, Macintosh...” She whimpered.
“I...don’t want to give up....right now....but...” Fluttershy stopped mid-sentence as a red hoof was placed on her shoulder.
“Miss Fluttershy, do ya remember that time you sang on that stage back in Ponyville to yer’ animal friends?” Big Macintosh asked.
“Y-Yes...”
“That was a mighty fine 2 years ago. Do you remember what you said on that very day?”
“Little....baby steps, Macintosh.” Fluttershy whispered.
“Eeyup.” The work horse said. “Two whole years ago, you said those very words. You practiced and practiced, every day I came to see ya, you were signing to a different melody, in hopin’ of becoming a star. You eventually got the confidence to stand in front a Ponyville and sing. Everypony loved your singing, and you’ve gone a very long way since then. Now it’s time for you to surprise more ponies.”
“But......Big Mac...My friends in Ponyville aren’t the only ones watching me....Complete strangers are in that crowd too. From what Rarity told me a few years back, ponies in Canterlot can be a bit.....snobby.” Fluttershy cringed on the last line, holding her breath to make sure no one on the other side of the curtains heard her.
Big Mac sighed. He knew Fluttershy was right; he had a run in with a few Canterlot ponies once, including Prince Blue-Blood, who was anything but nice to him. But he knew that there had to be one nice pony in the crowd that would appreciate Fluttershy’s angel-like singing.
Pinkie Pie, Twilight, Dash, Rarity, Applejack and Angel Bunny were in the crowd too, but it took some persuading to let Angel in, being a animal and all.
“Fluttershy....” Big Mac started, making Fluttershy turn to him with a forlorn face.
“Do it for them.” Macintosh stated, pointing to the crowd behind the curtains.
“M-My friends....?” Fluttershy asked, her tears finally managing to clear up.
“Eeyup. Twilight, Rainbow, Rarity, Ma sister and Pinkie Pie are all out there.”
Fluttershy took a small step forward, the chanting of the crowd making her ears ring serverely.
“Is Angel out there?” Fluttershy peeped, turning towards the red earth pony.
Big Mac took a small breath. He didn’t really like Angel Bunny; he was always rude and quite bossy, not taking a meal if it was missing one ounce of an ingredient. Poor Granny Smith was terrified of that demonic bunny for weeks after she accidentally put sugar on his meal instead of salt.
Apart from that, Fluttershy and Angel were great friends, even if they did fight.
Fluttershy discovered Angel in the Everfree Forest, right after she got her cutie mark.
Angel decided to follow her home, and soon became her first best friend, before she met the other Elements of Harmony.
Rainbow Dash, Element of Loyalty.
Pinkie Pie, Element of Laughter.
Applejack, Element of Honesty.
Rarity, Element of Generosity.
Twilight Sparkle, Element of Magic.
And herself, Fluttershy, Element of Kindness.
“Well.....I guess I could try...Since my friends are out there, I’m sure they’ll cheer me on.....But what about the other ponies?”
The cheering of the crowd ponies was growing louder and louder, turning into more of a jeer than a chant.
“Ah’m sure they’ll treat you with proper respect like everypony else who was on this stage. It wouldn’t be polite to treat ya different just because you’re a new-comer to the stage.” Big Mac answered.
“I.....guess you’re right.” The butter Pegasus whispered, hiding her blue eyes under her silky pink mane.
The shy animal lover and the hard working earth pony turned towards each other and then back to the red curtain.
The cheering was a fully audible now, and it sounded like Fluttershy’s house when a pack of hyenas decided to stay to shield themselves from the hot sun in the summer.
“FLUTTERSHY! FLUTTERSHY!” The crowd screamed, making Fluttershy’s ears perk down instantly.
Suddenly, the entire crowd fell silent as the small Pegasus trotted out from behind curtains, her white dress occasionally tripping her up, but only a small amount, so it was not visible to the crowds.
Her friends watched from a small stand, with Twilight and the other royal ponies sitting on a higher pedestal, each of their cutie marks engraved onto the top.
Fluttershy could also noticed a few other ponies from her village in the crowd too.
Scootaloo, a former member of The Cutie Mark Crusaders was sitting in the crowd, surrounded by her friends, Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom.
They were no longer part of the Crusaders, as they had already earned their cutie marks.
Her eyes started to water up, as she saw her old childhood friends from Cloudsdale sitting in the crowd too.
Complete silence covered the theatre as hundreds of eyes looked down at her.
And then, she began to sing.
