There have been many tales about the group of heroes, or more accurately, heroines called the Power Ponies. Every member has their own tale. Each used to be a normal pony. We will be going into the tale of each member. We start with Zapp, the Mare of Weather. Her real name is Rainbow Dash and she used to live in Cloudsdale. This is the tale of her life, becoming a superhero, and fighting her first supervillain. But we'll start with her life before becoming a superhero.
Rainbow Dash was sitting in class, bored out of her mind. The day's lesson was about the Wonderbolts, a team she wanted to join. She sat back as she looked at the paper. The test was also about the Wonderbolts, but she knew very little about them. She was known as the fastest pegasus in Cloudsdale, home of all the pegasi, even the Wonderbolts. Even though she was the fastest pegasus, she had the lowest grade in school. She leaned back in her chair and turned to see her friend Lightning Dust who looked bored too. Lightning Dust was the second fastest pegasus in Cloudsdale. The two had raced each other many times, but Lightning Dust had never beaten her in a race, not once. Still, Rainbow answered the questions the best she could before class ended.
"Class, please turn in your papers and remember, we're going on a field trip tomorrow, so make sure you get here in time." the teacher said.
Rainbow Dash and Lightning Dust exited the school, thinking about the field trip .
"So. what do you think, Rainbow? Think we're going to see the new machine Dr. Elector's making?" Lightning Dust asked.
"Not sure Lightning, why would a machine take the job of the pegasi? It's like saying we're useless." Rainbow Dash answered.
Dr. Elector was a pegasus stallion who believed that his machine could help the pegasi make the weather . Rainbow Dash and Lightning Dust were two of the many pegasi that were training to be weather ponies. They flew into the sky and passed the Wonderbolt's Academy. Rainbow stopped and saw a few Wonderbolts pass by. Lightning Dust also watched. The two both wanted to join, but they had to finish school first. Rainbow and Lightning turned away and ran into Muscle Hooves, the bully of their school.
"Hey, watch it dweebs." He said.
"You know we didn't heard you coming Muscle-head." Rainbow said.
"What you say punk?" Muscle Hooves ask and lift her up.
"Your hear me, or are you nothing, but muscle?" Rainbow said.
"Why you..." He said and and pull his hoof back.
He went to swing forward, but his hoof wouldn't move. He look back and saw the captain of the Wonderbolts behind him.
"You know, I hate when someone thinks that they are better because they have more muscles." She said.
It was Spitfire, she was the Captain of the Wonderbolts and was a family friend to Rainbow's family. Spitfire twist the hoof behind Muscle and he drop Rainbow as he winch in pain.
"Now get outta my sight." Spitfire said and let go.
Muscle Hooves walk away, but not before saying, "There no way a punk like you will ever join the Wonderbolts. Your grades are terrible."
"Like his are any better." Rainbow said as Lighting Dust help her up.
"Well, just get your grades up and you will surely enter the Academy." Spitfire said.
"Sometimes I wish that I can enter just because I'm friends with the Captain." Rainbow said.
"Sorry kid, but that not going to happen." Spitfire said.
"I know, I know. Just a thought, that all." Rainbow said.
"Well, I'll catch up later. Got make sure the team doesn't fall behind on their drills.' Spitfire said and wave.
The two wave back and walk home. They didn't get far before a blue pegasus with a green mane and tail with a flame thunderbolt as his cutie mark flew next to them.
"Hello Lighting Dust, Rainbow Dash." He said.
"Hey Dad." Lighting Dust said.
"Hello Mr. Thunder." Rainbow said as well.
"Rainbow please, call me Flame Thunder." He said.
Flame Thunder is Lighting Dust dad and the owner of Cloudsdale Weather Factory. He knew Rainbow family well, working with her father before he pass away. Rainbow mother was nowhere to be seen and she was mostly rise by him.
"Sorry, it just strange to call you my dad when...you know." Rainbow said.
"I know, it ok.", Flame Thunder said, "your father was a great pegasi."
"So dad, why are you here?" Lighting Dust ask.
"I heard that you two are coming to the factory tomorrow. I just want you to know that I'll be heading the whole thing, so don't worry about the other workers." He said.
"Yeah, Well I see you tomorrow." Rainbow said.
Rainbow flew to her house which was pretty big, thanks to Flame Thunder. Rainbow enter and look around. He house was like most pegasi. She added a few things, like poster of the Wonderbolts and a few trophy's on her selves She threw her bag on the floor and walk towards her room. Rainbow lay down and look at a picture of two pegasi. Her father had a dark blue fur coat and a rainbow mane and tail. Her mother was brown with a grey mane and tail. Others say that Rainbow looks like her mom and got her color from her dad. Rainbow turn and look up through the hole that show the night skies.
"Some times I wish I could life differently then I do right now." She said and drift to sleep.
Rainbow woke up to the sound of knocking and she got up and walk to the door. She open it and saw Lighting Dust.
"LD, what are you doing here?" She ask tried.
"RD, you're going to be late!" She said.
Rainbow was confuse at first before it click.
"The Field Trip!" She shouted and rush to get ready. It took Rainbow ten seconds to get ready and Lighting Dust hand her some fruit snacks to help Rainbow eat. The two flew to the school and made it just in time.
"So Miss Dash, Miss Dust. I see you made it." Their teacher said.
"Yeah, losers." Muscle Hooves laugh.
"Mr. Mince." The teacher call out.
Rainbow and Lighting couldn't help, but to chuckle at that. Mince was Muscle Hoof real name.
Would you like to stay here and do all your homework without any one helping you?" The teacher ask.
"No sir!" He said.
"Good, now open your wings and follow me." He said and the all flew off.
It didn't take long before they reach the weather factory and waiting for them was Flame Thunder.
"Ah, welcome everypony." He said as they landed, "As you know, my name is Flame Thunder and I'm in-charge of this weather factory, I let the weather be handle by the pegasus. I do help from time to time."
"Thanks for having us come over Mr. Thunder." The Teacher said.
"Not at all." He said and spotted Rainbow and Lighting.
"I see my two favorite pegasi are here. Did you get her up again, Lighting Dust?" Flame Thunder ask.
"Yeah, Dad I did." Lighting Dust said.
Some of other students was surprise to hear that.
"Ah yes, Lighting Dust is my daughter and is next in line for the company. However, I plan on letting her live her life as the way she wants." Flame said.
"Then how do you know this dweeb?" Muscle Hooves ask.
"I was a good friend of Rainbow parents, mostly her father. I promise them that I'll watch over their only foul for as long as I live." Flame Thunder said.
The other pegasi look at her and Rainbow just brush it off.
"Anyway, we are join by two more guests today. Dr. Elector the stallion who will show you the machine he been working on." Flame Thunder said as a yellow pegasus with a white mane and tail and a ball of electricity as his cutie mark, step up.
"Good Day, I hope you will all like this trip." He said.
"And also joining us is Captain Spitfire from the Wonderbolts." Flame Thunder added.
"Spitfire?!" Rainbow shouted.
"You got it kid. Didn't think I'll show up here did you?" Spitfire said as she walk up next to her.
"Spitfire, your suppose to be over here." Flame Thunder said smiling.
"Can't I surprise a pegasus who could take over for the Wonderbolts one day?" Spitfire ask, surprise Rainbow even more.
"Well now that we are together, let get on with the trip." Dr. Elector said.
"Yes of course, follow me please." Flame Thunder said and all the Pegasi went inside the factory.
"As you already know, Pegasi has been taking care of the weather since before Equestria was found. Back then, Pegasi had trouble making the weather back then and had to work twice as hard to get the weather they needed done. Today, we have a better chance. The machines we use help make the weather that is needed, leaving the delivering to us." Flame Thunder explain as they walk through the factory.
"Until today that is." Dr. Elector added, "I created a machine that will let any pony make the weather they want and send it to the area it needs to go to."
"But doesn't that make the pegasi a bit useless?" Rainbow ask.
"I understand what you mean, my machine may make and transport the weather that the pegasi needed, but they will still be in charge of the weather. It build to help pegasi, not replace them." Dr. Elector explain.
"Rainbow does have a point doc. I think it best if you have one machine for now until the Princesses approve of the idea." Spitfire said.
Dr. Elector growl for a second before he calm down.
"I'll think about it." He said and he lead them into the room where his machine was.
"Here we are, Weather Maker 2,000." He said, showing them it.
It was big machine with two poles coming out of the top and bend down to point on the platform. There was two controls boxes on each side. Rainbow took out her note book and started to write notes down.
"Sir, we are ready to start the testing!" One of the works call out.
"Ah, yes, Mr. Thunder could you please have the students move out of the room? I don't want them getting hurt." Dr. Elector said.
"Of course, follow me please." He said and lead all of the students out.
All, but Rainbow Dash who was still writing down notes, follow Flame Thunder out. She hope that she can have extra credit for it and didn't hear Flame Thunder. Rainbow walk forward a bit and her hoof got caught on a cord and she trip and feel in the middle as it started up.
"How is it?" Dr.Elector ask.
"It at 100% sir." The worker said.
"Good, start it up." He said and turn to the class.
"Ok, it starting. And you all are free to see how it works and..." He said before hearing a scream fill the air.
Lighting Dust eyes widen as she knew that scream. She ran towards the window and saw Rainbow Dash trap in a electric field being shock throughout the whole thing.
"RAINBOW DASH!!!" She shouted getting her father to come over.
"Shut it down!" Flame Thunder order.
"We can't! It has to make a weather in to stop it!" The worker said.
"Elector! Turn...it...OFF!" He yell.
"I can't!" He said.
As Rainbow kept screaming she started seeing the patterns of the weathers, how the made and how they are use. Then the electric field shot out as the machine explode. Lighting Dust ran towards the room with her father, and her class, right behind her. Flame Thunder open the door and they started digging through the wreck of the machine. They stop as the heard a piece move and Rainbow step out. Her fur coat was a mess and she was cracking with electricity over her body and her mane move as if there was wind. Even her body look wet as if it was rain on. Rainbow look at them for a bit long then pass out.
"Get this Pegasus to the hospital now!" Flame Thunder order his workers.
Lighting Dust and Flame Thunder sat in the waiting room, hoping that Rainbow was ok. They had trouble touching Rainbow as the electric kept shocking their hooves. Thanks to the rubber gloves, they had in case a Thunder Cloud gave out too much lighting, they were able to carry her to the hospital. After telling the doctors what happen and gave them rubber gloves, Rainbow was taken and was being look over. Lighting Dust sigh as she waited. She and Rainbow Dash was friends since fillyhood. Hers and her Dad's were best of pals, She also knew that her Dad fell for Rainbow mom once, but he was ok with once Rainbow dad marry her. Lighting Dust look at the ceiling hoping that Rainbow would be alright.
Flame Thunder was furious at himself, He promise Striker that he watch over his only daughter and he let him down. He knew if Daring was here, she would be furious at him as well. Flame had fire Dr. Elector for ignoring the number one rule of the factory, make sure all rooms are clear before starting anything. He look down hoping Rainbow was going to be alright.
They turn at the sound of hoof-steps as one of the doctors walk up to them.
"How is she?" Flame Thunder ask.
"Well, she's fine, but what ever happen to her it making her unstable. If she doesn't find a away to stable whatever is inside her, she may not make it." He said.
Lighting Dust eyes widen in surprise as Flame Thunder sigh.
"Thank you doctor." He said.
"You can go see her if you want." The doctor said.
"Thank you again, doctor." Flame Thunder said and they went to find the room Rainbow was in.
Rainbow open her eyes to see that she was in the hospital. She look around before raising her hoof to see electric over it. She could also see that her fur coat was wet. Rainbow got up and notice a thunderbolt necklace near her bed.
"A gift? Who would send them something when I'm in the hospital?" Rainbow asked and pick it up.
Rainbow look at it and place it on. To her surprise, the electric stop and her fur coat was now dry. Her mane fell in her eyes, which she just brush it back with her hoof to fix it. Rainbow stood up and started stretching. The door open and she saw both Lighting Dust and Flame Thunder walk in.
"Rainbow!" Lighting Dust said and hug her friend.
Flame was surprise to see that the electric around Rainbow was gone, in fact Rainbow fur coat didn't look wet, her mane wasn't moving as if there was wind around, in fact she look just fine.
"Rainbow? How did you get all stuff on you stable?" He ask.
"Not sure, I found this necklace and when I put it on, I just felt great. Rainbow said pointing to it.
Lighting Dust look at it and saw it was a thunderbolt.
"Wow, talk about matching our cutie marks." She said.
"Good to see that your ok Rainbow Dash, I'm going to take you off of school for a few days to make sure nothing else happens to your and the others students don't get hurt if they act up again." Flame Thunder said.
Rainbow nods, before seeing that pattern of a rain cloud flash through her eyes and how it was made.
"Rainbow? Are you ok?" Lighting Dust ask.
Rainbow shook her head and said, "Yeah, I'm fine."
Flame Thunder paid for Rainbow's fee in the hospital and was release at the same time. Flame Thunder took Rainbow back to her home and stop her from going inside.
"Rainbow, I want to take it easy for a while ok?" He said.
"I know. It was weird today, I take some notes for extra credit, trip in the machine and get zapped, waking up with electric, water and wind all over me, finding a necklace that makes me normal, you get my point." Rainbow said.
"Yes, but please Rainbow. You must take it easy for real. I'm giving you a whole week from school so you can recover. I'll let your teachers know and Lighting Dust will bring your homework over so you two can study." He said.
"Thanks, Flame." Rainbow said and walk inside.
Rainbow decide that she needed a nap after what happen and thought a cloud would be better then a bed. Her necklace glowed and a cloud appear in front of her.
"Whoa! Where did that come from?" She asked herself.
Rainbow then yawn and look at the cloud.
"I'll worry about that later, I'm tried after what happen today." She said and lay down on it.
Dr Elector sat in his office in his house and look up to see some of his workers enter the room.
"Hey boss, sorry about your job." One of them said.
"It doesn't matter, that machine was a failure anyways." Elector said.
"I heard that a pegasus fell in as it started up." Another one said.
"Does that means it got the some powers as you boss?" An third one ask.
"It possible, but unlike if she even survive her powers. After all, I'm the only one that can do so." Elector said.
"I got an idea boss, why do you bring the pegasus in? Have her join us, teach how to control her new found powers." The second thug said.
Elector thought about it and said, "Mace, my good friend, that a wonderful idea. But we need to wait until she show her powers. We got to make sure we don't get the wrong one. I haven't learn the name of the pegasus fell in, but I do know she close to Flame Thunder."
"Thanks boss." Mace said, smiling.
"Mace, come up with an idea?" The third thug ask.
"He normally too stupid to think of something like that." The first one agree.
"Now, now gentle-colts, Mace can come up with a plan every now and then. Take the time to enjoy it, before he returns to his stupid self." Elector said.
"That's cold boss." Mace said, his smile turning into frown.
"So you want us to take care of some busies while we wait?" The first thug ask.
"Yes, do whatever you want. I'm going to take a nap. It was a long day and I need my rest." Elector said.
"Sure thing boss, sleep well." Mace said and the thugs left the room.
"Hpmh, idiots. I know just who fell in. I have to wait until Rainbow Dash survive her powers." Elector said as he raise his hoof and electric cover it.
He look out the his window and smile. The weather call for a rainy day for the ground below and he was going to give it to Cloudsdale instead.
"Hope you can stop this Rainbow Dash." He said and held his hoof out.
Rainbow awoke after a 20 minute nap, feeling like herself again.
She flew towards her fridge and open it. She took out some milk and drink it. She stop as she heard a knock on her door. She put the milk away and went to it. She open the door to find two officers at her door.
"Can I help you?" Rainbow ask them.
"Rainbow Dash, the daughter of the weather pony Rainbow Striker and the adventurous daughter of Daring Do?" One of them ask.
Rainbow eyes widen in surprise. She knew her parents was a weather pony and an adventure pony, but how did they know she was their daughter? Her mom stop by once a year to see Rainbow until her dad pass away.
"Yes, is there a problem?" She answer and asked back.
"We need you to come to the office. It important." The other said.
Rainbow look confuse, but nods anyways. She shut her door and follow them. They flew until she reach the CPD building. They took her inside and she saw Captain Soarin.
Soarin was once a Wonderbolt himself until he hurt his left wing. He retired and started working at the CPD in order to help Cloudsdale. He was also the fillyhood friend of Spitfire.
"Ah, Rainbow Dash. Welcome." He said.
"Uh, hi Soarin." She said.
"Thank you boys, I'll take from here." He said to the officers and took Rainbow to his office.
"So Rainbow, I heard about what happen to you in the weather factory. Are you ok?" He said.
"Yeah, a little rest and I'm back to my old self." Rainbow said.
"Good, good. Now for the reason why your here." Soarin said.
"I didn't do anything wrong." Rainbow said, thinking she was in trouble.
"I know. It just that the machine you saw, was it build to make and transport weather to the place it needs to be at?" He ask.
"Yeah, it got destroy when I fell in it. I'm surprise I survive being zap and exploded on." Rainbow answer.
And was the one working on it name Dr. Elector?" He ask again.
"Yes, Flame Thunder told me that he fire him after failing to make sure the room was clear before staring it up.
"I see. Rainbow listen, if you ever see Elector again, don't trust him. He build a machine like the one before and he got caught in the same thing as you did. He can make the weather with his own thoughts and do what ever he wants with it. We been trying to take this guy down for years but we can find the place he lives. Not even his goons can tell us." Soarin explain.
"Really?" Rainbow ask.
He can make his own weather? I wonder if I can do the same thing. She thought before Soarin spoke up.
"Rainbow, please be careful." He said.
"Right. Thanks for the warning Soarin, I'll tell Lighting Dust and Flame Thunder about him." Rainbow said.
"Rainbow, those something I need to tell you that your father told me." Soarin said stopping her.
"What that?" She ask.
"With great power, comes great responsibility." Soarin said.
Rainbow could never forget those words. It was her father catchphrase, hearing them again made her smile.
"Sure, Thanks again Soarin." She said and walk out of the office.
Rainbow flew back home and look at her thunderbolt necklace. It was keeping her new found weather powers until control and if Elector was just as bad as Soarin said, then she got to help. But she can doing it as Rainbow Dash, no she had to be some one else. A mare that can be like a hero, can be look up to, a mare that can use her powers to stop evil. Rainbow land near her house and walk in side. She look around and pull out some cloths she had save under her bed. She got a pair of scissor and got to work.
She was finish after a few hours and look at her new outfit. It was black with white the bottom and her top was the same way, She put thunderbolts on the hooves and smile.
"Now I need a new name." She said and thought about it.
"Hm, since I can created my own weather, I need a name that fits it. Let's see....Weather mare? Nah! Thunder? No, I can make more then that no doubt. Zapp? Yeah that sounds good." Rainbow said thinking over the names.
"When I wear this suit, I'll be the Mare of Weather, Zapp!" Rainbow said as her necklace glowed.
