Light And Shadow
Prologue: Meet Me At Midnight
Load Full StoryNext ChapterIt was almost sundown. 7:00, I think. I smiled at the orange sky upon my castle balcony. My beautiful day was going to soon come to an end. Luna was standing right next to me. She nodded at me.
"I will do the lowering of the sun and the raising of the moon for you sister." she said. She was still learning how to speak normally. She was doing good progress, no more 'thy's and 'doth's and all that fancy speak. I looked at the sky again, and then glanced down to the somewhat quiet streets of Canterlot. They were usually busy with tourists and shoppers. But alas, there was a tinge of heartache deep within me. For many years, I had been waiting for a certain Unicorn. A long lost friend and a long lost enemy. "Sister?" Luna asked. "Is something wrong?" I snapped out of my horrid trance.
"W..what?" I said with a smile, trying to conceal any of my thoughts from her. I suddenly noticed that Luna was sort of...looking at my mouth. "What, Luna?" I asked, curiously.
"Your mouth, sister." Luna whispered awkwardly. She pointed to her mouth, as if she was trying to tell me something. I suddenly noticed a weird, watery thing splop on the floor. From my mouth. I had drooled while thinking about my beloved. Luna glared at me. I blushed, and wiped my mouth with my hoof quickly. "You could have used a napkin." Luna said, annoyed.
"Oh, sorry," I quickly lied. "I was looking at the sun and it was so pretty and...um..." I sweated bullets. She would know my secret if I failed to act natural. "You can...um...do your thing with the sun....now. Okay, see you, BYE!" I sprinted back into the hallway. When I knew Luna could not hear, I sighed loudly with relief. "By Princess Platinum's crown, that was close!" I panted. "I think I need to wash my face!" I was exhausted from the day, besides my close call. For starters, I actually allowed tourists to visit the castle for a change. I regretted that sooner than I thought. Tens of thousands of ponies flocked in my castle, wanting a glimpse of me and my sister. And the requests! Oh, the requests the ponies wanted! They wanted me to show them pictures of the real Clover the Clever, Commander Hurricane, Princess Platinum, Chancellor Pudding, and Smart Cookie. Some even wanted to send them to the moon to see what it was like! No wonder Canterlot was nicknamed 'City of the Many People'. Before I could recall more stressing memories, I was smacked in the face by a hard white wooden surface. (Sorry, did not recognize it yet.) When I recovered from the harsh blow, I realized that I had faceplanted into the royal bathroom's door. I must had been caught up in my stressful day's events! I sighed. The relaxing feeling of cold water on my face would make up for it a lot. I turned the doorknob with my magic, and walked in. Everything seemed to slow down. The sink was getting closer and closer. I could almost hear it's calls! Sweet relief would be on my face in no time at all....
SLAM!
The door suddenly closed behind me, startling me beyond compare. my wings squeezed my skin, locking in their closed position. I stopped walking to the sink, and was snapped out of my lovely trance. But I didn't continue walking. Why? I didn't buck the door on accident. I was sure of it. Something had slammed it shut. I rushed over to the doorknob, and jiggled it. Locked. I was trapped. But suddenly...
"Celestia?" a dark, raspy voice whispered. I relaxed a little bit. I knew this voice. My heartache ebbed away.
"Shadow?" I replied, shocked.
"Please don't call me that," the voice replied. "It makes me feel embarrassed." I smiled. Whatever seductive words that would come out of his mouth would seal my fate. "Celestia?" he asked.
"Yes?" My fate was sealed.
"Meet me at midnight."
