The Violet Ring
Arrival
Load Full StoryNext ChapterA shy, yellow (almost creamlike) pegasus mare with a rosy pink mane named Fluttershy had just recieved an invitation for a party, a party in Canterlot, as had her friends at about the same moment. They would all go together. Fluttershy went to sleep, her mental state the same as it was the next morning when she woke up. She ate a large, hearty breakfast fit for a pony, and then said goodbye to her fluffy pet bunny named Angel. He could be abrasive, but he really had a heart of gold. She then left for her train. It would arrive at 7:43, 22 minutes from now. Luckily, she didn't live far from the station, which was about a quarter mile away and was always in a spotless, well-maintained state. She started walking, and was about as tired as when she arrived because she was full of energy from her large breakfast. She met with her friends at the station platform, all waiting for her. They had woken up earlier and arrived earlier as a result.
There was Twilight, who was lavender, with a navy blue mane with a lone raspberry streak. Her eyes were purple. She was very smart, the smartest pony of the last 1000 years. She had become an alicorn princess as opposed to a unicorn after a certain incident earlier in the year. She was looking forward to the party because she would get to see her absolutely beautiful sister-in law, who was named Cadance. She didn't normally get to see Cadance because she lived in the Crystal Empire, where she ruled it as the destined Princess of Love. Cadance had a pink coat and a tricolor mane. She was also an alicorn. She was usually honest, but not as honest as Applejack.
Applejack was an orange-colored earth pony with green eyes. She was honest, strong and hardworking. She worked on a farm and always wore her trademark slightly worn brown hat. She had a younger sister who would have been coming, but she had been sick. While Applejack was generous, she wasn't as generous as Rarity.
Rarity was the town's fashionista, as well as a unicorn with powerful magic of a cyan hue. She had a white coat and an artificially curled purple mane. She could be bossy at times, but she had a generous heart. She was as loyal as Rainbow Dash, a light cyan pegasus with a rainbow mane. She worked to clear the weather and was always trying to join the Wonderbolts; the best stunt fliers in Equestria. Rainbow thought she was on that level, but she was not, and wouldn't be for a very long time. She was nearly as enthusiastic as Pinkie Pie.
Pinkie Pie was the party pony. She was all about parties and laughter. She was pink, with a mane and tail nearly the color of Twilight's six-pointed star cutie mark. That star signified magic, which was her former element of Harmony, Magic. Pinkie had a party cannon which could be used to quickly decorate, but she had left it at home because it wasn't her party so she didn't need it. Pinkie was enthusiastic for this party, because it was an experience she could learn from. The party wasn't as formal as most Canterlot parties, like the Grand Galloping Gala, which was for the best as Pinkie had hated the Grand Galloping Gala.
The train was going to arrive in ten more minutes. Fluttershy wasn't particularly enthusiastic about this party. She was mostly going to make her friends happy. And also to see Twilight's brother. He was really handsome, even if he was already married, to Cadance. Fluttershy envied Cadance for being married to Shining. He was extremely handsome, strong and smart, even if he had a tendency to overwork himself.
The six enter the train without flair and sit across from a bluish pegasus mare, who happens to be going to the same party.
"Hey, my name's Shining Aria. I'm also going to the party tonight. I'm so excited! How about you?" She gushed in an overly enthusiastic fashion.
The mane six doesn't answer her immediately because they knew of her rather unsavory reputation around Canterlot, leading to a brief awkward silence broken by Pinkie.
"I'm excited because I don't usually go to this kind of party!" Explodes Pinkie in an explosive burst of enthusiasm and words.
"This kind of party?" The mare asks, batting an eye.
"Not that kind of party!" Pinkie counters, with a disturbed look.
"..." Aria doesn't respond, obviously, that was the wrong response.
"I'm sorry..." Pinkie uses.
"It's okay. My reputation is always one step ahead of me. I'm used to it." Aria looks as if she's about to cry. Pinkie goes over to her and puts her hoof around her, quietly muttering whispered encouragement to the melancholy mare, mentioning all the good things about her.
They stay that way for the rest of the train ride, seemingly unmoving. At the final stop—Canterlot—the seven get off of the train in a simple, quiet fashion, as if her melancholy had spread. The four of them search out the mansion where the party was. It was black and ancient. It was huge, nearly as big as the castle. It had a large carved obsidian moon above and obsidian pillars around the huge main entrance, easily 3 times their size. The seven assume that it is the correct entrance, so they slowly, cautiously walked up to it, as quietly and stealthily as possible.
The seven are about to open the huge, ominous door, but then, it swings open, seemingly of its own accord, revealing a smug pegasus butler. He had a cloudy grey mane and tail, which complemented his off-white coat very well. He was clearly well groomed, and thought highly of himself for having successfully acquired this job. He had, unknown to all, a secret plan that he would put into action on this very night, during the party his employers had organized, as it was the perfect opportunity for him. It would be magnificent. And it had to remain a secret, or else it wouldn't work.
