The Flash (New EQ!) Issue #0: Quick as a Flash
In a large underground test lab in a concealed part of the Equestria Center for the Arcane Sciences, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna were bearing witness to the first test of something called the mega-spell. The idea for this kind of spell was to impact a large area. "How's the test going, Dr. Thorn?" Celestia asked. Dr. Thorn, one of the top scientists of his area (Theoretical/Experimental Physics), was at a machine, examining data that the "bomb" (what the vessel of the mega-spell was called) emitted. "It all seems well, Princess" he replied. Luna sighed.
"Let's hope it stays that way". Dr. Thorn and his assistants flicked a few switches. "The mega-spell shall be activating soon, Princesses. I recommend standing back". The Princesses stood back.
"Remind me, Dr. Thorn, what shall this spell do?" Luna asked.
"Ability enhancement. It enhances one of a pony's abilities. Such as magical power, control over weather, sheer power, or even a pony's natural speed!" Dr. Thorn explained.
"Let's hope it works" Celestia said, worried. Suddenly, the bomb exploded with a big flash. When everyone in the room came too, Dr. Thorn ran to his equipment to check the results. "It all seems fine at the-" he was cut off by some loud beeping noises. He checked his equipment again. "Uh... we have a problem".
"What sort of problem?" Celestia asked, worried. Just then, a scroll appeared in front of her. She used her magic to open it.
Princess Celestia,
We have a large, unscheduled storm covering all of Equestria! We need you and Luna to stop the storm with your magic. Please help us!
The Royal Guard
"We have to go, Luna" Celestia said. "I proclaim that the mega-spell project cancelled" and with that, Celestia and Luna began leaving the lab. "Wait!" Dr. Thorn stopped them. Celestia and Luna turned to the scientist. "Since the mega-spell is now a storm, the only ponies that will be affected are those who are struck by lightning" he explained.
"Let us hope no-one is struck then" Luna said with a sigh. And with that, the two princesses left. Dr. Thorn let out a sigh of defeat. "Turn everything off" he instructed. His assistants turned all the equipment off. They left the room, and Dr. Thorn was still there when the lights went of. Then he smiled. It was done.
The storm that the mega-spell became was spreading. Everypony rushed inside, scared of what this unscheduled storm would bring. One of these ponies was Fluttershy. When the storm came to Ponyville, she rushed into her cottage and slammed the door shut. She checked on all her animals, making sure they were all okay. When she found out they were, she calmed herself, went into the kitchen, and started making lunch for herself and Angel. What happened next happened so quickly. The windows shattered, the stove blew up, and the last thing Fluttershy saw was a lightning blot coming towards her.
"...Fluttershy..." a voice said. Fluttershy began to open her eyes. "...Fluttershy" Twilight said, worried. Fluttershy's eyes fully opened. And their was Twilight Sparkle. "Are you okay?" Twilight asked.
"Y-Yeah" Fluttershy said, her head hurting like Tartarus. Fluttershy slowly got up. Flash Sentry, Twilight's coltfriend, walked out of Fluttershy's kitchen with a bowl of soup. "Hey Fluttershy! How are you doing?" he asked.
"O-Okay..." Fluttershy answered.
"What happened? We heard a loud bang and we ran over as quickly as we could! When we got here, you were just lying on the ground" Twilight explained.
"U-Umm... I know this is impossible, s-seeing h-how I survived it, but... I-I thing I was... struck by lightning..." Fluttershy looked at the ground.
Twilight's eyes opened wide. "You were... struck... by lightning?" Twilight asked.
"I... think so..." Fluttershy replied.
3 minutes and 37 seconds later Twilight had Fluttershy hooked up to one of her science-y machines in Twilight's basement laboratory. Twilight was checking readings, looking at flashy thing and other science-y stuff. Twilight walked over to Fluttershy. sheets of techno-bable in her hooves. "Nothing seems to be wrong with you..." Fluttershy gave a sigh of relief. "But your leg muscles have... doubled in size".
Fluttershy gave a scared look. "Will I be okay!?" she demanded answers.
Twilight stepped back. "Yes, you'll be fine" she reassured her. Fluttershy gave another sigh of relief. Twilight unhooked Fluttershy from the machine. Twilight walked over to a section of books. She took one from the shelf with her magic.
"I really don't know how this is possible! No offence, but you should be dead!". Fluttershy winced at the statement. She didn't want to be dead.
A crack was heard.
Next thing the two ponies knew, Spike was falling through a hole in the roof. Fluttershy looked at the events unfolding in horror, wishing she could do something.
Then something strange happened.
Time started to slow down.
Fluttershy looked around. She seemed to be moving at normal speed. Then she remembered Spike. She took the opportunity to fly up, take Spike out of the air and give him to Twilight. She landed on the ground. She looked back at Twilight and Spike. They were both staring at her in shock. "D-Did I do something wrong?" she asked, back against a wall.
"Fluttershy, you were moving at speeds even faster than Rainbow Dash!" Twilight explained. "And you saved Spike!".
"Like a superhero!" Spike exclaimed. Fluttershy ran over to the two, again going super fast. "Are you okay, Spike!?" she asked, worried.
"I'm fine, Fluttershy" Spike replied. Fluttershy gave a sigh of relief (I'm sensing a pattern here). "You know what, Fluttershy?" Fluttershy turned to Spike, who was now heading upstairs. "You could use this new power. Become a superhero! Fighting bad guys and saving ponies who need help!".
"I don't really like hurting other ponies, whether they're good or bad" Fluttershy said.
"You don't need to fight them! You can just rush in with your super speed, grab the ponies who need saving, take them to safety, then rush back, grab the bad guys, and take them to the guard!" Spike explained.
"Umm... I'm not sure-" Spike grabbed Fluttershy and rushed out the door with her.
"You want me to make what?"
"A superhero costume, for Fluttershy!"
Spike just told Rarity that he wanted her to make a costume for Fluttershy, given that she had to become a superhero.
"Is this true, Fluttershy?" Rarity asked Fluttershy. Fluttershy nodded.
"What is this superpower you have?" Rarity asked. And Fluttershy was out the door. 5 seconds later, she was back. "Where did you go?" Rarity asked.
"Canterlot, I think" Fluttershy responded. Rarity's mouth gaped open. The she smiled.
"If that's the case, I thing I have the perfect costume for you!" Rarity ran upstairs. A few minutes later, Rarity was back down with a bow. Fluttershy and Spike gave a puzzled look. "It's my own design. I was going to offer it to the Wonderbolts to use. What happens is when you hit a relatively fast speed, the bow unties and wraps around you, creating a costume" Rarity explained. "Just asking, is their any particular colors you have in mind?".
"Uhh... maybe..." Fluttershy thought for a second. Then her eyes opened widely. "Red and Yellow!" Fluttershy exclaimed. "I mean... if that's okay with you...".
"Excellent choice of colors, my dear!" Rarity exclaimed. She went back upstairs. A few minutes later, she came back downstairs. The bow was now a solid red. Rarity put it in Fluttershy's mane. "Try it out!" Rarity said. Fluttershy was about to start running, but they all heard a scream from outside.
A mare was in the hands of two stallions. One was holding her purse, looking through it. The stallion with the purse looked at his partner. "There's nothin' good in 'ere" he said. The stallion looked back at the purse. But their was no purse. "It's gone!". The stallion holding the mare looked at the other stallion. "What!?" he exclaimed. Then a red blur passed them both. And the mare was gone. The stallions looked around, scared. "What was that?" one of them asked.
"The Batmare?" the other replied. The first one chuckled.
"Don't be silly, the Batmare doesn't exist!". Then they both saw a red blur coming strait for them.
The next thing they knew the two stallion were both at the Ponyville Guard HQ, tied up in a rope. Standing above them was a yellow mare, dressed up in a suit recognizable as a Wonderbolt's uniform. But instead of the standard blue, it was a solid red color. The cutie mark for the suit was a yellow lightning bolt. A guard came out. "These two stallion were found trying to steal a poor mare's purse. I managed to save both the mare and the purse" the mare in red explained. The guard looked at the stallions, then the mare in red. "I'm sorry... who are you?" the guard asked.
"I'm... The Flash" the mare in red replied.
"Well, thank you Flash" the guard thanked her.
"You're welcome" and with that, The Flash ran off at super speed. The guard was shocked. He dragged the two stallions inside. "I've had too much to drink" he said.
A mare and a dragon were watching from the distance. "Something tells me that the name 'The Flash' is gonna catch on" Spike said. Rarity nodded in agreement.
