//-------------------------------------------------------// The Lonely Princess -by Sweet Cats- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue I couldn't believe my eyes as the pain of sorrow stabbed me in the chest. I was watching the carriages that were carrying my parents' caskets go down the road, slowly sinking into the fog. A unicorn guard was holding a big umbrella over my sister and I. We had noticed recently after our parents died that when rain gets in our hair, it tends to make our hair go flat. Making it no longer have it's magical flow. Luna leaned on my shoulder, and started to cry into my fluffy coat. As I wrapped my left wing around her, I tried to hold back my own tears, but no matter how hard I tried, they slowly came out of my eyes and landed on top of her head. She wrapped her hooves around my stomach and started to sniffle quietly. "...Sissy?" I didn't reply, mostly because I was afraid of what she was going to ask. In my mind, I was coming up with about five thousand different questions she would ask, and about eighty percent of them I couldn't answer. She just squeezed me tighter before repeating the question. "Sissy?" "....Y-Yes Luna?" I finally had managed to make out two words, and that was pretty hard to do, in my opinion. I wrapped my tail around the back of her, making it go all the way around to my stomach. Luna just cuddled farther into my coat, and it was pretty cold, mostly because of the freezing rain, fog, and wind. "Does this mean we are in charge of Equus now?" she asked as she looked up at me. Her sad face wanted me to die.. Maybe at least then I could be with my mom and dad. "I.. I'm afraid so, my little Luna... But for now, you will have the duties of raising and lowering the moon, like mother used to, while I will have to do the same to the sun, like father did. Except, I will have to do all the other royal duties our parents did, because mother had trained me just in case this would ever happen, yet you have not been yet." "Okay..." she murmured in reply to me. "But who will train me so that we can rule together?" she whispered. "I will have to." "But... But won't all these jobs and chores for you to do, make you always be busy?" "I will still have McGuru to help." I told her with loving eyes. "Who is McGuru? And this means that you can't play with me anymore!" "The Royal Adviser." I stated, finally my tears were coming to a end. "And you can still play with me... But we will only have each other, no mommy or daddy time." "May I meet him, Celly?" I slowly nodded in answer as the guards motioned us to come back inside the castle to make sure we weren't outside for too long, in fear of catching an illness. We are not completely immortal until we are adults, death can still come to us. And the kingdom's newly in charge Princesses dying would be the last thing I would want to come to this land. I kept my wing around her as we walked inside our home, which now felt very empty, without our parents by our side. I could not stop thinking about just having Luna to play with.. Won't I ever get bored with just her and nopony else? I thought to myself as we went around one of the hallways' corners. As the guards led us into the throne room, we saw the servants replace our parents' huge thrones, with two new, specialty ones. One medium sized one, with cushioning that had Luna's cutie mark on it, and a slightly larger one, with cushioning with my cutie mark on it. Luna and I wept as we saw them destroy our parents' thrones. "Sissy, why are we in here?" Luna cried to me as I lead her to the balcony inside of the throne room. "My little Luna," I said to her, "it is time for you to raise the moon and the stars, and for I to lower the sun, even though it is hard to see the sun with all this rain." I stopped crying as I moved the clouds away with my magic so I stare at the sun, my sun. At least I can no longer hurt my eyes from looking at it, because now I have control of it. "Okay.." she murmured to me, snapping me back into reality. "What is wrong, Luna?" "Well, I was hoping.. that... Umm.." "That what?" "That.. You could do it tonight. It feels wrong to do it because it was mother's job. It is her job..." "Luna." "Yes?" she asked as she shrunk to the floor with fear. I did not mean to scare her, she is my sister. My only family left. "No matter how bad things will ever get, we always must do our jobs, and we will never stop being sisters, okay?" "Okay." she whispered as she stood up. She looked directly at the west, and turned to face me. "I'm ready." she stated as she made her horn glow. "Then let's do this." Using all of my power in my horn that I could control, I slowly, lowered the sun, making it sink behind the hills, as Luna raised the moon high into the sky. "I could not be prouder of you, little Luna." I glowed with happiness as we finished, for the first time that week. "And I could not be prouder of you." she giggled as she panted. I know it's hard for her to do, but as she does it, it will get easier. It has to. Right? "My little Moon?"  I asked her as I walked with Luna to my bedroom. "Yes, my big Sun?" "It is time for us to sleep." I said with a yawn. "But how come I am not tired?" she whined. "Oh.. Right. I almost forgot, Moon." "What?" "Now that you control the moon, you also control the dreams.." I said as I opened my bedroom door with my magic. "Which means you have to fall asleep early in the morning and awake in the afternoon." I stated, which she started to shake with fear at. "B-But-" she stammered to me before I cut her off. "I can teach you quickly, it really is simple." I told her as I crawled on to my bed. "When somepony falls asleep, your horn has a chance of lighting up, signaling the pony is having a dream. If it does, and if you want to, you can go into the pony's dream. While you are in the dream, you can do anything! But keep in mind, it is that pony's dream, not your's." "I hope if they are having a nightmare, you stop the nightmare, and give them some advice. Whenever somepony has a nightmare, it tends to be because of something going wrong in their life." I said sleepily as I tucked myself in. "B-But won't a lot of ponies be dreaming of our parents dying?" she said with sadness. "I guess you are right on that.. Try to fall asleep tonight, Luna. Ignore any dreams those ponies are having.." I said as I fluffed my pillow and she got up off my bed to leave. "Oh, and Luna?" "Yes, Tia?" "From now on, you can control your own dreams. And someponies tend to have rare occurrences when they can too. Oh, and goodnight, my little moon." "Okay, thank you for teaching me, Tia. And goodnight. I promise if you have a dream, I will come in and we can have fun together." Luna said to me with a smile before leaving the room and me, alone and empty.
