The Memories of Ancients

"What on earth do you mean, dear?" Eternia almost yelled before he quietened himself for Lyrics sake; the other children brought home and the sisters made to stay in their rooms until notified. "That's physically impossible, even for one of his kind we know nothing of. He said nothing about being able to use magic, only knowing our very... Foundation for... It...." The kings words slowly dried in his mouth.

"I think... I think he was gifted the power of our predicesors." She said almost in shock while she focused on healing and weaving the proper amount of energy into his broken bones to rebuild. Her eyes were open and doubtful of blinking ever again, "I could feel them inside him... I could actually feel the others that we passed; our family's through generations and time... He has every single one of them lost inside him waiting to call out." She took a very deep breath and slowly exhaled as her horn stopped glowing and she used her mouth to cover Lyric in a warm blanket as they watched over him in the throne room.

"That... That can't be, Galaxia. He showed us what he obtained from the lost waterfall and ruins, he showed us the only power he truly had; I don't think it's possible." He said skeptically.

"Do you not trust in my abilities, Eternia?" She worried and asked. His mouth opened and closed rapidly.

"Of course I trust them; I was never able to gain them and only yourself has the brightest of lights and truest of souls. You can feel any's presence... But them?" He asked her in a shallow voice.

"I know how absurd and downright foolish it sounds but that boy has been special since the moment he entered our lives and even before that on his own!" She sat upon her throne with her hooves doing rolling across her temples, "He has the ability if used right to form an entire world on his own..." She slowly opened her eyes and let her hooves fall to her side. "Or destroy an entire one..." As fast as the thought had entered, it instantly disappeared from her mind.

"I worry this will be too much for him, darling. He's still only a child; he's but twelve years old in a castle he made his own by chance... This boy has done something amazing already. He was able to bring us together and create a family for himself." The king looked back to the boy sleeping and nearly cried at the thought, "I don't want this burden upon our child, my love. It's hard enough to bestow our own gifts to our little girls..." The queen looked at her husband with love and admiration; he was the commander of the most vile place that has ever existed, but he shows no emotion of it at all.

"Lyric has already proven himself, my love." The gentle king took his seat beside her in his throne and half-glanced between Lyric and his beloved. "He protected our children- his very sisters not by blood, the friends he met not a day prior. He stood his ground for his beliefs and what was good in this world; he's going to be fine." She finished sternly.

Eternia stared at the calm and happy-go-lucky smile that was plastered on his face while he slept. "You think he ever stops smiling?" He asked as one found it's way to his muzzle.

"I don't think he knows how." The queen slowly relaxed as she watched him sleep; the smile never fading, never wavering from his lips. "I wish we were still that innocent," She began. "...Do you remember the time when you came to my mothers window by accident one night and she nearly lit you on fire for peeping?" She giggled away at the remembrance of past times; happier times of young ages.

His face went red as he chuckled, "Do I ever, love..." He glared at her smugly. "You don't even know what she actually did to me when she caught me, do you?" He started to laugh much to Galaxia's surprise; she hadn't ever known he was caught and shook her head with a calm smile. "She actually picked me up by the tail with her teeth and walked me all the way home to my father and mother; they weren't awake and she didn't want to disturb them so she froze me in place!" He down right bursted into an uproar along with his queen.

"The entire night?! Oh my dear mother, that's so her, leaving you in a time stasis for your parents to find... I can't believe you never told me!" She almost screeched like a little filly at a slumber-party, leaning over the edges of her throne and all.

Lyric's smile only grew as he tried his hardest not to laugh but let out the very smallest of "Aha...hahah..." The rulers turned on a pin and looked straight at the boy lying with a peaceful look, but something didn't seem quite right; the hand covering his mouth wasn't very subtle. As if to know what they were thinking, he opened an eye and looked at them, "Do you know I'm awake..?" He asked a useless question, causing another vast laughter session for the king and queen themselves. Lyric sat up and tossed the blanket upwards, "Awe man, I wanted to hear more stories about dad peeping!" The queen fell back off her throne and left the king to stand and trot over to the bedside.

"You truly are a blessing, you know that, son?" He said as he ruffled his hair and kissed it.

"I try my best!" Lyric told him as he sat and waited for Galaxia to come over. "Do you guys know about them already?" He asked like he had been hiding something under his coat. They exchanged looks of curiosity and partial fright.

"You mean... The others inside you?" Galaxia said as she tried to word it properly for him to fully understand. He nodded slowly with his head lowered and knees to his chest. "Why didn't you tell us before, son? How did you even know about them..?" She wondered as she asked questions.

"They talk to me lots..." He said as his knees laid back down and he stretched out, no longer worried they might chastise him about not revealing the immense secret. "They're my best friends and I didn't want to scare you guys off. You can't tell ponies that you hear constant voices in your head telling you secrets and stories about the old world..." He almost sounded as if it was normal to hear all this.

"You mean you can actually speak with them?!" They both exclaimed in complete shock.

"Well not really, no..." He said as he played with his toes and slowly held onto each one as he talked, "See it's like this; they talk to me throughout the day and night, one at time as they each reveal a little piece of history." He grabbed his big toe and chuckled. "The main one likes to tell me about the ponies and creatures... the second one talks about landscapes allllll the time. The third one just really likes plants and the forth one always tries to get me to do things out of my comfort zone. The fifth one reallllllly loves to talk about words and stuff; she hates it when I said stuff, calls it a filler word but I say it's useful when any other word simply doesn't fit the exact object or emotion you're trying to express... We get in lots of arguments about that but she always wins the debate, haha." As he continued to tell them about the various voices and talks he's had with them, it all started to make sense; the only way he could have even made it this far on his own was with their guidance. The only way he could have found a phoenix egg was by their direction... It all slowly started to add up to the rulers why this child was the way he was.

"You've had teachers guiding you along in life this whole time, haven't you?" He happily nodded and bit his bottom lip gently to show her it was indeed very true. Galaxia softened her features and sat down on her haunches as she was about to ask a question she's always truly wondered. "What are they like?" She asked. "What were they like when they were alive?" Her wonder had gotten the better of her; and who's to blame her when you have a child sized key to the past.
