Snowstorm

The group was surprised when they got off at the station. It was still in middle of spring, but a group of pegasi was busy covering the entire Crystal Empire with a layer of snow.

"What's happening here?" Twilight asked, confused.

"It wasn't this way when I left." Moonlight explained. "I know! Let's find out!" She turned into her Dragon Pony form and flew to one of the pegasi. "Hey, buddy!"

The pegasus turned to her and smiled as he recognized the little dragon-unicorn.

"Hello Moon! Nice to see you're back. Princess Candance was looking for you."

"Oh, I should have warned her about my departure. But it's not like I owe her something. Anything I don't owe even my family."

"That's because you live here more than there, I'd say." The Pegasus accused, laughing.

"Yeah, there's that too. But, may I ask why the snow?"

"Well, as you leave, you shouldn't be aware, but the princesses will be receiving visits here today..."

"Yes, I know. I passed by home, my sister should be here, but she's sick and sent me in her place."

"Well, so that's why: The visits comes from frozen lands near the border and beyond the Empire. They aren't accustomed to hot weather here, so we're trying to maintain a more balanced climate as possible."

"Okay then. You have work to do, I will not hinder, besides, aunt Candie must be worried. See you later!" She nodded and went back to the ground. "Well folks, the snow is only temporary because of the visits."

"Thank you, Moon!" Twilight thanked, glad her friend have bothered to inform her. But it was strange nopony had came over to them yet. Princess Celestia was somewhat overprotective after Moonlight's return. Or perhaps she herself hadn't arrived yet, what was still strange.

"Hey Twilight!" Rainbow Dash's took her from her thoughts. "Race to the castle, are you in?"

The Princess looked at her friends, who were already prepared for the race, except for Fluttershy and Rarity, who just watched.

"Well, I'll walk with Fluttershy and Rarity, if you don't mind."

"If you say so." Rainbow shruged.

"See you later!" Moonlight waved. "Okay, girls... Ready... go!" She shouted and ran along with Applejack and Rainbow Dash, Pinkie went skipping behind them.

"This place is always so wonderful!" Rarity said, after a little walk.

"I had never seen the Crystal Empire covered with snow before. It's really beautiful." Twilight smiled.

Fluttershy just agreed with both, in silence, Spike had fallen asleep in Twilight's back.

"So we will also be able to meet this Lord or is this just for you princesses?" Rarity asked to Twilight.

"I don't know. Princess Celestia's letter didn't give many details. Perhaps Candance can tell us more. But I am worried about Moon's warning."

"What warning?" The other two asked, confused.

Twilight told what she could remember from Moonlight's words early that day, though she avoided mentioning the part about the pirates ponies, she didn't want to scare friends.

"She said it will happen between tomorrow and my birthday. It's more likely to be on my birthday. Believe that if it were tomorrow, Moon would have more information. But I don't know, it seemed like she was hiding something else."

"Maybe she just didn't want to scare you for no reason, dear." Rarity suggested.

"I don't know you, but I'm already really scared." Fluttershy said.

"Come on Fluttershy, you know that Moonlight has a tendency to exaggerate a little in everything. On purpose, some times." Rarity tried to reassure her friend.

"But when she says something is bad, it is certainly bad." Fluttershy replied, frightened.

"She didn't say it was bad." Twilight recalled. "She wasn't sure. Perhaps it's even tomorrow, and this meeting brings good news for all of us." She suggested, reassuring. Rarity nodded.

She had to have a little confidence. But that dream...

"Twilight!"

Fluttershy's call came a little too late, Twilight had stumbled upon whoever was ahead. Spike fell, waking up and looking around confused.

"Are we there yet?" He also asked somewhat sleepy, what Twilight for a moment thought it strange. Spike wasn't of sleeping so late.

"Are you okay, Twilight?"

The princess was surprised to hear her brother's voice, but stood up and smiled at him.

"Hello Shinning! Sorry, I didn't see you there. A little distracted..."

"I realized." He laughed. "We weren't expecting you today." Twilight looked down for a moment, still a little worried, he realized. "Something bothering you, little sister?"

"Not. Nothing." She lied, forcing a calm and confident smile. "Only a little distracted right... I" But what sense was lying? She sighed, lowered her head and replied: "It was just a nightmare." And ended up telling all about her dream and her talk with Moonlight. She didn't even noticed when her three friends continued their way to met the others. When she mentioned the pirates ponies, he seemed to get a little nervous. There was an awkward silence when she finished and Twilight for a moment wished she had the keen Moonlight had to get an idea about what was happening. Her day had been strange, and it was evident something was up

"Come on, Twilight," Shinning Armor finally managed to break the silence. "Moon has been predicting all sorts of disasters last two months. You know she can't predict things so far in advance and none of them happened 'till now. It was just a dream and she's taking advantage of that to distract you."

"Distract me..." Twilight looked confused. "Why?"

This time he laughed.

"You can't even imagine?"

She thought for a moment, then remembered... It was so obvious and she hadn't noticed! Her birthday was in a week. Spike seemed to haven't slept so much, her friends were acting strange, Moon had bothered to pass in Ponyville for no apparent reason... She should be planning some surprise and the others should be involved.

"You're right." Twilight smiled calmer as well. "I should have realized before. Thanks, Shinning."

"Anything for my little sister. Still have work to do, see you later!"

Feeling much better, Twilight flew after her friends. She would not fall into Moonlight's tricks again. But she always seemed so convincing, so safe. Anyway, she should stop listening to the little unicorn.

But then why was she still felt something was very wrong there?

The afternoon went quiet, except for all the preparations for the meeting the next day. She told about her dream to Candace and received the same answer she had earned from her brother. No one else touched on the subject of Moonlight's, probably false, premonition or the pirates ponies for the rest of the afternoon. Still, Twilight wasn't sure about sleeping, but at the end of the day she was so tired she was almost asleep before going to bed. All she wanted was a peaceful, dreamless sleep, but after the almost perfect day, her luck wasn't very high.

In her dream she fought a snowstorm. The little that could be seen of the landscape around her was a white mantle. But for some strange reason the cold didn't seem to affect her so much.

Then the scene changed. The landscape was completely different from the previous. A desert spanned for miles ahead, far away, she could see a pyramid. Then in the sky above the building, came the image of a strange golden eye. Something let out a mighty roar and then she woke up.

It took Twilight a while to realize somepony was knocking at the door. She took a look around the room but Spike was nowhere in sight. Then she sighed and opened the door with her magic. Moonlight was there, with a cheerful smile.

"Time to wake up, sleepyhead princess. The other princesses are already here and the visits aren't taking long. Better go get ready and have breakfast and don't need to thank me for the warning." With that the little unicorn ran excitedly.

Twilight let out a tired yawn. Another strange dream two days in a row and apparently she didn't have time to talk to Celestia and Luna about it before the arrival of Lord Freeze. Anyway she needed to get ready, maybe needed a quick shower and definitely needed something to eat. She didn't know how long she had, so it was better hurry up. She could worry about her dreams later.

But during her breakfast, she noticed a detail that struck her. An ice castle... The mysterious lord of the ice valley... And if Lord Freeze had something to do with her strange dreams?

Well, it was go down and find out. Maybe it wasn't important. Just a dream, as everypony told her.

But why had everypony let her sleep too late? In fact, she would be grateful if they had waken her up before her dream, and early enough to her to don't have to hurry up.

Moonlight perhaps had something to do with the fact. She always had.

"Twilight, it's time!" She heard Moonlight call.

Then she took a deep breath and went to join the other princesses.

They were a small group, two pegasi guards in a ice-blue armor that seemed made of ice, but it was more likely that they weren't, and of course, lord Freeze, a white alicorn with silvery mane.

As he approached where the princesses were, snowflakes began to fall gently around him. Freeze paused for a moment and tried to stop it. He didn't like how his powers got off control in the most inopportune times, although this doesn't happen very often in the valley. But he knew well why was that.

It was about a thousand years since he had left the valley and hadn't seen the princesses Celestia and Luna fror this long. On the other hand, he knew no other princesses, but had already realized that Moonlight was a Dragon Pony, a pony of flames. He was a pony of snows, and the two groups obviously didn't get along very well. The fact that she was so young didn't change much.

And there was Twilight. The moment he saw her she reminded him very much... no. It couldn't be more than a coincidence. He was getting a little paranoid about leaving Snow Glitter alone in the valley for the first time. He had to stop worrying. She was safe, would be fine.

He walked over and made a bow to the princesses, it was answered the same way.

"Majesties!" He murmured. "It is an honor to be back."

"This is our honor to welcome you back, Lord Freeze!" Candace replied cordially.

Moonlight let out a small flame, bored. She was the one who showed any formality in that little meeting. She could feel Freeze's nervousness, a certain fear from Twilight and... Something strange but she not identified coming from Celestia.

Apart from that, Candace seemed worried that everything went perfectly well and for some reason Luna now and then looked at Moonlight, as if expecting at any moment the little unicorn to do something, probably watching for any prank or something she could be up, but Moonlight knew better to not mess around the two elder princesses.

Twilight took a deep breath and tried to remain calm. All she wanted was to ask about the castle in her dream and what it had to do with the newcomers and the place from where they came, and why she had never seen anything about it in all the books she read?

But first, this wasn't the time; second, even if it wasn't a formal meeting like that, it wasn't the best way to get in a stranger; third, something about the way Lord Freeze looked startled for a few seconds let her a little startled about him; And fourth, by being next to the Moonlight she probably was the only one who noticed the low the little unicorn let out, and it was never a good sign.

Unknowingly, they all exchanged a single thought in common: It would be a long day.
