Chapters My name is Lightning Mist, but you can just call me Mist. I was born in Manehatten as a Pegasus a few weeks after the War of
Harmony began. Since the War was just starting it only stretched from Baltimare to Canterlot. It hadn't reached my city yet
thankfully.I was able to live a normal Pony life for a while with my Mother, Father and Brother. We all grew up in a small apartment
near the cost of the city. All was nice and quiet. Until the day I turned six. That day. That day I will never forget.
I had just woken up to my teenage brother, Storm, yelling "Happy Birthday Bro!" at the top of his lungs.
"Be a little quieter next year please."
I told Storm as I sat up and gave him a hug. It was our little brotherly tradition that every year on either of our birthdays we'd say that to get the other brother up.
"Mom and Dad are both out getting your cake but they will be back shortly." Storm explained.
"Awe,now I have to wait?! Why didn't you wake me up when they got back?"
"Well you have to brush your mane anyways
it looks like something just exploded on your head. Mine is short enough that I rarely ever have to brush it but yours keeps growing longer every year. You might want to consider a Manecut Mist."
That was true. My mane did keep growing each year. I wish I had shorter hair like my Brother. His is a yellowish color and kinda spiky. Mine is a bit like the Element of Loyalty's mane at least that's what everypony tells me. Its Dark and Light red but it keeps growing longer at the end. I really did need a Manecut.
"But, Bro! Manecuts scare me. What if they accidentally stab me with scissors?!" I cried.
"Mist.." My brother chuckled "Ponies who give Manecuts are professionals and they work really hard. They wouldn't mess up and stab you. That's crazy!"
I nodded. It was kinda bizarre that I would think something like that would happen.
"But anyway.." Storm asked. "You've learned about the War of Harmony in school right Bro?"
I nodded again.
"Okay. That's good. This will make what I have to say a lot simpler. You see, a few days after your birthday we're going to have to move to the Crystal Empire because of-"
I cut my brother off. "Wait THE Crystal Empire?! I've always wanted to go there. I've heard all about how amazing it is at school! Are we really going to move there?!" I said as I jumped out of my bed in excitement.
"Yes. I'm glad you are so happy about it. I was thinking you would be really sad, but anyways the reason we're moving is that the War has been stretched from Ponyville to FillyDelphia and is slowly extending to Manehatten. This was announced last night when you were already asleep. Mom and me were able to buy a new house up in the Crystal Empire which was lucky because all the houses sold out 5 minutes after that big announcement." My brother explained.
"Wait..so when is the War going to reach the city?" I asked Storm while shaking.
"We don't know. It could be tomorrow, today, or a month from now. No Pony is sure. Also No Pony knows if its an attack from one of the Armies of if its going to be a battle field." He replied.
"I think I know which it will be." I answered as I raised my Hoof to point at the window.
Storm's eyes grew huge as he slowly turned around.
"Mother of Celestia....Mist follow me to the stairs. We need to leave the city now."
Chapter 2: Attack on Manehatten
What we had seen though the window was awful. The FAS Army (Fighters Against Sisters) was attacking our city. We saw
buildings on fire, army members brutally murdering the city's citizens, and The Manehatten troops who always try to protect the
city getting demolished. There was so much blood and flames that I couldn't keep myself together and I started to bawl.
"Mist It'll be okay! We can escape through the building's basement and get out of the city." Storm tried to explain.
"B-But Bro.." I stammered. "What'll happen to Mommy and Daddy?"
He looked at me with tears also in his eyes. In the six years I had lived with his I had never seen him cry
"They are Gone Lightning Mist. I'm sure they would've been home by now. The bakery is only a block from our building."
I sobbed even harder and tears started to fall down Storm's cheeks.
"WE HAVE TO ESCAPE MIST. WE HAVE TO LEAVE WHILE WE STILL CAN!" Storm yelled.
He grabbed my back with his mouth and started to run out of our little apartment.
He turned to the right and made way for the stairwell.
"I can run from here." I stated as me and him bolted swiftly down to the basement.
"I'm sure that there is a way to escape down here I just know it." My brother muttered to himself as we both scouted out the basement.
I ended up finding a small door with a ladder leading to what I believed to be the outside of the city.
I think I found it Storm!" I hollered.
He raced to the area I was at and we both started to climb up the long ladder. Halfway up I looked down
and started to get scared. What if I tripped and fell. What if hurt my back and died. I started shaking and tears welled up my eyes
again.
"I don't think I can do it Storm. I'm just too afraid." I said weakly.
"DON'T GIVE UP!" He yelled at me. "WE HAVE TO
ESCAPE. ITS WHAT MOM AND DAD WOULD WANT. THEY WOULD WANT US TO LIVE. WE HAVE TO KEEP GOING,"
That gave me enough strength to keep climbing. Once we had finally reached the top we realized we were above the shorelines.
The exit wasn't too far away.
"Can you fly yet Mist?" My brother asked me.
"Yes, but I'm not very good at landing yet." I told him.
"Well its better then nothing. Come on lets move the rest of the way through the sky."
Storm launched himself up into with a huge flap of his wings.
I quickly followed him. We were going quite high into the sky. Soon some fog started to appear and I lost
sight of Storm.
"Storm?..STORM?!" I yelled into the sky. No answer. I stopped and looked around. I saw his shadow. Thank
goodness,I sighed in relief . I started to follow Storm again but he was going downwards this time. Were we already outside the
city. As the fog lifted from my vision I saw myself flying right into the middle of Manhatten. I was following an FAS Army member
not Storm! I tried to turn around and look for him but I couldn't control my flying. I was going too fast. I decided to just keep going I
was high enough that no pony could attack me and I can just fly though the exit on lower ground. I kept staring straight ahead not
looking at the intense killing going on below me.
"Just keep Flying. Don't look down." I kept telling myself. "Storm is probably
already outside the city. I just have to be brave. Just this once I have to be-
Then I saw him. Storm. On the ground covered in holes and blood. He was dead.
I turned pale as I saw that dark blue Pegasus with the yellowish hair. Covered in bright red blood and i could faintly see holes on his
forehead and wings. That Pegasus was my brother. "STORM!" I yelled and I lurched to he ground and tried to land the best I could.
I galloped over to the area he was at. "STORM PLEASE STAY WITH ME!" I sobbed as I held his hoof. Storm's mouth opened weakly.
"I went too far ahead and the FAS Pegasi team found me..They shot me down and i fell straight down like a meteor. I-I'm so sorry
that your birthday ended up like this, but you have to leave me and this city. Go towards the exit. Fly to the Crystal Empire. Don't
worry about me..I'll be with Mom and Dad soon." Storm closed him eyes. "I love you Mist.." Were his final words. "I.. I love you
Storm.."
I let go of his hoof. I started to flap my wings and fly forward. I didn't stop. I sobbed harder then ever before and flew faster then ever before. I knew I had to leave. I had to live on for my family I had to do this.
Just then. A bullet flew straight pass me. I turned around and saw a group of FAS Pegasi chasing me. I got scared and didn't think I
had the guts to fly any longer. I was young. I was just a Filly. How would I be able to outrun these Army Pegasi. I felt a sharp pain
burst through one of my wings. I screeched in pain as I began to plummet to what I was thinking would be my death. I closed my
eyes. Is this how it'll all end. I failed my family because I wasn't strong enough. All I was was a coward.
I expected to die but when I
opened my eyes I was flying. Well I wasn't but someone was for me. I looked up and saw a Gray Mare with her hooves wrapped
around me flying as fast as she could. Was I just saved? Did this Pony just risk her life for me? She looked down at me. Her eyes
looked funny. One looking down one looking up.
"It'll be okay little Filly. I'll help you get outta this place." She said to me in a soft tone.
I heard a bullet speeding up to us but she moved to the left and it zoomed straight passed her. This Mare was amazing. She
quickly dodged all the bullets being shot at her. Soon I saw the exit and she sped up. There were tanks and FAS soldiers all
around it.
"Don't worry we will escape." She told me with confidence.
The tanks and soldiers began to fire at us. The Mare flew
straight upwards at breathtaking speed followed by racing back down and moving straight through the exit. I had closed my eyes
not wanting to look down.
"A-Are we out of the city yet?" I asked weakly.
"Yep, we just gotta keep flying till we near the Crystal
Mountains. Then we'll be safe for sure." The Mare replied.
I was about to say thank you but then I dozed off into a deep sleep. I had a dream where I saw my family and me celebrating my birthday like we planned to today. It seemed real. So real..
When I woke up I was on the ground slowly remembering everything that had happened. I was in a cave of some sort in what
seemed to be the Crystal mountains. That Gray Mare was sitting next to me.
" Yay! Your awake." She smiled with glee.
I hung my head still sad about my family.
"T-Thank you for saving me..I thought I was dead for sure." I said slowly as tears filled my eyes yet again.
The Mare moved closer to me and put her wing around me.
"It wasn't a problem at all. I was passing though Manehatten
when FAS started to attack. I knew I had to get out as fast as I could. Then when I saw you falling I just had to save you. I was so
tired of young Fillies like you and Ponies of all kinds getting murdered today that I couldn't just let you die like that."
I buried my head in her chest.
"What's your name Little Filly?" She asked me.
"Lighting Mist, but please just call me Mist."
"That's a cool name! My name is Derpy Hooves but you can just call me Derpy."
"Is it because of your eyes?"
"Yeah..I was born with my eyes not being properly aligned. Because of that I'm
rather clumsy which makes me, Derpy."
"Its nice to meet you Derpy. I hope we can be good friends.
I never had any back at Manehatten so I guess this means your my first. The only people I could call friends were my family but..."
My voice drifted off.
"Did you lose them from the attack?" Derpy asked me with a soft tone. I fought back tears as I nodded.
"I lost my family too. Both my husband and my daughter. We lived in Ponyville which was where the War first began. I barley made
it out alive." She exclaimed as she began to cry.
I lifted my hoof and brushed after her tears. She smiled. Even though we had just
met I felt as if I had already known her for a long time.
"Mist. I have a favor to ask of you." Derpy asked me. I looked up and her and asked her what she needed
"I want you to join our Army the FFS (Fighting For Sisters)! I think you have the guts to become a great solider!"
