My little Step brothers: The flying Costar
Chapter 3: UNEXPECTED Grounding
Previous ChapterNext ChapterIt was morning. Celestia has just began to rise the sun over the horizon. Weather ponies had began to do their jobs. Coming down from Cloudsdale to Ponyville, Canterlot, las pegasus, etc. Equestria had just finished it's year long rain and it was time to clean up.
"Whoo, I just cant wait until all this rain is cleared up. Its been ruining me all year long."
"I honestly doubt that the rain is whats ruining you, Jack. You know as well as everpony on this weather team that you not being able to have a decent marefriend has nothing to do with the rain," another working pegasus said with a joking tone in his voice. Jack just ignored him.
"Ah, shut up,Cleaver, ya big palooka. In fact, why don't ya just fly over here and say that to my face!" Cleaver stopped what he was doing and began to fly slowly towards Jack, with a rather violent expression on his face. Before the two could get any closer, another pegasus pony came in between them and held up his hooves to them.
"Guys, come on. Why do you always have to do this so early in the morning." The pegasus said in a very calm voice as his head shifted back and fourth between two ponies.
Jack, is a yellow pegasus with a pitch black mane, slightly more built than the other two and Cleaver is a tan pegasus with a pitch black mane. Besides for the pegasus between them, these two were brothers.
"I mean seriously, do you even know what day it is? And your acting like this? Shame on you both." The two stallions thought for a second about what the pegasus between them was talking about. Then, like a bolt of lightning, reality struck them and they both face hoofed and the sound echoed throughout the sky.
"Ah, jeez. Look,real sorry, Jerry."
"Yeah. But come on, ya gotta cut us some slack here. You know how we get when were agitated." Once the two were done with their version of what a apology should sound, Jerry put his hooves down and let out a big sigh. They didn't really care and they knew Jerry didn't care one way or the other, he just wanted to hear something. Before he could respond though, Jerry found himself grunting in pain as the two brothers sandwiched him in mid air. Cleaver took it upon himself to give Jerry a powerful noogie.
"Haha! So how does it feel kid?" Cleaver said as he finished the noogie on Jerry's snow white hair. Jack continued where he left off. "First ya marry our sister and now your gonna have a foal! C'mon, be honest. Your ecstatic, you gotta be!" Jerry was too busy cringing in pain as both brothers who were slightly more built than he was. Not to mention the burning sensation on his head. Deciding that they have had their fun, the brothers moved away from the white maned and blue coated stallion. Jerry let out the king of sigh you hear when you've held your breath for too long and began panting while subconsciously flapping his wings. After he caught second wind, he rubbed his still burning scalp.
"Well, guys, I wouldn't really say that i'm ecstatic. More on the lines of really, really nervous. I mean, she is in the hospital now! Not being by her side is killing me. But, we are having a foal and Scenery is in too much pain and the doctors don't want her out of the hospital bed until the baby's born. In fact...I think I remember them saying another week or two! I can't do that! I can't keep our foal away from his mother. That's crazy!" When Jerry was done with his outburst he got a very depressed look on his face and slowly began to work again, forgetting that the brothers where there.
Feeling somewhat sympathy for his step brother, Jack put a reassuring hoof on Jerry's shoulder. "Look, Jerry. I don't know if Scenery's told ya this, but...I know full well what its like to be a dad. True. You could say that I wasn't the best...heh...in fact if you said anything along those lines, I would call ya way too polite." Jack gave a hearty chuckle as he continued. Both Jerry and Cleaver remained silent. Though it wasn't something they would ever expect from him, one things foe sure: neither of them wanted him to stop. "But, in all seriousness, I've seen all kinds of parenting. Some that overshadowed my own and some that made mine look like running through a flat field of daisy's. And even though it really isn't saying much, but...at the last second, I gave it everything I could, but it wasn't...I-I was too late to try." Jack was beginning to tear up slightly, but quickly wiped away the sour tears. He didn't want the two to think any less of him. Though...it may have been a little late to think that. Jack cleared his throat and continued. "Listen, Jerry, when I first met ya I didn't like ya. That should't be news. But it wasn't because you were with Scenery. It was because in that moment that I met ya, I knew that you possessed better qualities than I could ever hope for. And those qualities are gonna make you a great father. You understand me?" Jack tried to put authority in his voice but ot didn't work. It just sounded like he was fighting back the tears with all his might. And losing. Jerry didn't hold back anything, he just let the emotions flow. As did Cleaver, but he decided to hide them as well. Also failing.
"Thanks Jack. I-It really means a lot that you did that. Honestly." Jerry then pulled Jack into a hug. Jack tried to retain what dignity he had left, but something inside him said, 'Ah, screw it' and he returned the hug.
"I know you may have not been the best father. But let me tell you somethin'. Jerry lifted his head slightly from Jacks shoulders. "You"re gonna be equestrias greatest uncle." And at that moment, the word 'manly' was cast aside as all three of the pegasus started to bawl.
"Eh, what about me?!" Cleaver manged to get out as tears came down his face like waterfalls. Jerry and Jack both opend the hug and extended their fore hooves to him.
"You're in second place ya pansy! Get over here!" Cleaver rushed towards the sobbing stallions to share the moment.
Off in the distance, another weather pegasus came over to the group. She was rushing and panting, not to mention didn't have much time to slow down as she caught up with them. She spoke as if she just ran a marathon and didn't have time to breath. "J-Jerry..I have to *pant* tell you something." Moments after he finished the bromance, Jerry rushed over to the panting pegasus.
"Hey, Nickle, whats wrong?"
"Nothing....is wrong....its..."
"We gotta work double shift again"
"...no.."
"Is ponyville supposed to be expecting another storm? You know I helped with the last one, I don't want to do it again."
"No...it has nothing...to do with...the weather."
"Ha! So my last date wasn't a one night stand. In your face Cleaver. You were wrong!" Nickle turned sharply to the two brothers as if oxygen was once again breathed into her.
"No you idiots! Scenery is in labor!" She shouted as oxygen left her lungs once again and she fainted. Jerry was already holding her so there was no worry of falling. Neither Jerry nor the two brothers said anything, but eventually Jerry broke the silence.
"Scenery's in labor? Scenery's in labor! You hear that guys?!" Jerry turned to the brothers with an overjoyed expression and they had the same.
"Oh we heard it alright!"
"Yeah! You're gonna be a dad." They all cheered and hollered as if they wanted all of equestria to hear the news.
" Oh my celestia this is great! Hear take this one, I gotta go." Jerry hoofed over the passed out mare to Cleaver and he set off. And then stopped in mid air meters away from the group.
"Hey, Jerry what's wrong?" Jack asked as Jerry just hung there for a few good seconds before saying anything.
"I'm gonna be a dad...." Jerry passed out in the sky, the news being too overwhelming for him and Jack caught him and shakes life into him.
"Hey, hey, hey. C'mon now. Can't be an uncle if you're dead."
"Huh...I..wha...Oh! Scenery, foal, gonna be a dad! Right, gotta go guys!" Jerry said as he zoomed off. The brothers just hung their, waving him off.
"What do you mean, you wont be an uncle? You'll still be one, you just wouldn't have a step brother."
~At the Cloudsdale Hospital~
The Cloudsdale hospital was relevantly empty. A couple patients hear and there but other than that, today was a slow day. As it was approaching for visiting hours to be over, Jerry burst through the double doors of the hospital and flew to where his expecting wife was.
"Sir, there is no flying through the hospital halls!"
"Sorry. Gonna be a dad!" The mare who called out to him continued to protest but Jerry was too far away to hear. He soared through the halls of the hospital occasionally knocking over supplies and other nurses. He apologized every time they fell over.
Jerry finally made it to the room. He landed and opened the door, then ran inside forgetting to close it back.
"I'm, here! I made it!" Jerry trotted into the room. There were at least four nurses in there and one doctor. The doctor realized his arrival and put a hoof on his shoulder with a smile.
"And just in time to." The doctor led Jerry through the room while excusing the nurses to the bed where Scenery was laying in. Scenery, like her brothers, had a pitch black mane and a pink coat. She smiled as she realized Jerry was finally in the room with her and nuzzled her mussel onto something she was holding her hooves. The doctor finally got to the bedside and allowed Jerry to get closer as he stood in place with the nurses. " Mr. Spring, It would be my honor to congratulate you on your healthy baby colt." Jerry was speechless as he went over to the bedside to see his wife hold up the foal. Jerry was beginning to cry again. The foal looked so beautiful. He had a chocolate coat and it looked like he had the same mane as Jerry. Only it looked like tiny little white clouds.
"I'm so jealous." Scenery said as she turned her attention from the foal to her husband. "Not only does he have your mane, he has your eyes too." No doubt about it. Jerry and the foal had the same pink eyes. And though he couldn't really explain it he saw something else in his eyes. Something extraordinary. "The only thing that even resembles me on him is the mussel. But, I guess that's enough." Jerry gently pressed his lips against his wife's fore head. She obviously hasn't quite recovered yet after giving birth.
"So whats his name?"
"Actually, I wanted you here for that. You were always the best in that department." She said as she gave off a small chuckle, that soon turned into a cough. The nurses all came closer to her but Scenery stopped them by holding out her hoof as her other was over her mouth. "Its okay, I'm fine."
"Well, okay...um..." Jerry thought for a moment before deciding on a name. "Ha, I got it. How about we name him after your grandma?"
"Hmm? You mean Grandma Cammy? But that's a mares name..." Scenery let out another small chuckle and sighed. " I don't know if its the drugs or your influence is finally starting to overwhelm me. But I love it..." Scenery reached for the foal and Jerry gladly gave him to her. "Cammy Spring ll....that has a great ring to it..." Scenery's eyes began to get more heavy and she let out a few more coughs. Before Jerry could say anything one of the nurses in the room walked up to him.
" Sir, I am very sorry to say, but there is only five minuets until visiting hours are over. After that, i'm afraid we can no longer allow you in this room." Jerry had his mouth hung open for a good second before sighing.
"Hey don't worry." Scenery put her hoof on Jerry's shoulder. "We can make this work." Scenery was then rolled into another room, a nurse took Cammy in the other direction. The doctor gently taped his hoof on Jerry's shoulder and followed the nurses that took Scenery. Jerry held his head down and walked out of the room. Still didn't close it back.
"..Yeah..." Jerry glanced into the room again before slowly walking down the hallway. "...its the drugs..."
~Four years later~
Jerry wasn't having the best time. Sure there were other worse situations but this one was very close. Jerry wasn't stressed, he was just starting to be stretched too thin. Cammy was now four years old. He just learned how to walk and talk a two years ago. At the time, Jerry couldn't be more proud. But now he wonders if Celestia gave him a blessing or a curse.
"Now, Cammy, I told you not to play with your food." He said as he walked into the kitchen to see Cammy on his high chair, his face covered in applesauce. The small unicorn gave of a smile and a giggle to his father.
"But...I...um..uhh..oh, daddy! You have too help me. My hooves don't work right and I can't use uhh...this." The small unicorn said as he tapped his small hoof onto his horn. Which was almost completely covered by his cloud-like mane, so it was hard to see. But the colt was right. Jerry knew of the colts inability to preform magic ever since he came back from the hospital. The doctor said it was because Scenery was in the direct vicinity of somepony smoking....or...was it Scenery who was smoking? It didn't matter really, because almost a year ago, Jerry saw something that can only be explained by magic itself. Regardless on the lack of sense it makes.
~flashback one year ago~
Jerry was woken up by a sudden cry from his colt. He rolled out of his apartment bed and stretched. When he glanced over to the bed again he realized that he was the only one in the bed. "Tch, typical, another mid-night call." Jerry made his way out of the bedroom, through the small hallway and to the room of his screaming colt. He opend the door and smiled as he quietly trotted to his bedside and picked him up in his fore hoof. "Come on buddy, that's the second time tonight. Whats'up?"
"Daddy, I had a dream that you and mommy were screaming. And then mommy was gone and you were all alone." There were tears rolling down his small eyes as he jumped up to hug his father tightly. "I didn't want her to go so I screamed...c-can I please sleep with you guys tonight?" He pleaded to his father. Jerry was silent, he had absolutely no idea what to say but he had to think of something. Then an idea hit him an he removed Cammy from his neck and gently placed him back in his bed.
"Now buddy, you know you won't grow up fast if you keep sleeping with your mom and dad. And you know how cramped it gets when there is more than two ponies on the bed. You know that."
"Oh, I can make myself smaller! Watch!" Cammy scrunched his body together in an attempt to make himself look smaller, but only ended up making himself sneeze. Jerry chuckled as he ran his hoof in Cammy's cloud-like mane.
"No buddy its not that. But nice try though. Listen hear is what I want you to do. I want you to close your eyes and picture yourself in a field with sheep. Now there is going to be a lot of sheep and I want you to count them."
"Aww, that sounds like work, though.."
"You need work to get by....and no more visits from uncles Jack and Cleaver. Your starting to get an accent. Now, I want you to count some sheep, okay?
"..Okay."
"Alright then." Jerry kissed Cammy's fore head and quietly left the room and closed the door. Cammy sighed and stared up to the ceiling. "Count sheep, huh.." Cammy closed his eyes and rolled to his side. In his head he imagined a field of grass with sheep on it and without hesitation he began to count. He started off rather quickly and slowed down after a short moment. "One, two, three...four....five.......six." Cammy was now in a deep slumber as his fathers trick worked. That was until...something started to happen. Cammy's horn began to create white smoke. The smoke slowly expanded until Cammy's entire bed was covered by it. Then the smoke moved to the floor and up the walls and to the ceiling. The smoke soon covered his room in a dense fog. If one was standing in the middle of the room, they wouldn't be able to see three feet ahead of them. A few seconds later the fog began to clear. But instead of his room being revealed, instead there was no room at all. The floor was replaced by a thick field of grass and a fence in front of Cammy's bed. The ceiling and walls were gone. The only thing that was left of his room was his door and his bed. Beyond that was a seemingly endless field of grass under a starry night sky. Then it started to get even more weird. Sheep, cows and all other kinds of barn animals...including an actual barn, appeared in a puff of smoke and floated in mid air. The air itself was now visible as blue currents. All of the animals were making noises and Cammy was seemingly unaffected by it.
Jerry was finally enjoying his peace and silence until he was woken up by another noise that came from Cammy's room. But the odd thing was, he was certain it wasn't Cammy but a....cow? Preparing for the worst, Jerry grabbed a baseball bat from the side of his bed and quietly but quickly made his way to Cammy's room. When he quickly opend the door, his jaw dropped and the bat fell out on the...grassy field. Jerry scratched his head in complete confusion. "Uhh, Cammy? W-what's going on?" He asked as he saw his colt on the bed snoring soundly. He ran his way over to him, jumping over the fence and began to shake Cammy. "Cammy! Cammy, buddy, wake up!" The colt began to roll to his back and yawned. The grassy field slowly becoming smoke and made its way up the bed and back into Cammy's horn. It was as if Cammy's horn was a tornado as the smoke spiraled back into his horn and his room was coming back into vision. Cammy slowly opend his eyes and stared up to his dad.
"Daddy? What's wrong? I was sleeping." He groaned out as he yawned again. Jerry was completely speechless from the event and breathless from the wind. What just happened? Jerry couldn't find anything to possibly explain what he saw.
"Uhh..you...I-I was just checking up on you. You know, I didn't really hear anything and I got worried. I didn't know you were actually sleeping. Won't happen again okay."
"Okay, that's fine." he sheepishly replied as he rolled over to his side. "Goodnight."
"Uh, yeah, goodnight buddy." Jerry gently kissed Cammy's fore head and bean to walk out of the room and gently closed the door. His completely confused expression replaced with a brightened smile. "That really is an extraordinary unicorn."
