Awakening

I looked up at the deep blue sky, the stars blinking there memorised me in a way they never had before. The forests smells filled my nose and I breathed deep and hard burning my nostrils with the cool damp air. As I stared at the trees around me I laughed long and hard, realizing that this was what it meant to be free. I turned and took a good hard look at the trees behind me but could not see how I had gotten there. Getting up I started running faster and faster, zooming over the hills and zig zagging between the trees. Vines and branches whipped me in the face randomly but it made no difference because I was free. All of a sudden is stopped….I was free….but free from what? What had led me to take off like that, to laugh so hard and love the smell of the forest? This couldn’t be normal. I looked down at my body and could swear that the hair was longer than usual. I blinked and rubbed my eyes but there was no longer hair there when I looked back. I slowly started my way back to where it started but soon found myself lost. ‘What the heck’ I yelled angrily ‘where the fuck am I!’I screamed at the trees. What the heck was going on! I started breathing hard, my vision becoming red. And when I looked at my body I could see the longer hair there again. My cutie mark was gone, hidden under my new shag fur, my hooves were elongating and as I looked at them they grew two sharp points on the ends. My mouth and nose elongated and as I looked down at my new body I tried to scream but instead it came out as a howl. I howled long and hard before letting it go then I ran. Trying to escape even as the monster inside came to the light. It was like looking through someone else’s eyes, like someone had taken the game controller out of my hands and was using it to control my character. My ears twitched as they heard a branch snap and as I turned to look in the direction the noise had come from I caught sight of something galloping through the trees. Taking off after it I quickly caught up and attacked. I felt the blood wet my throat, its sweet salty flavor feeding my bloodlust and as I stared at my kill I knew that this is no dream. This was real. I was a Wolfen.

That was the first time I had changed. It had happened right after my sixteenth birthday. The memories of before the change are all mangled and I am slowly forgetting everything. I would always try to head to the woods when I was changing but the first couple times I didn’t make it. I can’t say what happens when I don’t make it because my memories of that change evaporate before I can catch them. All I know is waking up with the blood on your hands, and knowing that it’s not an animals; it really does something to you. I wasn’t a pony anymore and I didn’t belong in their world so I finally said goodbye to my home, my family and my friends, at least to the ones I remembered.
