Settle the Score

The doorbell wrung early in the morning, waking Shinning Armor from his sleep. Seeing his wife was still asleep, he rolled out of bed walking towards the door. Quickly pulling his mane into order, Shinning Armor opened up the door. He saw nothing but a small basket on the door mat. Picking up the basket, Shinning Armor walked inside and set it down on the counter. He pulled out a small bundle of cloth and a note. The note read: "Enjoy explaining this to Miss Cadenza. -Chrysalis and the Changelings".

"What the hay?" Shinning Armor questioned, flipping the note around a few times.

Finding nothing else written, Shinning Armor pulled down the top of the cloth, exposing the head of a white unicorn foal. The only odd thing about this foal was it had holes in its coat, something only a changeling had. Staring in awe at the young colt, Shinning Armor heard a hoof steps coming from the bedroom. He anxiously looked for a place to hide the foal from his wife. Realizing he didn't have enough time, Shinning Armor stood up in front of the foal, blocking it from Cadence's view. The door from the bedroom swung open just at the time Shinning Armor jumped in front of the small colt.

"What's going on?" Cadence asked with a small yawn, noticing her husband was acting a bit odd already.

"Nothing's wrong!" Shinning Armor shot back, only proceeding to make things worse.

"Who was at the door?" Cadence questioned, slightly concerned.

"Nopony," Shinning Armor confirmed, shaking his head.

"And what's behind your back?" Cadence asked, using her magic to her husband away from the counter.

Seeing the small bundle on the counter, Cadence walked over to it, inspecting the colt. As soon as she saw the holes in its coat her face turned bright red. Cadence whipped around, facing Shinning Armor. She quickly gathered her thoughts before beginning to talk.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Cadence questioned, her voice firm, but not angry.

"I was hoping you would never find out. I hoped Chrysalis would just keep the foal. I'm really sorry Honey," Shinning Armor admitted reluctantly, looking down at his hooves.

"Don't be sorry. She fooled everyone. It wasn't your fault," Cadence appeased, picking up the colt.

"Your not mad?" Shinning Armor asked, testing the waters.

"No I'm not mad, but I do want you to even the score between Chrysalis and I," Cadence whispered, picking up the foal. "He seems to be only a few days old," she noted.

"Even the score?" Shinning Armor questioned.

"You seemed to have played with her quite a bit. I think it's time you fooled around with me," Cadence said with a shake of her hips, levitating the foal over to the nursery.

They had added a nursery in their castle, knowing they planned on having children one day. Setting the colt down in a crib, Cadence pulled a blue blanket over his body. She turned her head to the side, hearing her husband enter the room. She stroked the colts messy mane, threading a few strands back into place. He quickly drifted off to sleep, feeling safe and protected.
