Doctor Whooves 50th anniversary: The Quest of the Doctor

The peacefulness and stillness of the planet of the Eye of Orion was just beautiful. It was a still, quiet place, covered in ruins, grass and mist and there was hardly a sound except a wheezing, groaning noise that grew in volume. This was accompanied by a soft blue glow, which gave way to a familiar blue box with the words “Police Public Call Box” marked on the top. The doors opened inwards and a brown coated stallion wearing a red tie stepped out.

He was the Doctor.

“Well, ladies” he said with a flourish “welcome to the Eye of Orion!”

The brown stallion stepped aside, allowing more ponies to step out.

The first was a light purple unicorn with a dark sapphire blue mane and tail, streaked with violet and pink, her name was Twilight Sparkle. She was followed by two Pegasus ponies: the first one was butter yellow with a pink drooping mane and tail, her name was Fluttershy, the other was bright blue with a rainbow coloured mane and tail and wearing dark-tinted sun shades and her name was Rainbow Dash. They were followed by another unicorn, this one coloured white with a well-curled violet mane and tail and she was wearing an elegant sun hat and her name was Rarity.

They were followed by two Earth Ponies. The first one was coloured orange with a blonde mane and tail tied back and a cowboy hat on her head, her name was Applejack.

The other earth pony was coloured bright bubblegum pink with a frizzy magenta mane and tail and her name was Pinkie Pie.

The first to speak was Twilight Sparkle, the dark sapphire blue pony.

“It’s so peaceful and beautiful here” she said, turning to the Doctor and taking in her surroundings.

“For some the Eye of Orion is the most tranquil place in the universe” the Doctor replied with a faraway look in his eyes.

“I came here when I was 813 years old, I was a different pony back then”

“It’s marvellous here, I feel so calm and relaxed darling” Rarity said, settling down under a nearby tree, admiring the beautiful scene before her.                                                                                                          “It’s the high bombardment of positive ions” the Doctor replied.

“It’s like Equestria after a thunder storm” Fluttershy whispered.

“Same cause and reason” the Doctor said, smiling at Fluttershy.

“Can’t we stay here?” Rainbow Dash asked innocently.

The Doctor turned to Rainbow Dash, his smile widened “why not? We could all do with a rest for a while”.                                                                                                                                                                                 “That sounds like party!” Pinkie Pie said eagerly in her high-pitched and bubbly voice.

“Here, here partner” Applejack said in her heavy southern twang, pulling her hat down over her eyes, “I need a holiday from all the hard work I’ve been doing in ponyville”.                                                                                                                   Just as Applejack finished her sentence she, the Doctor and the rest, heard the same wheezing, groaning noise that the TARDIS had made when they had landed and another blue police box, almost identical to the Doctor’s, appeared.

“Doctor you’re not fooling around with the TARDIS are you?” asked Twilight,

“No, I didn’t do anything” the Doctor said, hurt at Twilight’s comment.

Then the Doctor looked like he had just remembered something:

“Oh of course, this is where I come in” he said.

Twilight looked confused “what do you mean ‘where you come in’?”

As Twilight finished what she was saying the doors of the other police box opened and a beige coloured stallion stepped out. He was wearing a 1980s cricket jacket and hat. The only thing that looked out of place on his clothes was the stick of celery stuck to his jacket collar.                                                                                                  He was followed by a female earth pony and a male unicorn. The earth pony had a light brown coat and scarlet mane and tail, she was wearing a purple top with a fur coat over it.                                         The male unicorn had a sky blue coat with a ginger mane and tail, he was wearing a dark blue suit with a dark purple tie.                                                                                                                                            It was then that the newcomers noticed the Doctor, Twilight and her friends.                                              “Hey Doc” the earth pony said “you said that there was no life on the Eye of Orion”.                                  “There isn’t” the pony in the cricket jacket and hat said, a look of confusion on his face.                                                                                     Twilight’s Doctor stepped up to the newcomer and embraced him.                                                                “You know, I’ve often wished I was you again” he said, like the newcomer was his relative.                                                                                    “Steady on old boy” the newcomer said when the Doctor let go of him, “and do you mind....” he continued “telling me who you are?”.                                                                                                                “Well I’m, well you” the Doctor explained.                                                                                                                           The newcomer looked sceptical, “like Alice I try to believe three important things before breakfast” he said                                                                                                                                                                                    “I’m really you” Twilight’s Doctor said, trying to convince the newcomer.                                                        The newcomer looked the Doctor over, “do I really turn out like that?” he said,                                                                                                  “Yep” the Doctor said.                                                                                                                                              From behind him Twilight cleared her throat “are you going to introduce me and my friends to these ponies?” she asked.                                                                                                                                                      “Oh of course. Twilight let me introduce you and your friends to me” the Doctor said.                                                                                                                                                                           Twilight looked confused “what do you mean ‘you’?” she asked                                                                      “well you see miss….” the other Doctor stopped short,                                                                                                                                           “Twilight sparkle” Twilight said.                                                                                                                              “Well you see Twilight, I am his past self” the other Doctor said pointing at Twilight’s Doctor.                        “You’re his past?” Twilight said trying to get her head round what the other Doctor had said.                                       “So he is you, before you met me and my friends?” she said finally.                                                           “That’s right” both Doctors said at the same time.                                                                                                                                                          “Who are these ponies you’re with?” Twilight asked the other Doctor.                                                               “Oh I’m Tegan Jovanka and that’s Vislor Turlough” the scarlet earth pony said, gesturing to the male unicorn. She spoke with an Australian accent.                                                                                                       They both held out their hooves, Twilight shook them.                                                                                   “It’s nice to meet you both. I’m Twilight Sparkle, and that’s Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, Pinkie Pie and Rarity” she said, introducing Tegan and Turlough to her friends.                                 “Nice to meet you and your friends Twilight” Tegan said.                                                                                       “I love that dashing suit of yours, Mr. Vislor” Rarity said, admiring Turlough’s suit.                                                                                                                     “Just call me Turlough. Miss Rarity was it?” Turlough said,                                                                                “That’s right, you can call me Rarity if you want darling” Rarity said flattered by Turlough calling her Miss.
