Our Little Dystopia: Life in Unity

Once upon a time, there were two completely independent worlds. Worlds known as Earth and Equestria.

Earth was the home of the humans. Masters of invention, industry, and war. They were the very pinnacle of great civilization. Capable of achieving creating anything should they set their minds and determination to it. Just as capable of defending themselves from any threat. From sticks and stone, they could make and break anything thing they desired, even gods themselves.

Equestria, home of the ponies, griffons, dragons and many others. Masters of magic, peace, and harmony. They were the very pinnacle of harmonious civilization. Capable of cooperating within their society to achieve almost anything. Just as capable of settling disputes without the need of violence. With their magic and friendship, they could achieve of almost any feat.

With no enemy to threaten them, these two worlds with their civilizations lived in peace.

However, on one fateful day, something... extraordinary and devastating happened. Something that would bring about a dark era to both world alike.

Seven massive portals opened. Connecting seven different parts of the two worlds to one another permanently. No one nor nopony knows where the portals came from, what made them, or why they appeared. However, it was these seven portals that were going change life for the two civilizations forever.

Shortly after the portals were opened, first contact between the two civilizations was made. Although interactions were peaceful at first, tensions grew as the human's imperialistic and the Equestrian's harmonic ideals continuously clashed with one another.

The humans became untrusting of their new neighbors. Time and time again the Equestrians refused to form pacts or alliances to insure peace as their subjects continued to intrude on the human territory. The humans felt threatened by this, and through their natural instinct, they prepared for the worst. Preparing to begin a war with what they assumed would be their worst enemy yet.

The Equestrians became nervous of the human's aggressive and violent behavior. The humans were highly regarded by the Equestrians as a "plainly uncooperative, paranoid, and unreasonable species" as they threatened them and refuse to work with them without signed pacts or alliances. The humans were the first civilization they couldn't talk down for resolution. This made the Equestrians feel, for the very first time in at long time, fear and worry.

Unsurprisingly, their once peaceful interactions soon turned to violence as humans began arresting citizens of Equestria that intruded on their land. They were trying to make themselves clear that, unless treaties were signed, Equestrians were unwelcome on earth.

Feeling threatened, Equestrians began to do the same. Taking human citizens within and near Equestrian borders hostage themselves; they saw where this was going. All they could do was hope that, with the earth's own citizen's lives at stake, they wouldn't try anything rash.

As time when on, however, that small hope was proven all for naught.

The war was becoming inedible as the situation grew worse. Humans continued to take Equestrian citizens prisoners and launch black op missions against Equestria, while Equestrians continued to take hostages and launch black op missions of their own.

The tension between the human and Equestrian relations were destined to explode and cause one or the other to do something rash.

Eventually... the Equestrians did. The final straw was the Equestrian's shocking assassination of Earth's Prime Minister. Earth's leader was murdered in his sleep by an unidentified group of equestrians within his own home. The outraged humans immediately respond by an attempted assassination of Equestria's princesses (which failed), and execution of all prisoners they held captive as an act of retribution, including nearly 500 innocent ponies and griffon citizens. The Equestrians responding in kind, killing all humans unlucky enough to be trapped within Equestrian borders.

At that point, both worlds cried for war. A war that was to nearly destroy them all.

It was a total disaster when it finally ended 30 years later. The cost of the war included three fourths of the human population, one half of the pony population, the near extinction of all other sentient races in Equestria, and the obliteration of almost every city on both Earth and Equestria.

There was hardly a human or pony left that was civilian. Nearly all were recruited for the war effort. The other sentient races of Equestria had fought themselves to near extinction. Once great cities were burned and nuked into oblivion. The two once great civilizations fought each other until there was barely ashes left.

The war only finally came to an end as both sides realized that no one was going win. Both were of equal power, and this was only to end with assured destruction on both sides. At that point, the last surviving members of earth government and the Princesses of Equestria brought an end to the conflict, unfortunately, it was a peace that was made far too late.

The two worlds, as they knew them, were destroyed. Covered with nothing but ash, flame, toxins, and radiation brought upon by both human and equestrian weapons of mass destruction. So much knowledge and technology lost and forgotten forever, too many lives sacrificed over a pointless war, hardly anything left to rebuild...

However, out of this darkness, there was still one thing left to be destroyed... Hope.

With nowhere else to go, the few that survived the war decided to band together and built a city near one of the seven portals. A city they build in hope that they, ponies, humans, and whoever was left, could live together in peace and grow back into a great civilization like they once were. This city was to become forever known as Unity City, a place where all can live together in peace.

It was a romantic and inspiring notion indeed, but it was not entirely to be so. There was still much prejudice and hatred between it's human and equestrian citizens, even ten years after the war.

Crime and violence of all kinds were a common occurrence in Unity City throughout its years, ranging from hate crimes between species, gang violence, kidnapping, foal napping, prostitution, involuntary interspecies prostitution, fight clubs, "manslaughter", "ponyslaughter", and "occasionally" murder.

The newly placed government, consisting of the princesses and earth government officials, try its best to maintain order and control, but the city is getting worse and worse by the day. It is a possibility that the grudge between humans and equestrians will eventually tear the hope and dream that was Unity apart, and there is not much anyone could do to stop it.

That is, unless, there was some pony and some human who were willing and determined to make the dream, that was Unity, real again. One human and one pony that could prove to all that now all was lost and peace could still be made. Prove that humanity and Equestrians could live together in peace and harmony, unlike the example set by their ancestors before...
