Cheerilee's Scales
Chapter One:
Defeated & Saved
The day before had just been the worst day in Spikes young life, but also the most relieving day he had ever had also. Yesterday the drake had finally confessed his feelings for Rarity. He woke up early, got dressed in his nice tux, and made his way to her home. The fashion mare was surprised to see Spike at her door dressed in a tux and holding flowers, but she invited him inside and that's when it got bad for our dragon.
Only a moment later he did it. Spike Sparkle confessed his feelings to Rarity! He was so releved to have finally gotten that off his chest, but the look on her face turned his relief into regret. Rarity had tears of sorrow falling down her cheek. She was barely able to speak, but when she did she told him everything.
“I'm so sorry S-Spikey, but I don't feel the same way about you” she choked out. “your funny, charming , and a wonderful friend, but I could never see you in that kind of way Spike. Also you're way to young Spikey. I think of you as a little brother and as a best friend who I can tell anything to. But not as a lover... I'm so sorry”.
After that Spike too cried, but soon stopped and hugged Rarity. She was surprised by the show of affection, but then returned the hug. Spike told her that he understood completely, and that he was just so happy to had finally gotten that off his chest. So now he could move on with his life, but that didn't mean that he wasn't going to feel saddened and depressed.
The next morning he had woken up early and left the library before Twilight could even wake up. He didn't tell his sister about the incident with Rarity because he didn't want her to worry. He swore that she could be worse than his mother Celesta when he felt down in the dumps.
So that's where our story starts. With Spike walking through Ponyville with his head down in deep thought and sadness.
'Well... what now? I've spent half of my life drooling over Rarity, now I don't know what else to do. Do I just hang out with my friends, find a hobby, or find a new mare? I just don't-'
*Blam!*
Spike and Cheerilee fell onto there butts. Spike rubbed his head in pain.
“Ah! That smarts. Hey look friend I'm sorry for running into- Cheerilee? Oh my gosh are you OK!?” said Spike, surprised to have ran into Cheerilee- of all ponies- for the second time in his life.
Cheerilee's eyes rolled around in her head. Then she shook off her dazed state and looked at the drake. Seeing his expression she calmed his worry’s with a smile.
“Oh hello Spike, and yes I'm fine. There was probably some fault on my side also. I should have watching where I was going” said Cheerilee. Spike helped the mare on her hoofs.
“Well I'm just glad that your okay” said Spike, relived.
“Um... Spike?” said Cheerilee, blushing. The drake was confused at why that was, until he looked down and noticed that he was still holding her hoof. Quickly Spike pulled away.
“I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to I-” he was silenced with a hoof to the lips. Cheerilee giggled.
“Its fine Spike. In fact, I can't remember the last time somepony held my hoof” said Cheerilee, with a
sad sigh.
“Well I don't understand why. Your very beautiful Cheerilee, and adorable too” said Spike, with such confidence that he was even shocked.
“W-well t-thank you Spike” said Cheerilee. She crossed her front hoofs together in an adorable fashion, blushing.
Silence took them both, until Cheerilee cleared her throat.
“So Spike, I couldn't help but notice that you seemed a little down. Whats wrong?”.
Spike transferred his gaze to the mare. From where Spike stood, the sun was behind her head. Making the mare look like a goddess from Greek legends. Spike blushed, but also smiled. He could tell her about yesterday, she was an old friend after all. But the dragons smiled quickly vanished.
“Well yesterday I finally confessed my feelings to Rarity”.
“Oh! That's wonderful Spike! Everypony in town knows how much you like her, but I don't understand why your so sad?”said Cheerilee, with just a hint of jealousy in her voice.
“That's the thing Cheerilee. Rarity... she... rejected me” tears started to fall down his cheek. Cheerilee quickly went into teacher mode. She pulled the little dragon into a hug. “Go ahead Spike. Let it all out” Spike did as he was told and he didn't hold back. For about three minutes Spike poured his hurting emotions onto Cheerilee, and she happily returned that with a hug.
Spike claimed down soon. The dragon pulled away and smiled.
“Thanks Cheerilee...” Spike thought for a moment. “you're a wonderful friend” Cheerilee smiled.
“Your very welcome Spike, and your a great friend also” Cheerilee thought for a moment. “Um.. Spike. I was actually heading to the Ponyville Carnival when I bumped into you. Would you like to join me? It could be funnnnn” she giggled, poking the dragon with a hoof.
Spike laughed at her cuteness. His spirits were already feeling lifted.
“Sure! I bet they got cotton candy!” Spike grabbed her hoof and pulled them both. “I didn't even know the Carnival was in town. This going to so much fun!”.
Cheerilee giggled and let the drake walk her to the Carnival. She stopped gigging and blushed.
'Gosh, I can't remember the last time I was on a date with- Wait! Hold your cows Cheerilee. Spikes only seventeen. It would be wrong to call this a date... but still, a mare can dream'.
And with that Spike and Cheerilee walked to the Carnival together.
