//-------------------------------------------------------// From nothing to something. Part 1 -by Szalhi- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// prologue //-------------------------------------------------------// prologue The cold and harsh weather overtook the orphanage. An orphanage isn't the most pleasant place to be, but it's still better than lying on the streets. Being in an orphanage usually means you either love kids OR you're the kid that's not loved. The orphanage is the place that means you have no parents, whether you knew them or not, it means they're gone. Some people say the orphanage is the place that tells you that you're not going to die. Some people say it means you're going to die. Nevertheless, it's still an orphanage. An orphanage that will host you for your early years. Inside the orphanage, Ms Heartsworth was busy tucking all the foals into bed. Well all the foals that would want to be tucked into bed. (do you want to be tucked into bed, do you?. Nevermind.) Ms. Heartsworth loved her job so much, she wouldn't leave it ever. She would never think of retiring unless it's against her health. The fact that she couldn't have children of her own is the reason she even took this job. The fact that she is practically giving all these foals a home is enough to make her life worth while. But she never expected what was coming up. A tragedy that she was going to be a part of. Officer Storm was walking through the gates of the orphanage. Was this the right thing to do? He thought to himself. Not everypony is worth being in an orphanage and this one certainly was not to him. It's not like i have the power to look after her. Storm knocked on the door to the orphanage and was met by Ms. Heartsworth, a pink unicorn with a green mane. "What do you want... oh it's you officer Storm, what brings you here?" Storm cleared his throat in preparation for what was to come. He didn't want to spill with Ms. Heartsworth the terrible news that was about to come, She has a very sensitive heart witnessing ponies enter and leave the orphanage, but nevertheless, it has to be done. "Ma'am, i have another unfortunate foal for your fine orphanage." "Would you like a cup of... Did you say another foal?" "Yes ma'am, there was a fire back in town so i won't be able to stay for long. " "A fire? Please tell me know pony was hurt?" "Sadly yes. 10 ponies died. 2 of which were this filly's parents. It's a big tragedy" Storm pointed to the conviently looking basket which was right next to him. Ms. Heartsworth picked up the basket with tears beginning to stream down her eyes and looked into it revealing a white unicorn with a vivid mane. "Another beautiful foal for our orphanage. I don't know why these events have to keep happening." The filly turned to face her waking up and blinking her eyes which were of a dark magenta with no visible pupil. "Her eyes..." "We took her to the hospital before we came here. She was diagnosed as blind. They didn't know how, but they said she was probably blind from birth. A birth defect."  replied Storm with a lower tone in his voice. A blind filly orphan coming to me... her life is going to be hard. How will she live around the others? thought ms. Heartsworth bringing the Filly inside the loomy orphanage. Out of all the ponies for it to happen to, it had to be you. Luck already played bad on you once. It didn't have to do it twice. "Well i guess i'd get going than. They will need me back at the scene for help, i'm sorry for what you have to see" said Storm starting to walk out of the orphanage. "Thank you for bringing her to me. I don't know what would've happened if she was out on the streets." Ms. heartsworth's eyes were now completely filled with tears. This happened every time a foal was brought here, but today it felt different. Sure there were a couple of physically handicapped foals in the orphanage, but a filly that would be blind for the rest of her life. That felt different to her. "It's my job as an officer to do this stuff." "You brought several ponies to me. But none as disadvantaged as this one..." "It's just a shame she will never know what you ever looked like when she's older. That's a fact she will have to accept." Officer Storm walked out of the Orphanage gate closing it behind him with a pain in his heart. Storm witnesses lots of foals losing their parents and it strickened him that it has to be him to witness it. "Another foal needing me in their life. All the bad things had to happen to you. I doubt anyone's going to adopt you. You're stuck with me until you're old enough to live on your own. But if it were up to me, i'd keep you for as long as it takes." She walked up the stairs to the second floor carrying the basket with her into a long room with 10 empty cribs. She set the Filly down in the first crib on her left setting the basket beside it before noticing a note in it. This Filly's' name is Vinyl Scratch "Vinyl scratch... what an odd name in my opinion. I guess that's your name for the rest of your life. It would be wrong to change it now." she said leaving the room. I don't own my little pony: Friendship is Magic by Hasbro. Although i kind of wish i did.
