"... AND ANOTHER THING IF YOU DON'T FINISH THESES REPORT'S BY TOMORROW YOU CAN JUST PACK YOUR STUFF!"
His boss walked off shaking his head "Prick." Steve mutter'd as his retreating back then looking at the large pile of file's he had to go through.
"Hay! Steve you good?" Steve spun his chair round to face his cubical's entrance, finding his two neighbors and friend's closest Kathrin and Ted.
Ted was Steve's mentor when he started at the office and the two had hit it off and stayed close. Kathrin was the main I.T Tec on that floor of the building and was always easy to get on with.
"Fine. Just he has no soul." Steve covered his face with his hand's and breathed in through them. "What was he grilling you about?" Ted asked a concerned look on his face. Steve answered his face still covered.
"Mom went into hospital yesterday after-noon so I slipped out early but I made sure I wasn't s ... It was Sam! That bastard grassed me in! I saw him near the exit I use'd!"
The two enter'd Steve's cubical "Forget Sam What's up with your mom?" Kathrin asked kneeling next to Steve they herd a sniff from behind his hand's and Steve moved them his's eye's blood shot. "She had a stork... doesn't remember a thing." Steve rubbed his chin the beard tickling his hand. making him realize he'd let shaving go a bit in the past few week's in the rush of thing's that where going on.
"Dame... sorry man." Ted said putting a hand on Steve's shoulder. "Is... is there anything they can do?" Kathrin asked a sad look in her eye's. Steve slowly shook his head "No..." Kathrin took Steve's hand in her's and held it tightly. "Where her for you." Steve gave a sad smile. "Thank's."
"Well well look at this aren't you two meant to be in your cubical's?" The three looked to find Sam standing there.
He was the typical office rat. Dark greasy hair, dark blue suit, pocket full of pen's, weedy, Over sized glasses, probably sell his mother for a promotion. He was smiling widely like a predator that was going to play with it's pray before killing it.
"What you doing hear Greasy?" Ted asked standing up and folding his arm's, eyeing Sam. "My job aren't you meant to be working?" Ted stepped infrount of Sam he towered over him but Sam's smile widened "Now now Mr. Squire's If we look at section five of the office conduct: Any threatening behavior will result in disciplinary action."
"I haven't even started." Ted said. Steve smiled he knew Ted was ex-paratrooper so there was punch to that line. But Ted back down , pushed past Sam then headed back to his cubical. He needed a job in the end of the day. Kathrin stood and left with a sad look at Steve.
"How's your mommy?" Sam asked and Steve's face hardened. "Non of your fucking business Sam!" Sam moved past the cubical's entrance. "Now now is that any way to talk to a co worker." Steve looked him dead in the eye's "Out.." Sam picked up the small photo that Steve's had of mother. "Wow shes a looker." Steve stood up the chair rolling back and slamming into the desk.
"What did you say!?" Steve whispered each syllable drooling with anger. A hand grabbed Sam's shoulder."Get out of man's office. Now!" The hand was connected to Nikolai the muscle security guard that wandered round the building when he was't on the front desk. Sam held the photo up next to Steve's face "What was you farther a pig?" Steve's fist slammed into Sam's chin sending him head over heel's through the air and into the wall of the opposite cubical.
"O der'mo syn! You got knock'd out!" Nikolai said prodding the unconscious Sam with his foot. Ted looked over the wall smiling "Nicely done. My old Caption would be impressed."
A few hour's later Steve was leaving the police station with Nikolai, Ted and Kathrin.
Steve turned to Nikolai "Thank's man you saved me in there!" Nikolai smiled widely and warmly "No no. I owe Steve little man wouldn't let me read my book when I was on night shift. Plus it was entertaining!"
Kathrin spoke up "Your lucky there not charging you with assault!" Ted smiled "He was inciting him that's a crime in it's self." "What is that?" Kathrin asked "He was deliberately winding him up to make him do something." Ted responded.
Steve felt his old mobile vibrate in his right trouser pocket. Pulling it out he open'd it up, accidentally put it on speaker phone.
"STEVE! THIS ADAM YOUR FIRED!!! YOU HEAR ME FIRED!!!" the group looked at Steve. Ted broke the silence first "Steve..."
Steve was in his apartment's living room he was laying on the couch he'd shed his suit for in a pair of loose fitting jean's, old trainer's and a light blue t-shirt he was staring up at the ceiling. His mobile vibrated on the coffy table in front of him for what must of been the tenth time in five minutes but he ignored it.
He was tired but he didn't want to sleep he felt like he didn't deserve it.
He needed that job so badly his mother was all he had left. Without the work he had lost the distraction he needed. His mind drifted back to what the doctor had said.
"We have stabilized her thanks your fast reaction but... it was bad ... she has lost her memory and... she may have a few week's, mouth top's...I'm.... sorry sir.... I know what it's like to lose some on like this."
Steve closed his eye's tears streaming down his face and into the fabric of the couch. "Why... I... I wish I was some where else..." a few minute's later a soft snoring filled the apartment.
Steve rolled over something cool touched his face.
Steve woke with a start and stood up. He was in a thin forest the sun was starting to rise in the east. "W..what...where?" Steve try'd to get his still sleepy brain to work. There was a tree near by and Steve moved over and sat under it. "This cant be real" Steve thought. There was a rock next to him he picked it up
A few minute's later Steve came to a conclusion. This was some stupid practical joke and sooner or later who ever did this will come and collect him.
Steve stood up and looked round the wood's. When he was collected he'd he to fined out where he was as theses wood's where quite pretty.
Steve looked up at the sun. Dragging the distant memory's of when he was in the scout's Steve jugged the time to be about ten.
Steve decided to take a walk he took note of what was around the tree and the hill on his left walked of in roughly the north. Twenty minute's later Steve was back at the tree.
Steve was pretending to fight the tree. Steve misjudged the power he put into the right swing he closed his eye's in anticipation of possibly shatter'd knuckle's. His fist hit the tree and stoped dead...It didn't hurt?!
Steve opened his eye's and looked at his fist. There was no blood no bones sticking out. Steve looked at the tree is seemed like it was damaged.
"What's going on here?" Steve looked down looked at his fist and... agents his better judgment... punched the tree with all his might. The wood gave way and Steve jumped out the way as it came down.
Steve stared at the now felled tree then his hand's then back to the tree. "What the actual fuck?"
----- Three week's later -----
The cloak'd finger ran weaving through the tree's. The low sun shining off the dull metal and highlighting the leather part's of the armorer. The figure slowed then eventually stoped the cool air of the evening made his breath cloud. It looked round the forest was still... to still... the arrow slammed into the tree next to it's head splinter's rattling off the helmet. The finger ran on heading running in the direction it knew safety was but it was off the path it had traveled hundred's of times.
As it left the forest it skidded to a halt. A few lumps of dirt bounced over the edge of the cliff. The figure turned to the forest drawing a short sword from it's scabbard. The trees sat there menacing but it was what was behind them that was the threat. The figure's blue eye's scanned the tree line.
It's free hand wandered to the back pack it had on. Pulling a lump of coal out it threw over the edge. It held'd it's breath. Then in the distance the sound of something falling into water. That was the trigger. The spider's pounced from the tree's, more arrow's flew from the tree's.
The figure pirouetted most of the wave of arrow's missed the closest one came to harming him was one that scraped of his back plate in a shower of sparks. It then turned it attention to the spider's.
One was about to land on him but a quick back handed swing beheaded it in a shower of green blood. The second fell short of him. The sword came down its two front left leg where severed. The third was till mid leap and the figure simply brought the point of the sword up. the spider impaled it's self on the sword, it's face crushed into the hilt by the weight of it's own body.
The body slowly slid from the sword and the figure looked up the skeleton's and zombies.
The figure backed to the edge of the cliff then ... fell.
The house on the edge of the swamp glowed with warm and welcoming light. The fire was well stoked and the two wolves lay infrount of it asleep. The door opened and the figure enter'd with dripping of water on wood. Pulling the helmet and cloak off Steve was reveal but the three week's had left there mark the scar from his from his eye brow to the cheek bone was a gift from a spider on the first night. He knew he was lucky a few millimeter's beeper and it's mandible's would of calmed his left eye.
Steve pulled the armorer and the wet clothe's off. The wolves where still asleep "Nice to know you care." Steve entered the bed room and came back out with dry clothes on.
Steve sat on the couch infrount of the fire as he started to clean his armorer to prevent it from rusting. A few minute's later he got up and headed to the kitchen and half an hour later came out with a chicken salad.
He sat down again only to find the two wolves sat infrount of him eyeing the chicken. "O you get up for that won't you" Steve took two peaces of the chicken "Joe, Yuri. Sit!" The two wolves sat and Steve rewarded them and they walked off to there bed's.
Steve sat there eating and looking at the fire dance in the hearth.
Another shadowy person stood under the tree looking at Steve it's golden eye's shining bright in the night. While it was't easy to tell from the silhouette it was definitely female.
--- A few day's later ---
Steve opened his door only to find a cake on his door step. Steve looked round he could't see anyone He knelt down and picked up the cake. taking it in and closing the door with is foot.
Steve was about to set the cake on the table when there was a rustling and a note fell from the under side of the cake. Seting the cake down on the table Steve picked up the note and read it.
"Hi
My name is Cupa and I'v been watching you for a bit.
Id like to meet you I'll be round soon."
Steve felt his hart jump. He was't alone!
--- 2 hour's later ---
Steve was chopping fire wood round the back of his house where he had built the garden animal paddocks and the stables.
Steve had just placed a log on the chopping black when a voice rang out from behind him.
"Hi!" Steve spun round to find a what he called a creeper. He reacted on instinct and went for his sword. The chopped wood under foot threw his balance off and as he fell he slapped the creeper in the face. Steve tensed ready for the explosion but it never came instead there was sobbing. He looked up to fined the creeper holding it's...her! cheek "W..why did you slap me? I was only trying to be nice!" Steve stood up and slowly approached her.
"I..I'm sorry you gave me a bit of scare and I didn't mean to hit you." The Creeper sniffed a few times "I... If you give me a hug I'll forgive you." She held her arm's out expectantly. Steve moved closer and the put his arm's round her and he felt her arms wrap round his back. Steve prayed so hard as in that moment. put she let go and he was still all together.
"So what's you name?" The creeper asked "Steve my name is Steve. What's your's Miss?" The Creeper looked down a slight blush on her cheek's "Cupa... Cupa the Creeper."
--- 1 Month later ---
Cupa came and went as she pleased over them day's she seemed happy and content and Steve would be lying if he said she was't present company.
Steve was working in the house the bang of the anvil and hammer was all that he could hear out side the wind and rain where heavy.
Steve raised the hammer ready to strike the glowing sword when there was a soft knocking. He was sure he was imagined it then it came again from the door.
Steve opened the door to find Cupa stood there wet through "Cupa com-" Steve saw the bruises "Sit in the sofa. Now." She did so and Steve rushed into his bedroom. He came out with a towel and some of his clothes that where instantly the ones he arrived in. He started to unzip her jumper but realized she did't have anything on underneath "You want to do it?" Cupa nodded and Steve turn'd away. He heard the sound of the zipper and more sound's "O..ok." Steve turned back to Cupa she sat there there in the to large clothes in the fire the extent of what had happened was revealed. There where cut's, bruises covering her body and her right eye was swollen shut and black.
Steve went into the kitchen and came out with warm water and some herb's that he discover'd relieved pain. "Who did this to you?"
Cupa cringed slightly as Steve started to work on cleaning her wound's "T...the other Creeper's... my family... they found out I... was visiting you... they d ... d ... d ... did this S...so I ran hear."
Steve was touched that she thought of running to him first rather than one of her friends she'd told him about "You can stay hear and stay as long as you like I'll look after you no mater how long it take's."
Cupa who was fiddling with her hand's looked up at him when he said that and with out warning kissed him on the lip's.
"I...thank you."
Steve was stunned but he managed to hold up the leaf "Chew on this for a bit Cupa. It will help the pain."
A few minutes later she was a sleep in Steve's bed. Steve on the floor next to her.
--- 3 mouth's later ---
Steve was ridding his horse through the planes Cupa behind him her arm's wrapped round his stomach. "Where about?" Steve asked over his shoulder. Cupa looked round "Over there that cave!"
--- 45 minute's later ---
They looked at the frame hanging mid-are. "What is it?" Steve asked "No idea." Cupa answered.
Steve brushed the dust off what looked like a gem in one of the frame's. "Ender Eye?" Steve took his back pack off and rummaged through. Pulling his diamond armor on Steve took the few Ender eye's he actually had and proceeded to slide them into the holder's.
There was a rushing sound and the portal opened into what looked like a star spangled night. "That's pretty." Cupa said looking into the portal. Steve was walking round
